What’s New for Education iOS 11, macOS High Sierra 10.13, tvOS 11 iOS 11 empowers teachers and students to access new levels of productivity in the classroom and beyond. There are also updates for Mac, Apple TV management and the Classroom app for iPad. Powerful productivity on iPad With iOS 11, teachers and students can easily manage their files, use multiple apps at the same time, move work wherever they need to, and do even more with Notes. Files app. The new Files app brings all your files together — whether they’re on iPad, in apps or in the cloud. Browse, search and organise your work and sync it to iCloud or third-party cloud providers, including Google Drive and OneDrive. All-new Dock. iOS 11 brings the Dock to iPad so you can easily access apps and quickly move between them. The Dock is always available with a simple swipe up so it’s easy to use. Drag and Drop. Now multitasking is even easier with Drag and Drop on iPad. Move text, images and files from one app to another and work with multiple apps open side by side. Apps like Showbie, TinyTap, Explain Everything, Notability and Edmodo support Drag and Drop, making workflows even easier. Notes. Handwriting is now searchable in Notes, which helps students find what they need. And a built-in Document Scanner automatically scans documents that can be instantly marked up with Apple Pencil, so students and staff can quickly complete forms and assignments. Augmented reality apps iOS 11 brings augmented reality (AR) to apps, so students can experience the world with virtual objects and information in an entirely new way. For example, a student can use iPad to see a dinosaur to scale in their classroom, or walk around a 3D graph that would otherwise be difficult to visualise. The possibilities are endless across subject areas. And for students learning to code, Swift Playgrounds now supports augmented reality. Look for AR-enabled apps this autumn, including GeoGebra, Sky Guide AR and 3D4Medical. * Classroom 2.1 With new features in the Classroom app for iPad, there are even more ways to guide learning and manage devices. Teachers can send and receive documents, mute devices with a single tap and create classes on the go. The brand-new Class Summary shows teachers which apps students used during class, for how long and what content they shared. To get started with Classroom, teachers simply download the app and set up their own classes — no IT setup required. Or admins can use MDM to set up Classroom for everyone all at once. More management features Major management updates for IT admins help scale deployments and streamline ongoing management for institutions of all sizes. Flexible device enrolment. With iOS 11 and tvOS 11, your school can register any iPad or Apple TV into Apple School Manager for automated device enrolment. Regardless of how your school purchased devices — or if they were donated — you can use Apple Configurator 2 to enrol and supervise them in Apple School Manager. Zero-touch Apple TV deployment. tvOS 11 brings new features to help schools manage Apple TV at scale, like the option to remotely set AirPlay security settings. You can also hide/show apps for greater control of what’s showing on the default Home screen. And with the ability to automatically enrol Apple TV in MDM, just plug in power and Ethernet and it’s ready to go — no user input required. Updates for Mac. Admins can now restart, shut down, unlock specific users and set firmware passwords with MDM — particularly helpful during back-to-school setup and end-of-year activities. macOS High Sierra also brings major security and file system updates. And macOS supports Cisco Fastlane for optimising network performance for apps, voice and video on Cisco networks. Content Caching on Mac. Now part of macOS High Sierra, Content Caching is a local caching service that helps optimise your wireless network. This built-in service enables Mac computers to share an Ethernet connection with many iPad devices through USB. What’s New for Education iOS 11, macOS High Sierra 10.13, tvOS 11

iOS 11 empowers teachers and students to access new levels of productivity in the classroom and beyond.
