Solution Documentation Assistant (SDA)Scope and Benefits
Solution Documentation Assistant helps verifying and rating your business process documentation. Data
basis is the usage frequency of technical objects related to the business process structure. The usage
frequency gives transparency about potentially obsolete and clarity about mission-critical objects and is an
excellent starting point for initial documentation as well.
Scope Analysis of template, implementation and maintenance projects
Analyzes usage of technical objects like transactions, reports,
BADIs and custom developments
SQL statement analysis enables live system analysis from a
business perspective
Uses the existing SAP Solution Manager infrastructure like
system connections and technical statistical data
Benefits
Accelerates initial Solution Documentation
Enhanced solution and usage transparency
Enables simple and fast system consolidation
Standardization through comparison of business processes at
different locations
Basis for optimized test planning
Cost-efficient through automated verification of Solution
Documentation

Enrich Business Blueprint structure with analysis results
To further enrich and complete your business blueprint structure, you can directly
assign objects from a Solution Documentation Assistant analysis to your business
blueprint (Transaction SOLAR01).
1. Open the business
blueprint and go to
the transactions tab.
2. Select „Edit“
„Assign objects from
analysis“ from the
menu
3. Select the analysis,
the logical
component(s) and
optional filters
(component, object
source, type etc.)

New data source: Usage & Procedure Logging
Until now, the Solution Documentation Assistant (SDA) always used statistical data from the
transaction ST03 in the managed system as the basis for creating usage analyses.
Now, another data source has been added – users can now select statistical usage data from
SAP kernel logs as the basis for usage analyses. Usage Procedure Logging (UPL) is a kernel
functionality to log the usage of several objects processed. This client independent information
is then transferred on a regularly basis to a BI InfoProvider. The SDA makes use of such data
to determine the usage of e.g. business scenarios, business processes and process steps .
Advantages:
High accuracy of usage analyses
due to precise statistical data
Deeper analysis insights (not only
transactions and reports, but also
function modules, form routines,
methods etc.)

What is Reverse Business Process Documentation?
Reverse Business Process Documentation (RBPD) allows the customer to
easily re-document his business processes directly from his SAP systems.
The re-documentation is done by analyzing the actual usage of the system
and is supported by comprehensive analysis content pre-delivered from SAP.

Configuration ValidationThe idea behind it
A reporting to understand how homogeneous the configuration of systems is
Use centrally stored configuration data in Solution Manager to do a validation
of a large number of systems using a sub set of the collected configuration data
Typical questions are:
All systems on a certain OS level or DB level?
Template configuration (SAP or DB parameter) applied on all systems?
No kernel older than 6 month on all systems?
Security policy settings applied? Security defaults in place?
Have certain transports arrvied in the systems?
System 1 System 2 System 3 System 4 System N

Process Integration (PI) MonitoringRequirements & Motivation
Growing PI landscape complexity and distribution leads to
growing requirements towards a central monitoring approach
Reduce the time
For regular system health checks
For hand-over procedures
From incident detection to root cause
Relieve productive systems from individual monitoring
activities by a central collection of monitoring data
Reduce the TCO by simplification of the operations processes
e.g. providing one central entry point combining monitors for
PI overall status with drill-down options up to host level
Enable tight integration with:
System Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis
Alerting Infrastructure
Notification- / Incident Management

Examples: Checking of z-tables between different SAP systems
Checking consistency between SAP system and non-SAP System
Checking of standard tables between different SAP systems for which no check

This gap is filled by the Cross-Database Compare functionality in SAP Solution

Data Consistency ToolboxMotivation
If an inconsistency has been detected, the question is
now how to analyze and solve it. Procedures to
anaylze and solve inconsistencies can be very
complex.
Guided procedures for the solving of data
inconsistencies facilitate this analysis.
In addition, some solution lifecycle events may
require an ad-hoc consistency analysis to be
executed.
The Data Consistency Toolbox is available for both
these use-cases.

system landscape, e.g.
• OS & DB patches, SAP kernel patches
• Support packages
• Enhancement Packages
• Legal Change Packages and HR support packages
Different objects have different deployment strategy
No central procedure to control maintenance activities
No standardized way to perform maintenance activities
