Wheat Disease Rating Scale

In order to assess the effectiveness of Headline compared to the untreated check, wheat leaf ratings should be taken about 4 weeks after application. Evaluations should be made as follows:

• Look at the flag leaf and the leaf just below the flag leaf to determine the diseases present.

• Use visual charts as guides (see examples below) to determine percent leaf area affected by the disease. Use the chart which most closely represents the leaf area affected. Include the area affected in the halo that often surrounds the necrotic area or rust pustule.

• Use scale (0-9) for each plant where 1 = 10%, 2 = 20%, 3 = 30% etc. Use 9 when 90% or more of the leaf area is covered.

• Rate 12-15 leaves per treatment. Record on appropriate data form.
