Welcome Back! I am over the moon to welcome you all back to Winchester for the start of the second term! Since being back in the office from early January, it is safe to say that campus is just not the same without you all here. I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year and are ready to knuckle down with all the hard work ahead! The first three weeks of this semester consist of essay deadlines and exams, and from past experience I know how hard and stressful this time can be. It is so important to schedule your revision properly and also choose the correct environment to work in. It is also vital to ensure that you take lots of breaks...watch some TV, have a cup of tea...being overtired will not help you reach your full potential. Be prepared, keep calm and think positive. On behalf of all at the Student Union, I wish you all the best of luck in all your work and forthcoming exams. For those of you who are having any trouble or need some advice, then as always, we are here to ease the pressure. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the other officers who will be more than happy to assist in any way they can. Aside from exams, Term 2 at the Student Union is shaping up to be even better than last term (As impossible as that sounds!). As well as the legend that is BOP every Wednesday, the flirt! themes for this semester include Commando, 90’s, Disney and Pyjamas amongst others...guaranteed to be an amazing night full of the usual fancy dress, fun & games all night long! This term also sees the return of Bierkeller, Winchester’s Got Talent and Winton! Bierkeller has always been one of my favourite nights and since last year, many people have continued to ask if it is coming back. The German beer festival with a live German band is guaranteed to sell out quickly so make sure you get your tickets as soon as they come on sale! Winchester’s Got Talent is also returning to the Vault after its huge success last year. All talents are welcome and if you are interested in competing in front of a judging panel with the chance to make the final and the opportunity to perform at the Summer Ball then email [email protected]. It is an amazing and nerve-wracking show that gets better by the year. Winton, the biggest sporting event of the year, is fast approaching! Winton see’s graduates come back to take on Team Winchester. I am sure you will hear from Jez in the very near future with all the details. That’s all from me! Welcome back, once again, and hope you all settle back in to the swing of things. All of us at the Student Union continue to represent and support you throughout your academic career and can be contacted, as usual, by phone, email, or by visiting us in our offices on Level 3 of the University Centre. Good luck with all your work and may this term be just as good as the last! ‘A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can't do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do’ - - Chuck Norris Seb x (Seb Miell, Student Union President) 17th - 30th January 2011
