Bennett Mountain High School MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL TESAR

Falling Back to School We are now in the fall and it is important for our students to dress accord-ingly. Our old building experiences temperature fluctuations from room to room, so I would recommend bringing a warm layer such as a sweatshirt. Bennett Mountain sweatshirts are available for purchase if interested. Reminders about upcoming dates and events are shared via Blackboard on a weekly basis, but here are some of the highlights:

• The first block of study will end October 11th. Bennett students need to make sure they finish the block strong by attending school and com-pleting their coursework.

• There will be no school for students on the 14th or the 15th as we enroll new students and the second block of study will start on the 16th.

• Parent-Teacher Conferences are on October 17th. I will send out more information regarding conferences over the Black-board messaging system and post information on our school website. As always…RESPECT THE BEAR! Stehvn Tesar, Principal Bennett Mountain High School

TESSELLATIONS IN MATH

Mrs. Johnson’s Integrated Math class is exploring Geometry with the creative

and patterned side of math. They created tessellations, which are shapes that fit

perfectly together like a puzzle or tiling, to show how translations, rotations, and

reflections happen in every day life.

JUNIOR HIGH FIELD TRIP

Bennett Mountain Junior High students traveled into Boise for their first field trip of the year. Students went to

Zoo Boise and completed a scavenger hunt while exploring. The students also fed a sloth a delicious breakfast of

mealworms!

After lunch in the park, students ventured to the Aquarium of Boise, where they were able to interact with a vari-

ety of critters. The students fed seaweed to fish right out of their hands, and a few lucky ones were able to feed

some hungry stingrays! The students listened to the marine biologist talk about the aquarium’s variety of sea

creatures and the colorful personalities they exhibit for their caretakers. Who knew marine animals had such

character?

Stay tuned next month for a recap of our upcoming field trip to the Idaho Old Penitentiary!

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING COMES TO BMHS Several of the Bennett Mountain School staff attended training in Dallas, Texas this past summer which al-

lows us to include computer programming classes for all ages. AP Computer Science uses MIT App Inventor

to teach computer science skills. One of the first assignments students had, was creating an app called a

Sound Board. When images on the screen are pressed, a sound plays. Students were supposed to have three

different images and a sound for each image. Once the app was

designed, then students had to write a program to make it work.

Kekoa went above and beyond by creating an app with multiple

images and sounds that represented and sounded like a keyboard.

FIRST ANNUAL NEEWOLLAH Students & staff had so much fun at the Oregon Trail Games last year

that we decided to create an annual event that features friendly compe-

titions between mentorship groups. We also decided to hold it a little

earlier in the year in hopes of enjoying more clement weather!

courage to continue that counts.” ― Winston S. Churchill
