(after it rains) Vertical surfaces, such as siding, trim and windows, can be coated several hours after a rain. Flat surfaces, such as decks and wood or metal railings, should not be coated for 24 hours because the moisture content in a flat surface remains moist for longer periods of time. In windy and sunny weather, moisture will evaporate sooner and you may recoat in as little as an hour after it rains. Evaporation is slower in cloudy, cooler and humid conditions. In these situations, your best bet is to wait three to four hours before painting. Most paints today are Acrylic or Water Based. Because these coatings cure by water evaporating out of the product, a small amount of moisture will not be counterproductive. Alkyd & Oil based coatings do not adhere to moist surfaces which necessitates longer waiting times. Vertical surfaces, such as siding, trim and windows, can be coated several hours after a rain. Flat surfaces, such as decks and wood or metal railings, should not be coated for 24 hours because the moisture content in a flat surface remains moist for longer periods of time.

Most paints today are Acrylic or Water Based. Because these coatings cure by water evaporating out of the product, a small amount of moisture will not be counterproductive. Alkyd & Oil based coatings do not adhere to moist surfaces which necessitates longer waiting times.
