MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Term 4. I hope everyone has enjoyed some quality family time. It has been lovely to be able to have a picnic and take a few longer walks as restrictions have slowly been eased over the holidays. We are excited to be preparing for the gradual return of our children to onsite learning. At this stage the return to school as outlined by the Victorian State Government and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is as follows:

TERM 4:4 OCTOBER -

WED 15 DECEMBER

The Australian Childhood Foundation has released a resource which some of the teachers have used with their classes and you may also want to read and discuss with your child.

"Everyone is tired of lockdowns – children in particular. We also know that some children are losing a sense of hope that it is never going to end. This booklet is the true story of Edna-May who got sick during the Spanish Flu and is alive today to tell her story. This booklet is for use with all children to show them that COVID will end and that life will return to some sort of normality. It is as relevant to children who are in lock down now as it is to those who live with the uncertainty of COVID all the time. The story concludes with " You are living through an important time in history right now. I wonder what you would tell people about COVID in one hundred years-time?"

To our children & staff celebrating this week:

Although the reality of COVID is not quite over, there still remains a considerable amount of uncertainty. We have all experienced this event together and we are all at various levels of transition and adjustment. The circumstances of this situation have significantly impacted students, parents and teachers alike.

Emotions during this time have been varied. For some it has been an opportunity to reflect on what is important, whilst others have embraced the opportunity to learn new things. One thing that has remained constant - the need for good parenting and supportive teachers. Both of which offer young people stability and familiarity, and are vitally important during this time of transition.

Whilst many children may be excited at the prospect of restrictions being lifted, others may be experiencing mixed emotions. Each child’s reaction will differ depending on how well they cope with stress and change. As families adjust to new routines, it will be vitally important to keep a check on our young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Encourage them to focus on the things they can control or enjoy in order for them to remain motivated and ensure their sense of belonging.

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !

This week in Prep we went on a virtual holiday to Queensland! Each day we visited a theme park or tourist attraction and then did a literacy and numeracy activity about our day! Take a look below at what we got up to on our holiday!

Monday - Take Off!Today we walked through Melbourne Airport, experienced what it is like to be in a plane and landed in Queensland. We had a look at our hotel and talked about all of the exciting things we would be doing in Queensland. For writing we wrote sentences about our plane trip or the hotel. In Math we packed our suitcases and used our hefting skills to see what was lighter, heavier and the same weight as our suitcase.

Tuesday- Movie World!Today we walked through Movie World and went on lots of different rides! We had so much fun getting splashed in the water rides and loved seeing some of our favourite characters on the parade. For math we pretended to go shopping for snacks and drinks at Movie World and showed different ways we could pay for our meal using coins and notes.

A picture of our hotel: Paradise Resort Gold Coast. Even the teachers wanted to stay here!

Wednesday - Sea World!Today we walked through Sea World and went on lots of different rides! We had so much fun getting splashed in the water rides! Our favourite part was watching the dolphin show! We had so many questions - How do dolphins see underwater? How do the dolphins jump so high? How can I ride a dolphin? For math we learnt about positional language. We read a sentence about where a dolphin should be in the picture and drew our dolphin to match.

Thursday - Australia Zoo!Today we walked through Australia Zoo and saw lots of different animals! We learnt all about what animals like to eat, and how the zoo has a special animal hospital to care for injured wildlife. Our favourite part was watching the crocodile show! We were amazed at how high the crocodile could jump to eat its food! For math we learnt about positional language and mapping skills. We looked at a map of Australia Zoo and then created our very own zoo maps with our favourite animals!

Friday - The Great Barrier ReefToday we snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef! We saw so many incredible sea creatures! For literacy we wrote a postcard about our holiday to Queensland.

Welcome back to Term 4. We are really looking forward to reconnecting with our friends and celebrating the rest of

our school year of learning.

This week in Maths we were learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Check out our 2D shape pictures and meet some of our

Crazy Shape Monsters!

We also investigated the features and properties of shapes and were 2D shape detectives at home!

What shapes can you find at home?

This Wacky Wednesday the theme was ‘What I want to be when I am older’. The students in Year 3 and 4 are all such wonderful, brave, resilient, funny and strong individuals. I am sure with a lot of hard work and passion they can achieve whatever they wish for. Here is what they had to say in 3/4M:

Eloise: I would like to be a clothing designer.

Noah: I want to be a soccer player.

Shelby: I want to be a soccer player, builder and an actor.

Loriana: I want to be a doctor and perform surgeries to help people.

Jennelle: I will be an artist.

Mia: I want to be a waitress.

Azaria: I want to be a Vet. Pets are like my family and it would be a dream come true to take care of them.

We welcome everyone back to term 4. We are counting down the days to when we will all be together onsite with our friends and teachers. In the seniors, we start each day with a prayer, and this week the children were asked to write their own prayers. Below are some beautiful prayers written by the children.
