what to wear and what not to wear
DESCRIPTION
HiTRANSCRIPT
Let’s look at the very beginning. Genesis 3:21 (ESV)
21 And the Lord God made
for Adam and for his wife
garments of skins and
clothed them.
1 Timothy 2:9-10
Likewise also that women should adorn themselves
in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-
control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or
costly attire, but with what is proper for women who
profess godliness—with good works.
1 Peter 3:3
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding
of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the
clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the
hidden person of the heart with the imperishable
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's
sight is very precious.
Definition of good works:
ACTS DESIGNED TO SPECIFICALLY BENEFIT OTHERS AND TO REVEAL THE
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOD (CHIP INGRAM)
1 Timothy 5:9-10
Let a widow be enrolled if she is not less than sixty years of age, having been the wife of one husband, and having a reputation for good works: if she has brought up children, has shown hospitality, has washed the feet of the saints, has cared for the afflicted, and has devoted herself to every good work.
Reasons why good works are important:
God created us to do good
works.
Ephesians 2:8-9-10For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Reasons why good works are important:
People see God’s presence in our
lives.
Matthew 5:16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Reasons why good works are important:
People see God’s presence in our
lives.
Luke 18:19No one is good except God
alone.
Acts 10:38He [Jesus] went about doing
good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil.
Reasons why good works are important:
There is judgment for Christians for
our good works, and God rewards us.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear
before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive
what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR GOOD WORKS
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
