After a positive and successful 2016, this year promises to be just as busy for Appt Corporation.
We currently employ around 2,500 staff and serve more than 18 million meals per year in our 29 McDonald’s restaurants located around West London, North London and Berkshire.
Just 14 years ago, we had one restaurant and now, due to our rapid growth, we have become an integral part of the local communities we serve and take our role extremely seriously. This year, we will celebrate the fourth annual Atul Pathak Community Awards and are keen to find applicants from around the areas in which our restaurants are located. You can find more information about these awards in the community section of our website.
Appt Corporation believes in the value of education and is working alongside the London Education Business Partnership to support students gain real life skills.
We have taken this opportunity to share our love of the hospitality industry and will be visiting various schools to talk to students about the options available to them.
We will also present the range of possibilities offered when working for McDonald’s. As well as offering work experience placements in our restaurants, we will give students the chance to practice their interview skills, providing feedback and encouragement to help boost their confidence. In addition, Appt Corporation has offered the use of our various restaurant facilities to help schools teach courses in food technology and safety.

Helping Ronald McDonaldHouse Charities keep families close to their children in hospital
Amy and her family stayed in a Ronald McDonald House after their son Noah was born prematurely and suffered from health complications.

them to stay connected and maintain a sense of normal family life. Going to a hospital far from home can be a frightening experience for a child so it is important they have their families close by for love and comfort.
Appt Corporation has been supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities since 2006 and has raised
£300,000 in the last five years alone. We also donate a percentage of our sales to the charity and each restaurant has a collection box for customer donations as well as running fundraising initiatives.

The new Ronald McDonald House at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital
At the end of 2016, Ronald McDonald House Charities opened a 59-bedroom House to support the families of children being treated at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, which is part of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Hospital Foundation in central London.
This House replaced the existing Ronald McDonald House which had just 20 bedrooms and was located further away from the new Evelina site.

CreatingOpportunities Ria: from crew member to
business manager
Ria started as a crew member in 2001 working part-time whilst studying at university. After completing her Masters degree, Ria decided to continue her career within Appt Corporation and in 2006 she was promoted to a 2nd Assistant Manager before receiving a further promotion to 1st Assistant Manager. In 2016 Ria became the Business Manager of our Friern Barnet restaurant.
Devang: from crew member to operations consultant
Devang started as a part-time crew member in 2004 and, after expressing a desire to remain with Appt Corporation, he was promoted to Shift Manager in 2006. He joined the salaried manager trainee programme in 2008 and continued working his way up. Devang was promoted to Business Manager in 2010 and in 2017 he was promoted to the position of Operations Consultant. He is now in charge of 6 of our restaurants.
Vania: from crew member to assistant manager
Vania started as a full-time crew member in 2012 having recently completed a degree in marketing. She knew from the start that she wanted a career within Appt Corporation. In 2015, Vania was promoted to Crew Trainer and later promoted to Shift Manager. This year Vania joined the salaried manager trainee programme as a 2nd Assistant Manager and is currently based at Finchley Lido, the same restaurant she joined as a crew member.
Apprenticeships & Training
So far 165 staff members have completed apprenticeships and over 400 have achieved a GCSE equivalent qualification in Maths and English. This gives our staff a sense of achievement and pride which in turn leads to the highest level of customer care.
Local Employees
Our 2,500 employees are our most valuable asset and we make special efforts to provide work for people living in the areas around our restaurants. Through McDonald’s programmes, we offer staff the opportunity to enhance their skills and to engage in nationally recognised qualifications held in Appt Corporation’s own training centre.
Promoting Within
We always seek to promote from within and value our staff. Most of Appt Corporation’s senior management team began as crew members before achieving promotions. This demonstrates our commitment to new employees and highlights the great opportunities we offer.

OnSide Youth Zones in Barnet is part of a new charity which aims to build a network of youth centres fit for the 21st Century, providing young people with a safe and affordable place to visit in their leisure time.
Sufra Food Bank & Kitchen NW London is a community food bank based in the London Borough of Brent. It provides a lifeline for families who might not have enough food or need extra support. It also runs a food academy and advice surgeries.
Community Action on Dementia Brent is a charity which is run by volunteers who support local residents and businesses to create a dementia friendly borough. The aim is to improve the wellbeing of those affected by dementia.
Acton Homeless Concern’s mission is to provide a caring and safe environment for homeless people and those from other disadvantaged groups. It is the Mayor of Ealing’s chosen charity for 2016-17.
Circle Collective was created in 2010 to help unemployed young people learn and develop workplace skills, confidence, a positive mind set and the self-discipline needed to secure life changing permanent employment.
Ealing Street Pastors is a group made up of individuals from churches across the Borough of Ealing. They care deeply about the communities of Ealing, Acton and Southall and the pastors patrol the streets of these areas to listen, help and care.

EnvironmentSince 2003, Appt Corporation has organised an annual deep clean in an area near one of our restaurants.
These areas have experienced issues with litter, graffiti and dirt and our clean up campaign is supported by local police officers, councillors and MPs.
McDonald’s is also the primary sponsor of the Mayor of London’s Capital Cleanup programme. The Appt Corporation always seeks to minimise its impact on the environment and works closely with local councillors and MPs.
In addition to collecting litter, our teams cut grass and clear gardens for older and disabled residents as well as removing graffiti.
Our regular ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign aims to give residents and staff pride in the areas that our restaurants serve.
Appt Corporation cares about the environment and each restaurant undertakes a litter patrol three times a day. During these patrols staff pick up litter within a 100-metre radius of the restaurant. This includes all types of litter as well our own packaging.

Our Restaurants Are Changing Investing in the futureOver the next few years, we will be making large-scale investments in our restaurants to enhance customer experience and satisfaction. Our restaurants will be transformed to provide more choice in how to place and pay for orders and will be refurbished to provide a fresh and contemporary décor.
Kiosk ordering One of the new features in some of our restaurants are touch screen order kiosks. Our Swiss Cottage restaurant was one of the first in London to install these. It was also the first restaurant to offer table service, so once customers have placed their order, they can sit down and relax while their food is prepared and then delivered to their table.
Striving for a sustainable futureMcDonald’s recognises its responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. That is why McDonald’s has a sustainable sourcing policy for food and packaging and aims to use our planet’s resources efficiently.

Business Awards:Since 2003, when we opened our first McDonald’s restaurant in Southall, west London, Appt Corporation has often been acknowledged for its achievements in business and for the work carried out in local communities.
Having grown to 29 restaurants, the local communities we serve remain our priority.
Earlier this year we were awarded Franchise of the Year at the West London Business Awards 2017, and were recognised for the positive influence we have had on both our staff and customers.
Atul Pathak, Managing Director of Appt Corporation, has also been acknowledged for the role he has played in the many achievements made since the opening the first restaurant. He was awarded Leader of
the Decade at the Women Economic Forum 2017, where he gave a speech on the importance of corporate social responsibility in the making of a successful business.
We are hugely proud of these awards as they strengthen our role within the community and encourage us to work even harder for the people we serve.
Prime Minister Theresa May was the guest of honour at the reopening of our Maidenhead High Street restaurant in March 2017. This is the latest restaurant to benefit from investment and now has a fresh and attractive décor as well as exciting digital technology.
While the Prime Minister was at the event we discussed our desire to give back to local communities and charities through projects such as the Atul Pathak Community Awards.
