What is a distributor?

• A distributors job is to physically print copies of the film (or increasingly electronic copies), negotiate with the cinemas to get them to show the film and then to advertise, market and create publicity so that the audience knows about it and hopefully will go and see the film.

• The more money a distributor has the more likely they will have more copies of the film, be in more popular, mainstream cinemas and have more advertising and marketing so an audience is more likely to know about the film.

The film that I researched in my blog was Love Actually. Below are the details of budget and gross margin.

Love Actually –The estimated film budget was $30,000,000 (USA) .The Gross amounted to $59,365,105 (USA).

• For our film distribution, we would need a large budget as the romantic comedy would be popular/mainstream. Our target audience are female teenagers and young adults. Rated 15. The ideal company to distribute this film would be Twentieth Century Fox. This copy can print a lot of copies of the film and spend a lot of money on advertising and marketing to get the film into the major cinemas such as Vue or Odeon.
