Live Meeting 2005 introduces innovative functionality that makes online meetings more productive. The result is a powerful solution that improves collaboration between groups of three or even thousands. For more information, see the Live Meeting Feature Comparison.
How many people can attend one meeting? For online meetings, training, and events, Live Meeting is the effective meeting solution that enables you to collaborate with groups of three into the thousands—without leaving your desk. With meeting attendees participating from their PCs, you can kick off a project, brainstorm ideas, edit files, collaborate on whiteboards, and negotiate deals at a fraction of the cost and hassle of being there in person.
14
How many people can be presenters in one meeting?Live Meeting enables multiple presenters to work together in a meeting with one presenter assigned as the Active Presenter. Any presenter can be made the Active Presenter, and presenters can choose to promote other meeting participants to have presenter privileges. Rather than having to pass the baton to another presenter, Live Meeting gives users the convenience of having multiple presenters so that non-active presenters can answer questions or manage participants.
Technology
What are the Live Meeting system requirements? As a hosted Web conferencing service, Live Meeting has no server software to install or deploy. Anyone can participate in a Live Meeting using just a PC, an Internet connection, and a telephone. A Windows-based meeting client is available for users of the Microsoft Windows operating system, and a browser-based meeting client is available for users of the Macintosh and Solaris operating systems. For information about client system requirements, see the Live Meeting System Requirements.
Does Live Meeting work through firewalls?Yes. Live Meeting enables you to communicate and collaborate with remote participants even if they are
joining the online meeting from behind a firewall.
Can you conduct live meetings directly from Microsoft Office programs?Yes. The Live Meeting Add-In Pack enables you to schedule and conduct meetings directly from Microsoft Office programs (such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, and Project) as well as Microsoft Windows Messenger.
How do I deploy Live Meeting across a very large organization? The Live Meeting Intranet Portal enables organizations to easily deploy the Live Meeting service by integrating with Active Directory to authenticate users on the corporate network.
Does Live Meeting have an application programming interface (API)?Yes. Live Meeting has XML-based APIs that enable developers to create programs that integrate with the Live Meeting service. Learn more about Live Meeting APIs.

Microsoft® Terminal Server Licensing Changes and Transition Plan
Licensing Changes for Terminal ServerTerminal Server functionality exists in the Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter editions of Windows Server 2003 software. When a server is configured in the Terminal Server role (known as the Terminal Services Application Server mode in Windows 2000), it becomes a terminal server. Terminal Server is licensed on a Server/CAL basis with Windows Server 2003 being the server. An individual user or device accessing a server running TS software requires a Terminal Server CAL and a Windows Server 2003 CAL.
Windows 2000 Server Terminal Server CALs and Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server CALs were licensed only on a per-device basis (i.e. no per-user licensing). A device accessing these versions of Terminal Server software required a Windows Server CAL plus a Terminal Server CAL of the same version as the Server software (e.g., Windows 2000 Terminal Server CAL to connect to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server). As an exception to that rule, no Terminal Server CAL was needed if the accessing device was running the corresponding version (or any later version) of the Windows Professional Operating System (OS). For example, a device running Windows XP Professional did not require a Terminal Server CAL to access Windows 2000 Terminal Server. This license provision was referred to as deskop OS ‘equivalency’ because a license for the Windows Professional OS was considered ‘equivalent’ to a Terminal Server CAL for purposes of allowing access to the TS software.
With the launch of Windows Server 2003, several changes are being implemented to make Microsoft licensing more consistent, flexible, and reflective of the ways that customers are using the software. The changes to Terminal Server licensing are part of this broader initiative. First, Microsoft has introduced a “User” CAL which permits access to the software by a specific individual, rather than by a device. This allows customers to acquire a single CAL for a user who accesses TS software from multiple devices. Second, Microsoft is introducing External Connector licenses, which allow an unlimited number of ‘External Users’, (e.g., partners or customers), but not employees or similar personnel, to access Terminal Server software without requiring individual Terminal Server CALs for those users. These changes will make Windows Server licensing, and as part of that, TS licensing, more responsive to the needs of many customers.
In addition, desktop OS equivalency for Terminal Server CALs, mentioned above, is being discontinued with the introduction of Windows Server 2003. Desktop OS equivalency is inconsistent with the rest of the Windows Server licensing model, and has been a source of confusion and complexity for customers. At the same time, Terminal Server itself will feature enhanced capabilities, in terms of user experience, manageability, scalability, and security. Thus, all users or devices which access Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server software require both a Windows Server 2003 CAL and a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CAL, regardless of the desktop OS installed on the accessing device.
Summary of Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Licensing Requirements :1) In addition to a Windows Server CAL, all users or devices that connect to a server running Windows Server
2003 Terminal Server require either:a. Windows Server 2003 TS Device CAL- Device CALs are allocated to devices;b. Windows Server 2003 TS User CAL- User CALs are allocated to individual users; orc. In the case of qualified external users, TS External Connector license.
2) The External Connector license may be acquired for an individual server running Terminal Server software. It permits an unlimited number of “External Users” to access that copy of the server software. External Users cannot be employees, temporary personnel, or independent contractors on assignment at the worksite of the organization, or customers to whom organization provides hosted services. In general terms, External Users are an organization’s business partners or customers (for whom the server software is not being hosted).
In light of the discontinuation of desktop OS equivalency, Microsoft has developed a transition plan to accommodate customers who are licensed for Windows XP Professional (or entitled to upgrade to Windows XP Professional under Software Assurance (or other upgrade protection)) at the time that
16
Windows Server 2003 becomes publicly available (scheduled for April 24th, 2003). Customers who have acquired Windows XP Professional licenses (or active upgrade protection coverage (including Campus and School Agreements) for Windows Professional), prior to April 24, 2003 (i.e. the Windows Server 2003 launch date) will be granted complimentary Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CALs.
Customer Eligibility for Transition Plan To be eligible for the complimentary Terminal Server CAL, customers must meet one of the following criteria:
- Acquired Windows XP Professional license before April 24, 2003 (date of Windows Server 2003 launch)
- Have active Software Assurance or Upgrade Advantage coverage, or an active Enterprise enrollment, School Agreement or Campus Agreement before April 24th 2003 covering their Windows desktop operating system
Any such customers with upgrade protection coverage for Windows Professional will be deemed to have upgrade protection coverage for the complimentary Terminal Server CALs they receive. Customers with Windows XP Professional licenses without upgrade protection coverage will receive complimentary Terminal Server CALs without upgrade coverage protection. All other customers will need to acquire Terminal Server CALs for Windows Server 2003 via regular channels and prices. This includes customers with older versions of Windows desktop OS (e.g. Windows 2000), as well as those who acquire licenses for Windows XP Professional on or after April 24, 2003.
Process for Participation in Transition PlanThe process by which eligible customers obtain tokens for their complimentary Terminal Server CALs varies depending on how they acquired their corresponding Windows XP Professional licenses. Below are 2 scenarios:
Scenario 1: Windows XP Professional licenses acquired through volume licensing – Using the “Install Licenses” function of the Terminal Server Licensing administration tool, a customer needs to provide volume licensing program information (i.e. Enrollment number, Agreement number, or License and Authorization numbers, depending on program type) along with a requested number and type of Terminal Server CAL tokens. The information entered into the Terminal Server Licensing administration tool will be validated by the Microsoft Clearinghouse, and assuming that request for tokens falls within the boundaries of the entitlement, license tokens will be installed onto the Terminal Server License Server.
Scenario 2: Windows XP Professional licenses acquired through Retail or OEM channels – Customers who acquired Windows XP Professional licenses in these channels will have received a product key with their software, either on the retail packaging or on the Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) sticker on a PC’s chassis. Customers will need to visit the Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Licensing Transition site (http://licensecode.one.microsoft.com/transition) and enter these product keys. Once the product keys have been validated, the customer will receive an email containing a number of license codes equal to the number of qualifying product keys entered. These license codes can then be entered into the Terminal Server Licensing administrative tool using the Automatic, Web Page, or Telephone connection methods.
Select, Enterprise, Campus, School, and Services Provider License Agreement customers that acquired their Windows XP Professional licenses through Retail or OEM may use the method outlined in Scenario 1. All other volume licensing customers will need to use the Web site outline in Scenario 2.
For more details on the Terminal Server Licensing technology in Windows Server 2003, including the license token installation process discussed above, please see: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/terminalservices/default.mspx under the title, “Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Licensing: Licensing Technology White Paper”.
Ability to acquire Software Assurance on complimentary Terminal Server CALs: If customers would like to acquire Software Assurance (SA) for Terminal Server CALs received as part of this transition plan, that option will be available through December 31, 2003. Normally, Microsoft requires customers to purchase
17
SA at the time of license acquisition.. In this case of the transition plan, customers will have until the end of the 2003 calendar year, to acquire Software Assurance for their Terminal Server CALs.
Customers enroll the complimentary licenses in SA by acquiring the “Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CAL - Transition” SKU. This will be available from June 1-December 31, 2003. The License component of the L&SA SKU is not a second license in addition to the complimentary TS CAL customers receive; it is representative of that license.
FAQs
QUESTION: Why is the OS equivalency provision between Windows desktop OS and Terminal Server CALs being removed? Why won’t future versions of Windows desktop give me rights for a complimentary Terminal Server CAL?ANSWER: Two main reasons: a) increased value of Terminal Server CALs intrinsically, and b) desire for consistency with Microsoft’s new licensing framework.
Increased value. It is important to note that Microsoft has added new functionality to Microsoft Terminal Server in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 release. This release of Microsoft Terminal Server software will provide more value than previous releases and the additional functionality will provide customers with a better out-of-the-box solution. The following is a summary of some improvements that customers will get with Terminal Server CALs. Better User Experience
- Advanced Resource Redirection: (Disk drives, Local and Network Printers, Serial devices, Smart card, Clipboard, Time zone, Audio output, Windows key combos,)
- Hi Color (Up to 24-bit), 1600x1200 Enhanced Manageability
- WMI, Group Policy, ADSI, MMC Snap-In, Software Restriction Policy- Microsoft Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM)- Included in Microsoft Windows Server
2003, Enterprise Edition Increased Scalability
- Scale-up: improvements to scalability in larger SMP systems.- Scale-out: support for Load Balancing (Session Directory)
Enhanced Security- 128-bit bi-directional RC4 encryption- FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) Encryption Level- Smart Card Support
Consistency with Microsoft's new software licensing framework: As mentioned above, the change to Terminal Server licensing is consistent with broader efforts to improve the licensing of Windows Server 2003.
We received feedback from customers that the licensing of Terminal Server was highly confusing, largely due to the OS Equivalency provision. Because Microsoft Windows CALs and Microsoft Windows Server Terminal Server CALs are both required when using Microsoft Windows Terminal Server, having the same license structure removes a layer of complexity.
Microsoft Windows Terminal Server is adding the User CAL and External Connector options to solve many customer problems encountered with our previous Microsoft Windows Terminal Server licensing models. Maintaining the OS Equivalency Provision in conjunction with the new CAL options would result in customers having to do complicated calculations to determine what to acquire and when. For more information on the User Cal and External Connector options please refer to the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/
The OS equivalency provision resulted in situations in which customers were at risk of becoming noncompliant. In the past, if customers ran the most current version of the desktop operating system, those devices were granted access to Microsoft Windows Terminal Server in the Microsoft Windows
18
Server operating system. But if they upgraded to a new server operating system and didn’t upgrade their desktop operating systems, they were required to acquire Microsoft Windows Server Terminal Server CALs. Depending on desktop OS upgrade cycles, customers could easily find themselves moving in and out of compliance with licenses. This caused a great deal of frustration and confusion.
Microsoft Server and Desktop operating systems are now on different release schedules. In the past, server and desktop operating systems were often released on the same schedule. For instance, Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Professional were released at the same time. With the release of Windows XP Professional desktop operating system, the desktop and server release cycles have been de-coupled. As a result it would have become increasingly difficult for customers to understand which desktop OS would have qualified under the ‘equivalency’ provision to receive access to Terminal Servers without acquiring separate Terminal Server CALs.
QUESTION: With Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Professional desktops didn’t need a Terminal Server CAL – Why doesn’t Windows 2000 Professional qualify for the complimentary Terminal Server CAL?ANSWER: With previous releases of Terminal Server, only the most current Windows Professional release at the time that the Server OS released was granted rights to the complimentary Terminal Server CAL. If the licensing model had not changed and the equivalency provision was still in place, only Windows XP Professional would have qualified as an ‘equivalent’ desktop because it is the most current desktop OS release. Windows 2000 Professional would have not been granted access to a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. Therefore, the transition plan focuses on XP Professional customers.
QUESTION: How long do I have to activate the Terminal Server CAL which I receive in this transition plan? ANSWER: Customers have until December 31, 2005, to follow the steps above and receive their complimentary Terminal Server CALs. During this period, the transition Web site, TSLM, and Microsoft Clearinghouse will be equipped to dispense the appropriate number of Terminal Server CAL tokens to customers who validate their eligibility. Afterwards, customers will forfeit their right to this grandfathering process for complimentary Terminal Server CALs.
QUESTION: My budget cycle is set up so that I won’t be purchasing my next set of Windows XP Professional licenses until just after the Windows Server 2003 launch. Is there any way for me to get these complimentary Terminal Server CALs?ANSWER: Only Windows XP Professional licenses acquired before April 24, 2003 are eligible for the complimentary Terminal Server CAL licenses. Microsoft has had a Software Assurance program available since May, 2001, and those customers who chose (or choose) to join the program have the right to upgrade to the latest available software versions. Those who did not join the program need to acquire new Windows XP Professional licenses prior to the deadline date to get complimentary Terminal Server CALs.
QUESTION: I have other Windows operating systems (not Pro) licenses installed on my desktops, but I also have SA covering those licenses. I don’t want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional before April 24 – Can I still receive the complimentary Terminal Server CALs?ANSWER: Yes – Even if you don’t have Windows XP Professional installed, as long as you possess the rights to the license – for example, through Software Assurance, Upgrade Advantage, or an Enterprise Agreement – you are eligible for the complimentary Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CAL.
QUESTION: I used to have an EA/UA/SA agreement covering my Windows desktops which was active at the time that Windows XP Professional was released, but I let the agreement expire. However since I have rights to Windows XP Professional, can I receive Terminal Server CALs for the desktops that were covered under that agreement? ANSWER: Yes, as long as your upgrade protection coverage expired after the release of Windows XP Professional, you should have perpetual rights to Windows XP Professional. Therefore you would qualify for the transition plan to receive Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CALs for the desktops that were covered at the time that the agreement expired. You could then use these Terminal Server CALs in conjunction with Windows Server CALs.
19
QUESTION: If I have Windows XP Professional, can I apply the license towards a future version of the Terminal Server CAL, or can I get the current version only?ANSWER: The complimentary Terminal Server CAL being granted under this transition plan applies only to Windows Server 2003,. Customers interested in future versions of the Terminal Server beyond Windows Server 2003 may want to acquire SA for their Terminal Server CALs.
QUESTION: As part of the TS licensing transition plan, will customers be able to receive either a Terminal Server User or Device CAL?ANSWER: Yes, customers who qualify for the transition plan will be able to choose between a Terminal Server User CAL and a Terminal Server Device CAL for each qualifying desktop license. This allows customers to take advantage of the new Terminal Server User CAL in conjunction with the Windows Server CAL at the launch of Windows Server 2003.
QUESTION: Once I receive my complimentary Terminal Server CAL, how long do I have to acquire SA to keep it updated?ANSWER: Microsoft’s general policy is to require customers who desire SA to pay for it at the same time they acquire the underlying license. SA renewals allow grace periods of 30 to 90 days, depending on the product. Since customers may receive their complimentary Terminal Server CALs immediately after April 24, 2003, Microsoft will extend the normal 90-day grace period to December 31, 2003, during which SA may be acquired. After this period, customers who wish to upgrade their Terminal Server CALs but do not have SA will need to acquire a new Terminal Server CAL .
QUESTION: If I add SA to my Terminal Server CAL, how will the SA rights be priced?ANSWER: The SA for these complimentary Terminal Server CALs will be priced at the same level as SA for normally acquired Terminal Server CALs; that is, it costs 25% of the normally priced license per year, which varies depending on the channel and program through which the customer normally acquires licenses.
QUESTION: Will this offer for the complimentary Terminal Server CAL included subscription customers in the academic segment?ANSWER: Campus and School Agreement customers whose Windows XP Professional coverage is active at Windows Server 2003 launch will be eligible for a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CAL for each covered desktop or FTE (full-time equivalent). Upgrade rights are not provided on the Microsoft Windows Terminal Server 2003 CAL via this offer.
QUESTION: What about other subscription customers, like EA Subscription customers, or SPLA customers? Will they be eligible for complimentary Terminal Server CALs under the transition plan?ANSWER: Enterprise Agreement Subscribers will receive the right to use a complimentary Terminal Server CAL for Windows Server 2003 for each qualifying Windows desktop, but that right will expire at the end of the existing subscription agreement. If an EA subscription agreement happens to start on April 23, 2003, for example, the customer will retain the right to use the Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CAL for each qualifying desktop until April 23, 2006 (i.e. when the agreement expires), but thereafter, whether the agreement expires or renews, Microsoft will require the customer to pay for continued use of the Terminal Server CAL.
SPLA customers subscribe to Microsoft services on a month-to-month basis. Given this unique structure, and the fact that Windows desktop licenses (to which Terminal Server CAL equivalency has been tied) are not part of SPLA contracts, SPLA customers are not included in this Terminal Server transition plan.
QUESTION: For EA and EA Subscription customers, will desktops added to the agreements in future years via the true-up mechanism be granted a complimentary TS CAL, as well?ANSWER: Yes, in recognition of the commitment that EA and EAS customers make to Microsoft software, desktops added in future years to agreements signed before April 24, 2003, via the true-up mechanism, will be granted Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server CALs. These trued-up desktops, in other words, will receive the same grant as other transition-plan participants. Qualifying companies will use the same
20
Terminal Server token redemption process as outlined above, to receive these complimentary Terminal Server CALs.
QUESTION: How will I prove compliance for these complimentary Terminal Server CALs? Will I receive any licensing documentation to validate my rights to L?ANSWER: When customers visit the transition Web site, they will see and be able to download a letter confirming that each license of Windows XP Professional acquired before April 24, 2003, is equal to a license for a Terminal Server CAL. If customers show a valid Windows XP Professional license and that letter, Microsoft’s licensing requirements will be satisfied.
QUESTION: Is the licensing model for Windows 2000 Server changing?ANSWER: No, the licensing of Windows 2000 Server is not changing. Customers will still license their servers on a Per-Device basis and Windows 2000 Professional and Window s XP Professional desktops will still be able to connect to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server without acquiring a separate Terminal Server CAL. The User CAL and the External Connector are not options available to license a Windows 2000 Server.
QUESTION: Do I have to acquire Terminal Server CALs if I am only remotely managing my Windows Servers by using Remote Desktop for Administration (previously Terminal Services Remote Administration mode)?ANSWER: No, as was the case with Windows 2000, up to 2 concurrent connections may be made to a Windows Server 2003 server in order to remotely administrate the server using Remote Desktop without requiring Terminal Server CALs.

Licensing Microsoft Server Products with Microsoft Virtual Server R2 and Other Virtual Machine Technologies
Licensing Microsoft Server Products with Virtual Machine TechnologiesThis licensing brief provides an overview of updates to Microsoft’s licensing models for the server operating system and server applications. It also clarifies existing licensing policies to help you deploy and use software under these updated models. These updates do not apply to the desktop operating system or desktop applications. The purpose of these updates and clarifications is to help you understand how to use Microsoft server products with virtual machine technologies such as Microsoft® Virtual Server 2005 R2. These updates and clarifications are less significant if you do not use virtual machine technology.
Many of the updates described in this licensing brief apply to licenses purchased from channels other than Microsoft Volume Licensing. However, there are some differences. Please review the license terms that accompany the software if you have acquired licenses through a means other than a Microsoft Volume Licensing agreement.
Definitions of certain terms are included at the end of this licensing brief. Please review those terms. They are helpful in understanding virtual machine technology and your use rights for Microsoft server products.

Virtual Machine Technology on x86 and x64 Hardware PlatformsVirtual machine (VM) technology allows you to run multiple operating system environments (OS environments) on a single physical hardware system (e.g., a server) (Figure 1). Before VM technology, you could run only one OS environment on a server at a time—the physical OS environment that runs directly on the server (Figure 2 – A).1 Current technologies such as Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 add a layer on top of the OS in the physical OS environment to enable you to run multiple OS environments on the same server (Figure 2 – B). VM technology works by allocating virtualized hardware resources to virtual hardware systems or virtual machines. Virtual OS environments run on virtual machines. Upcoming technologies from Microsoft and other vendors provide virtualization services directly in the OS and rely on a hypervisor to allocate resources to individual OS environments on a server (Figure 2 – C). Processors from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will include technology starting in 2006 to improve the performance of VM technologies on x86 and x64 hardware platforms.2
Figure 1 – Physical and virtual hardware and OS environments
1 Hardware partitioning technology can also be used to run multiple OS environments on a physical hardware system. However, this technology is primarily available on high-end systems.2 Intel’s technology is called VT. AMD’s technology is called Pacifica.

Benefits and Capabilities of VM TechnologyMicrosoft is committed to developing and investing in VM technology to deliver a number of benefits and capabilities. These include3:
Production server consolidation: Reduce TCO by maximizing hardware utilization and consolidating workloads Legacy application re-hosting. VM technology allows legacy applications that need an older OS to
run on a VM with that older OS. The VM can run on a server with newer hardware and a newer OS. The technology enables greater application availability, without application upgrades or violating ISV support policies.
Server consolidation. VM technology can be used to consolidate a variety of workloads, each running on its own instance of the OS, from many servers onto fewer servers. The technology allows instances of the same or different OS, or of the same OS with different patch levels, to run on a server.
Resource partitioning. VM technology can be used to provide OS environments with specific resource limits. The technology can limit a given OS environment to using only a subset of the server’s overall processing, memory and other resources.

Business continuity management: Eliminate scheduled and unscheduled downtime Workload deployment and provisioning. VM technology can package an instance of the OS, and the
applications that are configured to run on it, into a virtual hard disk (VHD) file.4 The VHD file can be rapidly deployed onto a licensed server to run the workload it contains. Complex workloads that span multiple servers on a network can be quickly provisioned by deploying the associated VHD files together. A workload can also be easily duplicated by copying its associated VHD file. A particularly interesting use of this capability is to create a central library of workloads in preconfigured VHD files on centralized storage and deploy them on servers as necessary.
OS and application patching and rollback. With VM and management technology, VHD files with preconfigured OS and application instances can be patched offline. These updated VHD files can be quickly swapped for production instances, dramatically shortening the time to deploy a patch to a critical system to just minutes—allowing time for offline testing, production testing and rapid rollback.
Batch jobs. VM technology can be used with scripts and schedulers to automatically start and stop workloads on a server according to a pre-defined schedule.
Isolation/sandboxing. VM technology can be used to provide secure, isolated OS environments for running untrusted applications. With the proper safeguards and security mechanisms, these OS environments can be sandboxed to protect other application and server instances from crashing. In addition, the technology can help prevent malicious code from affecting other OS environments on the same server or other servers in the network.
Increased performance and reliability on multi-core processor5 and multi-processor servers. VM technology can continuously shift the execution of an OS environment to the optimal core or processor in the server. When a particular OS environment is configured to use only a subset of the server’s overall processing resources, VM technology can provide these resources from cores on separate physical processors, if necessary.
Dynamic data center: Leverage the benefits of virtualization to create a more agile infrastructure Workload mobility. VM technology can be used to encapsulate the complete running state of an OS
environment. With this capability, running workloads can be moved from one licensed server to another by pausing the OS environment momentarily, moving the associated VHD file, and continuing execution of the workload.
Development and testing: Maximize test hardware to reduce costs, improve lifecycle management and improve test coverage Development and testing. VM technology can be a great tool in software development, test and
staging environments. The technology allows for detailed step-by-step debugging and performance monitoring of individual workloads. It can also be used to create arbitrary test scenarios to ensure proper operation in niche scenarios and hardware configurations. In addition, it can be used to simulate the operation of a workload running across a network of multiple servers—on a single physical hardware system.
Updates to Licensing Models for Microsoft Server ProductsMicrosoft is updating the licensing models for server products to enable you to take advantage of the benefits and capabilities of VM technology. We are also clarifying existing licensing policies to help you understand how to use our software under these updated models. If you do not use VM technology, these updates and clarifications do not significantly impact your use of Microsoft server products.
OverviewThe following summary provides an overview of the updated licensing models and clarifications to existing licensing policies. For further detail and examples, please see the white paper at

http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/userights. Your review of this licensing brief and white paper should not substitute for careful review and understanding of your rights and obligations as described in your Microsoft volume licensing agreement. The updates to the licensing models apply to new licenses for all server products covered by the December 1, 2005 Product Use Rights (PUR). For these products, you may also choose to apply the updates to licenses acquired prior to December 1st. However, if you apply any of these updates to any of your existing licenses, you must apply all the updates to all of your existing licenses. For example, these updates do not apply to a Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000 license because that product is not covered by the December 1st PUR. They may apply to an Exchange Server 2003 license acquired prior to December 1st because that product is covered by the December 1st PUR.
Products Impacted Updates and Clarifications

Updates Use terms for each software license6 specify the number of
instances of software that you may run on a particular server at a time, rather than the number of copies of the software that you may install and use on your server.
Each software license allows you to create and store any number of instances of the software on any of your servers or storage media to make it easier for you to run those instances on any of your licensed servers.
Clarifications Before you use the software under a license for a server product,
you must assign that license to a server Each hardware partition or blade is a separate physical hardware
system, and therefore a separate server. You may reassign software licenses for server products, but not
on a short-term basis (i.e., not within 90 days of the last assignment). They may be reassigned sooner if you retire the licensed server due to permanent hardware failure.
You may not separate software to run it in more than one OS environment under a single license, unless expressly permitted—even if the OS environments are on the same server.
Products in the Microsoft Server OS and Microsoft Server/CAL licensing models in the December 1st PUR
Windows Server 2003 Exchange Server 2003 SQL Server 2005 Etc.
Updates Each external connector license (EC) allows any number of
external users to access any number of instances of the server software on a particular server, even if those instances are run under multiple licenses for the software.
Clarifications Each client access license (CAL) allows any number of OS
environments on a particular device (e.g., client device) to access the server software. You do not need a separate device CAL for each OS environment on a device.
6 Software licenses refer to the license for the software bits. To license a product appropriately, you might also need additional licenses (e.g., client access licenses, external connector licenses, operations management licenses, and configuration management licenses.)

Products Impacted Updates and Clarifications
Products in the Management Servers licensing model in the December 1st PUR
Microsoft Operations Manager 2005
Systems Management Server 2003
Systems Center Data Protection Manager 2006
Etc.
Clarifications Each management license (e.g., OML, CML) allows any number
of OS environments on a particular device to be managed by the server software. You do not need a separate management license to manage each OS environment on a managed device.
Products in the Per Processor licensing model in the December 1st PUR
Microsoft BizTalk® Server 2004 SQL Server 2005 ISA Server 2004 Etc.
Updates Software run in a virtual OS environment is licensed based on the
number of virtual processors used by that virtual OS environment, rather than all the physical processors in the server.
o If you run the software in virtual OS environments, you need a license for each virtual processor used by those virtual OS environments on a particular server—whether the total number of virtual processors is lesser or greater than the number of physical number of processors in that server.
o If you run the software in a physical OS environment, you need a license for each physical processor used by the physical OS environment.
Microsoft is also introducing expanded use rights for Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2005. These expanded use rights are summarized in the following table. They apply only to the specific editions described. They do not apply to previous versions of these products.
Products Impacted Expanded Use Rights
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition
Each software license allows you to run, at any one time, one instance of the server software in a physical OS environment and up to four instances of the server software in virtual OS environments on a particular server.
SQL Server 2005 (licensed Server/CAL) Workgroup Edition, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition
Each software license allows you to run any number of instances of the server software in one physical or virtual OS environment on a particular server at a time.
Definitions:
Server: A server is a physical hardware system capable of running server software. A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate physical hardware system, and therefore a separate server.

Instance: You create an instance of software by executing the software’s setup or install procedure. You can also create an instance of software by duplicating an existing instance. An instance of software is the set of files that make up the software, stored in executable form and ready to be run.
Examples: An installed copy of Windows Server 2003 on a hard disk is an instance of Windows Server 2003. An installed copy of Exchange Server within a VHD (or other image format) file is an instance of Exchange
Server. A VHD file with Exchange Server installed on top of Windows Server 2003 contains an instance of
Windows Server 2003 and an instance of Exchange Server. Copying that VHD file will create another instance of Windows Server 2003 and another instance of Exchange Server. Deploying that VHD file to another server will create an instance of Windows Server 2003 and an instance of Exchange on that server.
Run an instance: You run an instance of software by loading it into memory and executing one or more of its instructions. Once running, an instance is considered to be running (whether or not its instructions continue to execute) until it is removed from memory.
Examples: If you merely copy an existing instance, it is not considered to be running because no instruction from that
instance has yet been executed. If you load an instance of Exchange Server into memory, and execute one of its instructions, you are
running an instance of Exchange Server. If you pause execution of any instructions of that instance by shifting all execution resources to another application, you are still considered to be running that instance of Exchange Server because it is still loaded in memory. To stop running an instance, you must terminate execution of its instructions, and also completely remove it from memory.
Assigning a license: To assign a license means simply to designate that license to one device or user. The purpose of this designation is to avoid sharing a license across multiple devices or multiple users at the same time.

Virtual processors are considered to have the same number of threads and cores as each physical processor in the underlying physical hardware system. Microsoft is adopting this definition to enable customers to take advantage of the licensing policy we announced in 2004 for multi-core processors.7 For reliability and performance, VM technology can allocate resources from separate physical processors in the server to create a virtual processor for use by a particular OS environment. If the physical processors in the server have two cores, for licensing purposes, each virtual processor also has two cores, even if the cores are allocated from separate physical processors. For example, in Figure D5 below, the virtual processor 1 is allocated a core from physical processor 1 and a core from physical processor 2. Although that virtual processor is using cores from different physical processors, it is considered to be only a single virtual processor because it has the same number of cores as the physical processors in the server.8

virtual OS environment on server B, for licensing purposes, each virtual processor in each virtual OS environment can have up to two cores as well. It does not matter whether those cores are allocated from the same physical processor or not.
Assume server C has four-core processors. If you are running BizTalk Server in a virtual OS environment on server C, for licensing purposes, each virtual processor in each virtual OS environment can have up to four cores as well. It does not matter whether those cores are allocated from the same physical processor or not.

Introducing, the Next-Generation Data Management and Analysis Software…
SQL Server 2005 Features Comparison
Microsoft has redesigned the SQL Server 2005 product family to better meet the needs of each
customer segment with four new editions: Express, Workgroup, Standard, and Enterprise. As a
low-cost mainstream database, SQL Server 2005 will deliver unprecedented value and
functionality compared with competitive solutions. The four new editions will offer a range of
features, from high availability and robust scalability to advanced business intelligence tools,
designed to empower users across an organization through a more secure, reliable, and
productive data management platform. Additionally, with the reduced application downtime, robust
scalability and performance, and tight security controls, SQL Server 2005 represents a dramatic
step forward in supporting the most demanding enterprise systems in the world. Because SQL
Server is part of Windows Server System, customers also receive the added benefits of reduced
total cost of ownership and faster development time through the increased manageability and

required for the new remote wipe feature, coming in late 2005.
41
Investigate the Exchange Server 2003 support for mobile devices to take full advantage of new
mobility enhancements.
Exchange Server 2003 SP2 Overview
Add even better protection, reliability, and easier administration as well as improved mobile messaging to your Exchange Server 2003 messaging environment when used with compatible devices.
What Is SP2?
SP2 is a cumulative update that enhances your Exchange Server 2003 messaging environment with:
Mobile e-mail improvements
Better protection against spam
Mailbox advancements
Mobile E-Mail Improvements
SP2 offers a huge leap forward in mobility capabilities. With SP2, Exchange Server 2003 can offer a significantly improved Microsoft Outlook experience on mobile devices as well as additional security and device control. As always, the Exchange ActiveSync protocol does not require expensive software or outsourcing fees to access data on your server running Exchange Server.
The mobility enhancements in SP2 give you:
New seamless Direct Push Technology e-mail experience. No longer is there a reliance on short
message service (SMS) to notify and ensure that your device automatically retrieves new e-mail from
your Exchange server. SP2 uses an HTTP connection, maintained by the device, to push new e-mail
messages, calendar, contact, and task notifications to the device.
Additional data compression translating to a faster experience when sending and receiving messages
and reduced sync times.
Additional Outlook properties, including support for task synchronization and pictures in your list of
contacts. In addition, you can now look up people by using the Global Address List (GAL) over the air.
Greater control over device security, including:
- Policy setting. Unlock a device with a password.
- Local wipe. Decide how many incorrect logon attempts are permitted before your data might be at risk.
- Remote wipe. Lost, stolen, or misplaced devices are never out of reach. You decide when it’s prudent to
reset devices remotely over the Web.
Such policies help to ensure corporate data or applications are not compromised when devices are lost or get into the wrong hands.
New optional support for certificate-based authentication to eliminate the need to store
corporate credentials on a device.
42
Added support for Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) to sign
and encrypt messages coming to and from mobile devices.
For details about the other mobility features in Exchange Server 2003, see the Mobility in Exchange Server 2003 page.
Most mobile e-mail improvements, with the exception of support for tasks and for pictures in contacts lists, require that your device or the software on the devices be compatible with Exchange Server 2003 SP2. Windows Mobile–based devices require the Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0.
Licensees of the Exchange ActiveSync protocol can take advantage of these improvements through updates to their messaging applications or devices. The roadmap for those devices is owned and managed by the licensee.
If you have installed Microsoft Windows Media Player, you can see the Messaging and Security Feature Pack in action:
View video at 5 megabits per second (Mbps)
View video at 2 Mbps
View video at 300 kilobits per second
To see how the "heartbeat" of Direct Push Technology keeps your mobile device up to date, view screenshots of the GAL Lookup and of other features, and more, register on the Microsoft Events site to watch the Secure and Scalable Messaging with Windows Mobile 5.0 webcast.
Better Protection Against Spam
SP2 delivers improved protection against spam to help ensure a secure and reliable messaging environment, including:
Updated and integrated Exchange Intelligent Message Filter. Based on the same patented
SmartScreen filtering technology developed by Microsoft Research and now incorporated in Microsoft
Office Outlook 2003, MSN Internet Software and Services, and MSN Hotmail, SP2 incorporates the
latest data and updates to the Exchange Intelligent Message Filter. Improvements to this filter ensure a
continued focus on identifying spam and reducing false positives. These updates include new
capabilities in the fight against spam including blocking phishing schemes. Phishing schemes attempt
through deception to fraudulently solicit sensitive personal information by masquerading as legitimate
Web sites.
New support for Sender ID e-mail authentication protocol. This new feature further helps prevent
unwanted mailbox phishing and spoofing schemes by verifying the IP address of the e-mail sender
against the purported owner of the sending domain. Spoofing attacks occur when one person or program
is able to masquerade successfully as another to gain access to personal e-mail messages. The result of
the Sender ID check is used as input to the Exchange Intelligent Message Filter. The sender must have
registered a list of the valid IP addresses in DNS for accuracy. To learn more about Sender ID, see the
Sender ID page on the Microsoft Safety site.
43
Sender ID framework
Mailbox Advancements
Drive down operational costs and the complexity of your messaging environments with advances such as:
Increase in mailbox storage size limits to 75 gigabyte (GB) for Exchange Server 2003 Standard
Edition in response to your feedback and evolving mailbox storage needs.
New offline address book format offers significantly improved performance particularly when Outlook
clients are operating in cached mode.
Cache mode enforcement with added flexibility. You now can force clients into cached mode to help
improve performance and increase the number of active users per server. This is especially beneficial to
organizations seeking to further site and server consolidation.
Finer controls for public folders, including better replication and permissions management, safe
removal of servers, and folder deletion logging to increase administrative efficiency.
Full support for Novell GroupWise 6.x connectors and migration tools.
Iberian and Brazilian Portuguese spelling checker for Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access
Top 10 Reasons to Install Exchange Server 2003 SP2
While there are many excellent reasons to install Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2), these 10 reasons top the list.
1. Keep up to date with Direct Push Technology.
It's easy for mobile workers to keep on top of issues with improved Exchange ActiveSync technology that
automatically pushes Exchange Server data to mobile devices over HTTP and HTTPS. With SP2,
synchronization has been extended to include more Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 properties, including Tasks.
2. Help protect your mobile devices through policy enforcement.
With easily enforceable device policies such as remote wipe, local wipe, and PIN lock, you can more
securely enable mobile access to Exchange Server.
3. Boost your defenses with Microsoft Exchange Server Intelligent Message Filter and Sender ID.
SP2 raises the bar in the antispam war. The latest Exchange Server Intelligent Message Filter incorporates
checks against phishing scams and domain spoofing tactics.
44
4. Support larger mailboxes with the raised storage limit in Standard Edition.
Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition can now accommodate your users' demands for larger mailboxes.
In SP2, storage limits have increased to 75 gigabytes (GB).
5. Simplify public folder administration.
If your company uses public folders, SP2 brings a number of improvements to make them easier to manage
and maintain, such as new wizards for easier administration, folder deletion logging and added replication
controls.
6. Get your e-mail faster when on the go.
Additional data compression through GZIP reduces synchronization bandwidth and latency giving you a
faster experience when sending and receiving messages over mobile devices.
7. Access contact information wirelessly.
Looking up global address list information stored on Exchange Server makes it easier to conduct business
when out of the office.
8. Gain more mobile e-mail security options.
Support for Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) message encryption and certificate-
based authentication of mobile e-mail gives you more options for more securely handling your mobile e-mail.
9. Migrate with peace of mind with fully supported tools to move from GroupWise.
Get the Migration Wizard and Connector for Novell GroupWise 6.x, included in SP2, now fully supported
for co-existence and migration support from GroupWise 6.x to Exchange Server 2003.
10. Extend server consolidation with optimized cached mode.
Administrators now have the ability to force clients into cached mode to help increase the number of active
users per server. Also new with SP2, the offline address book has been reformatted to improve cached mode
performance. These improvements extend opportunities for site and server consolidation.
Note: Most mobile e-mail improvements in SP2 require compatible devices. See the Frequently Asked Questions About Exchange Server 2003 SP2 page for more information.
