What’s in a name?
Name Graph Activities for the Beginning of the Year

These “What’s In a Name?” Name Graph Activities are perfect for the beginning of the year. One of my favorite
activities to do at the beginning of the year is a name graph. It’s a quick little activity that allows me to quickly assess which of
my students know how to spell their name, who can write their own name, and who can count.
I like to use this activity with my students after reading the
book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.
There are printable graphs that you can distribute to your students or enlarge on a poster maker and complete with your class. The students can write their names in the spaces on the
graph.
There is also the option to create your own graph. You can use the cut-out pieces to assemble the graph. Then they can color their picture for the graph, write their name, and glue it to the
appropriate spot on the graph. I use a large piece of paper to make the class graph.

students have 7 letters in their name. There are
2 students with 3 and 4 letters in their name.
