2017 PRUDENTIAL U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS WHAT TO WATCH LADIES AND MEN’S SINGLES Form, style, technique, concentration and the ability to perform under pressure are key requirements for ladies and men’s singles skaters. Competed over two days, the athletes perform a short program and a free skate. Both programs showcase the elegance, athleticism and talent synonymous with the sport of figure skating. Come check out the singles competitions if you love the power and beauty of figure skating! PAIRS Pairs skating combines the athleticism of singles skating with the precision of ice dance, mixed with the death- defying acrobatics of overhead lifts, twists and throws. Each movement is performed in unison to demonstrate exact timing between the partners in both the short program and the free skate. If you love a thrill, the pairs events are not to be missed! Event times subject to change. CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND SCHEDULE ICE DANCE If you love “Dancing with the Stars,” this is the event for you! Unlike pairs skating, ice dance is based on aspects of dance including rhythm, interpretation and precision. Its beauty lies in its creativity, choreography and theatrical and innovative aspects. The short dance will feature performances to a required rhythm of blues, swing or hip hop. The free dance will be highlighted by innovative footwork, spins and lifts. SMUCKER’S SKATING SPECTACULAR The Smucker’s Skating Spectacular will take place the evening of Jan. 22 and will close out the competition. Skaters will perform creative programs of their choosing, free from the scrutiny of the judges, with show lights and costumes.
