ThE ImpORTANCE Of ACOuSTIC COmfORT IN EvERydAy LIfENoise has always been a problem since the ancient past. Reference to this problem can be found in Marziale’s “epistolae”. Marziale craves his country house because “for a poor there is no place to think or to rest in Rome “due to the incessant noise of the city. Also, Seneca complains about his house above the thermal baths and underlines that “during study, silence is as necessary as sight”.Certainly, ancient Romans, who complain about the noise of car-riage wheels or street vendors disturbing the public peace with their loudness, they never could have imagined to what level noise would have increased two thousand years later.Noise is undoubtedly an element that affects the quality of life. To date, several scientific studies have shown that being exposed to excessive noise can affect our health and in particular auditory system.We spend most of our time indoor as offices, houses, schools, restaurants or gyms and if those environments are not acoustically adequate, we risk the consequences of this conditions in terms of reduced comfort or even disturbance.Our isolspace mission is to achieve the perfect acoustic comfort in every environment for the well-being of every environment.

REvERBERATIONThe phenomenon of reverberation describes the increase in sound level from an active source in an enclosed environment. This phenomenon is due to the reflection of sound waves generated by an internal source on the surfaces that delimit the volume of the environment itself. for instance, in schools the voices of teachers and pupils are source of noise, in restaurants voices and kitchenware are sources of noise. Inside a room we are subject to the direct sound emitted by a source and its reflections which are perceived as a “reverberation”, a continuous sound or “background noise”.

SOuNd ABSORpTIONIn almost all environments the phenomenon of “reverberation” is per-ceived as disturbing and annoying. Sound waves that propagate in a closed environment, reaching the surfaces that delimit their volume, find an obstacle to their propagation and can lose energy within the material on which they break. The amount of energy that remains trapped in the material depends on the physical and morphological characteristics of the material itself. In this perspective, a material is as more sound ab-sorbing as it can keep the sound. This is the typical behaviour of porous and fibrous materials that dissipate sound energy into heat energy by friction.

ACOuSTIC CORRECTIONThe acoustic correction of an environment comprises an accurate analysis of the environment through the measurement of the “reverber-ation time”, and then a careful planning of the intervention to ensure the correct quantity of sound absorbing material to be inserted in the envi-ronment to create a situation of optimal comfort. In case of an acoustic correction project, it is important to know the environment layout and its intended use. Thus, it is essential to consider that reflective materials such as glass or mirrored surfaces, and irregular geometries such as vaulted ceilings, can make the interior acoustics particularly unfavoura-ble for certain intended uses.

LAW & STANdARdSThe Italian legislation is not very compre-hensive concerning the acoustics of indoor spaces. Therefore, there are no limits or dispositions that define the reverberation time of a room. The only exception con-cerns school, particularly classrooms and gyms. In this regard, prime ministerial decree 5/12/1997 “determination of passive Acoustic Requirements of Buildings” refers to the Circular of the ministry of public Works No. 3150 of 22 may 1967, which indicates as average reverberation time values, meas-ured at the frequencies 250-500-1000-2000 hz, the limit of 1.2 sec for classrooms (a fur-nished classroom with the presence of two people at the most) and 2.2 sec for gyms.

A further evolution is represented by dm of 11 October 2017 which refers to CAm criteria (minimum environmental criteria). These criteria concern the acoustic comfort of public environments by stating that “indoor spaces must be suitable for the achievement of the values specified for the noise indica-tors pursuant to uNI 11532”.

The uNI 11532 “Acoustics in Building - Acoustic Characteristics of Internal Confined Environments” proposes reference values of reverberation time that are considered suitable for living environments.In 2018, it was issued the part 1 that de-scribes the reference parameters, the techniques to design, determine and assess the acoustic quality of an environment. Currently, at uNI the parts of the standard relating to individual sectors, starting from the school, are under development and they will be issued within the end of 2019.

Isolspace products are conceived for the acoustic correction in any type of environment (public buildings as well as housing).

ThE pANELThe morphological characteristics of isolspace style panels have been specifically designed to obtain high sound absorbing performances with low thickness and weight. The unique characteristic of the panel is its variable density along the thickness. The different compacting of the fibres is made dur-ing the manufacturing phase, without changing the diameter of the fibres and without introducing other material. In this way, a panel with superior absorption characteristics at all frequencies is obtained. When compared to an analogous panel with constant densi-ty, it offers a significant improvement in particular at higher frequencies, which are very important espe-cially for human voice.

ChARACTERISTICS

nOn-tOxICISOLfIBTEC STL is completely non-toxic and non-allergenic, then it can be applied in any environment. It is a water-repellent fibre, which does not favour dust, mites and humidity to accumulate. It is totally handleable without any protection. The panel is thermo- bonded without any formaldehyde or phenolic binders.

nOt InFLAmmAbLEIsolspace style, in all its versions, is certified for reaction to fire class 1, EuROCLASS B-S2, d0. The tests carried out certify that isolspace style is a combustible non-flammable material, and therefore it can be applied in any space environ-ment, according to the provisions for fire preven-tion techniques.

ECOLOGICALIsolspace style is a sustainable material with a low environmental impact: the fibre ISOLfIBTEC STL is produced totally by recycling post-con-sumption material.

SHAPE AnD SIZEIsolspace style is available in standard rectangular and circu-lar shapes, with defined dimensions. Our customers can request the production of panels in dimensions, shapes and sizes out of standard, according to the requirements of laying or aesthetic requirements.

EmbOSSED FInISHEach layout, that is standard or non-standard, can be tailored by means of printouts, pictures or solid shades. Pantone colours, shades are possible, while images to be printed the only limit is the one placed by your imagination.

SPECIAL PIECESStyle is suited to the construction of special pieces, artefacts or elements with additional functionality to the acoustic correction (such as for example illumination elements), conceived by collab-orating between production, engineering and commissioning. This is pieces completely tailor-made handicraft items unique in their kind.

INSTALLATIONThe versatility of style is also expressed through its modes of laying, all characterized by an extreme sim-plicity which makes any intervention not invasive and respectful of the activities that take place in environ-ments. Laying isolspace style in fact does not require structural interventions or demolition and you in just a few simple steps. The choice should be made on the basis of the surface available inside the space that must be corrected acoustically. An important role is also played by the size of the panel, the acoustic result expected and its aesthetic.

WItH FrAmEThis solution creates a real sound-absorbing frame by choosing the aluminium frame, available in satin silver and matt black versions.

In ADHESIOnThe easiest way of laying, to be made with Velcro for repo-sitionable panels, or with glue for perma-nent interventions.

bAFFLEA laying system used especially in offices, allows the panel to be used on both surfac-es. Panel supplied with its installation kit already mounted.

ISLAnDA system suitable for creative ceiling:The panel, positioned horizontally, can be parallel or inclined with respect to the ceiling.

Isolspace sky is easy to install, replaces in a simple and fast way standard plasterboard packs without being fixed to the structure.

ThE pANELIn general, offices and public environments have a struc-ture made of modular suspended ceiling with a metal frame.With these structures in mind, isolspace sky was created, a “sound-absorbing 60 x 60 square” with 2 cm thickness that is ideal for naturally replacing plasterboard square.Isolspace sky is made of ISOLFIBTEC STL, a special recycled fibre of polyester for technical application whose density increases along the thickness. This fibre has high acoustic performance, and unlimited duration. Moreover, it is non-toxic and eco-friendly.

vERSIONSWith isolspace sky the geometrical lines meet with your crea-tivity to give life to unique and tailored chromatic nuances. Lift up thine eyes and compose the sky that you see every day with the colours that you love most.

In the standard versions isolspace sky is available in white, black and grey nuances. Neutral colours that fit for any environment.But if your idea of a workspace goes beyond standards you can choose any Pantone colour and compose your chessboard in such a way that it best expresses who you are.

vERSIONSThe range of thicknesses and sizes of isolspace industry does not leave anything to chance: the product has been designed to guarantee a high acoustic absorption even at the lowest frequencies. Isolspace industry is available in anthracite grey and white ice, with two thickness and in three sizes. On request the panel is provided with the appropriate steel cables already fitted to facilitate laying for vertical suspension.Of unlimited duration, non-toxic and ecological, this product does not release the particles and does not change its physical characteristics over time, to ensure not only its effectiveness of intervention but also of an healthy working environment.

ThE pANELIndustrial environments are by definition noisy environments: here the aesthetics is less essential, but the substance must be represented by effective solutions that allow all operators to work in healthy environments. Noise, in fact, in addition to reduce concentration and productivity, can cause health problems even irreversible to those who have pro-longed exposure.Isolspace industry is made of IsolFIBTEC STR (recycled thermo-bonded polyester technical textile fibre), appropri-ately calibrated to ensure high sound-absorbing performance in industrial large environments. It is particularly suitable for industrial environments, even in situations of diffuse or semi-diffused acoustic field, where the acoustic correction is made mainly through baffle installation on the ceiling.

Sectors of use Isolspace sky is a product developed specifically for acoustic correction of the premises in the presence of modular false ceilings. Applied on sight it allows to absorb sound waves inside particularly reverberant rooms such as offices, class-rooms, conference rooms, restaurants, etc. Isolspace sky is installed directly in the metal frame of modular ceilings without the use of glues or additional fixings.

Conditions of use Isolspace industry is a product specially developed in size and thickness sui-table for the acoustic correction of noisy environments. It is particularly suitable in industrial environments, even in situations of semi-diffused or non-diffused acoustic field, where the acoustic correction is done mainly on the ceiling by baffle installation. The sizes and the thickness that are available ensure sound absorption even at the lowest frequencies. On request the product is supplied with a suitable steel cord, already mounted to the vertical suspension.
