WHAT’S ON A space for arts and ideas, connections and discoveries

AUTUMN/WINTER 2016

3

WELCOME TO OMNIBUSWhen it comes to shaping our new season, we’re always listening.

You said you wanted more theatre. We’re giving you (amongst others) Mule (already a Critics’ Choice at Edinburgh Fringe), 64 Squares from the amazing company Rhum & Clay, The Man Who Would be King (based on Rudyard Kipling’s wonderful story) and the “soul-breaking, heart-rending” Trials of Galileo.

You said you wanted diverse musical talent. We’re giving you the best of new and upcoming jazz, including two nights of the EFG London Jazz Festival (featuring Bahla and Luftabbamic), classical (including Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time and Dante Quartet), flamenco, and fabulous vocal talent from The Garden Consort.

You said you wanted us to keep it fresh. Well, Bow Wow Shop’s multi-faceted evenings bring together poetry, music, conversation and visual art on a special theme (Orpheus and Edward Lear in our new season).

As well as that, there’s our So, This Is What Happened... storytelling night, family shows, comedy, improv, new writing, new drama, and a wonderful Christmas show, Otto and the Robin.

Be part of our next chapter. Come along and see us – whether you have a tale to tell, want to watch a world-class performance, or volunteer to help with our work.

Marie McCarthy Artistic Director, Omnibus

OMNIBUS: OUR CHARITY

You may know that Omnibus is one of London’s newest and most exciting arts centres, but you might not be aware that we are a registered charity.

Unlike most arts centres, we receive absolutely no guaranteed funding or statutory support, and box office proceeds only cover 1/3 of our annual income. We rely on generous donations to keep our doors open, to stage first class art and provide creative opportunities for the whole community.

OMNIBUSMEMBERSHIP

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT OMNIBUS?DONATIONSDonations large and small are essential to help us keep our doors open and create amazing artistic experiences.

OUR STORYFollowing a seven year campaign, the community supported us by raising £130,000 to keep the building open for the benefit of the public. We are determined to continue our mission to improve lives through the power of theatre, music, art, literature and everything in between. Without the support of individuals, businesses and trusts and foundations, this would quite simply be impossible.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our supporters and would like to thank them all for their contributions to Omnibus. For more information about how to help Omnibus, please visit omnibus-clapham.org/support_us.

If you would like information about how you can help Omnibus achieve its goals, please email [email protected], or call 020 7498 4699.Omnibus is a registered charity. Charity no. 1143709.

“I am delighted to become a Patron of Omnibus because I want others to have the same opportunity that I had. Omnibus provides an opportunity for the next generation to explore and take part in the arts; something I believe should be open to everyone.”

Ordinary people tell their extra-ordinary stories. They’re poignant, funny, life affirming, cathartic and true. You could be part of it if you have a story to tell.

An extraordinary evening celebrating the power of words.

Following his recently released EP ‘Heartsong’ (included in Jazz London Radio’s best releases of 2015) London based jazz guitarist Jamie Leeming presents an exciting mix of jazz, pop, folk and melodic guitar.

A scratch night presenting emerging artists working across art forms and between genres.

Featuring Harmony by award-winning spoken word artist Jemima Foxtrot, Elephant & Castle by performer/composer Tom Adams and Learning to Swim in the Abyss, an experiment in live-making and death, by Stella Duffy.

B’s got some memories he wants to share with you. The problem? He’s been split into four and can’t remember what happened.

With a live jazz percussive score, Rhum & Clay’s 64 Squares is a story about memory, free will and how the choices of our past define the present.

Creating magical worlds and transforming everyday objects in their den, can the owl and the pussycat work together to tell the most important tale of all? Their own story.

Inspired by the runcible works of Edward Lear, Soap Soup Theatre present some of Lear’s most loved poems in a feast for the eyes, ears and imagination!
