Hurricane Sandy Update from the J.We hope everyone is doing well in the aftermath of the storm. The JCC like so many of you, was without power as a result of Hurricane Sandy. We were closed from Monday afternoon of the storm and reopened the following Saturday afternoon. In addition to having the facility open for our members, we hosted a pasta dinner on Saturday evening, and a pasta lunch the next afternoon. We were happy to offer our members and members of the community a warm, safe place to be…to shower, charge their cell phones and computers. To just “hang out”. We want to thank everyone who volunteered at our pasta meals and to all those who donated food…from baked ziti to salad to cupcakes…we had it all. The outpouring of caring and support from our members was truly inspirational. We have been serving the local community for more than 13 years, and as a staff and board, we were never more proud to be part of this JCC as we were the first few days after reopening our JCC. We want to thank our staff for pulling together and doing whatever it took to open the building and be here for our members. A footnote regarding emergency communications. Please be sure the JCC has your e-mail address so that you receive our e-blasts. In addition, please “Like” us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter, as so-cial media plays an extremely important role in our communications to our members and the community. Social Media sometimes is the most immediate form of communication that we can provide. That was evident during and in the days following Sandy. We encourage those of you on Facebook and Twitter to please keep in touch with us and to help the JCC get our messages out by sharing them with your Facebook Friends and Twitter Followers. Of course our website, www.ssbjcc.org, is also updated regularly with important communications about JCC operations.
