Level 4 drought rating for Coldwater River A Level 4 drought rating is being implemented for the Coldwater River watershed in response to extremely low stream conditions. It is the only water- shed in the province with this rating. All surface water and groundwater users, includ- ing residents, industry, farmers and municipali- ties, are be- ing urged to voluntarily reduce water consumption by 50%. With con- tinued warm, dry weather in the fore- cast, stream flows are expected to con- tinue to drop, reducing supply for water users and adding stress for fish. Low water levels can impede the pas- sage of fish, increase their susceptibility to disease, or cause stranding or death due to low oxygen and increased water temperatures. Help prevent wild- fires this long wknd With increasing temperatures and drier conditions in many parts of the province, British Columbians are urged to do everything they can to prevent wildfires on the BC Day long weekend and in the weeks ahead. While wildfire activity so far this year has been relatively normal, the month of August is typically the most active part of BC’s wildfire season. Human-caused fires are completely preventable and unnecessarily divert crucial firefighting resources from naturally occurring wild- fires. From April 1 until noon on July 31, 2019, the BC Wildfire Service responded to 579 wildfires throughout the province, 58% of which were human-caused. Level 4 drought rating for Coldwater River

A Level 4 drought rating is being implemented for the Coldwater River watershed in response to extremely low stream conditions. It is the only water-shed in the province with this rating.

All surface water and groundwater users, includ-ing residents, i n d u s t r y , farmers and munic ipal i -ties, are be-ing urged to v o l u n t a r i l y reduce water consumption by 50%.

With con-tinued warm, dry weather in the fore-cast, stream flows are expected to con-tinue to drop, reducing supply for water users and adding stress for fish.

With increasing temperatures and drier conditions in many parts of the province, British Columbians are urged to do everything they can to prevent wildfires on the BC Day long weekend and in the weeks ahead.
