In the world take always the position of the giver. Give everything and look for no return. Give love, give help, give service, give any little thing you can, but keep out barter. Make no conditions and none will be imposed. Let us give out of our own bounty, just as God gives to us.”

ValueLabs Foundation (VLF)

At the heart of our organization, lies this realization of our responsibility towards the society that has given us our identity. Arjun Rao, our invincible baton, having been associated with social welfare initiatives from a very long time, is inspiration enough to the whole family. Under his aegis, we support causes like Health, Poverty, Education for the underprivileged, Blood donation and many more.

As Arjun says, ” When we go out of our way to help with causes that are beyond ourselves, I believe that we will become that much better as individuals. The same thing holds true at the company level too. As we continue to grow at the rapid rate of growth we have seen over the past few years, we will make increasing budgetary allocations towards Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.”

Our CSR activities are based on improving the below mentioned areas:

Health care

Social awareness

Education

Future of India (Child welfare)

Environmental awareness

VLF: Healthcare

One of the most heart-rending sights on our streets: the mentally-ill roadside destitute, living off the streets, whom you’ve always wanted to help but didn’t know how or where to turn to. Lonely, haggard, unkempt, disheveled people stripped of all human dignity, but humans nevertheless.

Shraddha program:

VLF and Shraddha Rehabilitation foundation have been working together since April’09

Destitute patients are picked up from the road by the volunteers and sent to Karjat, Maharashtra for treatment.

These destitute patients are mainly victims of mental illness like schizophrenia and split personality

All the patients are treated by using an approach of custodial care inspired by Baba Amte’s Anandvan

Provide rehabilitation through occupational participation in a range of agriculture, vegetable cultivation, dairy farming, poultry and other activities.

The institution produces what it consumes, treats the mentally ill with dignity, simultaneously preserving or building daily living skills.

These patients are later reunited with their families who have long thought of them as lost or even dead and entrusting their care with the ones who love these patients

VLF: Social Awareness

Braille Without Borders

In May 1998, The founders Braille Without Borders, Sabriye Tenberken (German) and Paul Kronenberg (Dutch) left Europe to establish the Rehabilitation and Training Centre for the Blind, Tibet, starting with the preparatory school for elementary school children.

Braille Without Borders empowers blind people from these countries so they themselves can set up projects and schools for other blind people. In this way the concept can be spread across the globe so more blind and visually impaired people have access to education and a better future.

VLF: Education

Nanhi Kali program

Education of girl children & encouraging Indians to “give back” in a focused manner helped begin Nanhi Kali, a sponsorship program, where individuals could support the education of a girl child in India.

11

Project Nanhi Kali currently supports the education of over 57,000 underprivileged girl children

The project has witnessed a significant increase in both enrolment of girls and attendance of girls in schools.

Drop out rates of girls have been curtailed to less than 10% within the programme compared to national level figures of 30% at Primary level and 70% at the Secondary School level.

Further assessments done by a third party have reported an increase in learning outcomes ranging from 40% improvement in tribal Chhattisgarh to 78% in Mumbai slums within a period of a year.

VLF: Education

Vande Mataram Foundation

VMF works towards the improvement of education in rural areas

12

VLF has partnered with Ramakrishna Math and VMF to start Sri Sharadha Bala Sanskara Kendra (SSBSK) SSBSK simultaneously addresses two crucial problems:

Empowering the girl child

Instilling moral and ethical values among the children, by providing them with the required ‘sanskara’

SSBSKs are run by a volunteer:

Usually a local, needy, Intermediate-pass or Degree-dropout young woman

They conducting daily classes after school hours for about 30-40 younger children

In the process, she is empowered and also encouraged to pursue her own formal education.

VLF: Other activities

We work closely with the Ramakrishna Math,

Part-financing the social schemes that they are running in different parts of the country.

Participants in their schemes to provide drinking water solutions in more than 100 villages.

Helped them during the Uttarakhand flood relief activities

Closely associated with Rural Development Foundation (RDF)

Regular donations to charitable organizations, blood-donations, association with numerous NGOs that support different causes, and sponsorships of deserving students in colleges are some of the ways we give back to society.

We also have various environmental awareness programs to educate people on the increasing concern of environmental pollution and conduct various programs like paper and plastic recycling etc.

VLF: Upcoming project - Khan Academy

Khan Academy Videos

The Khan Academy is a non-profit educational website created in 2006 by educator Salman Khan, a graduate of MIT and Harvard Business School.

The stated mission is to provide "a free world-class education for anyone anywhere“

The website provides a free access to a video library with over 4100 videos in various topic areas and over 244 million lessons.

VLF is working on converting Khan Academy videos to Telugu and distribute amongst schools from rural areas:

The plan is to convert the intellectual treasury of information from English to regional languages (Telugu)

Distribute the CDs of the videos with the required infrastructure across various schools from rural areas

As a trial, we have already shared the videos with RDF in English with the required infrastructure and have noticed a significant change in the understanding of the sessions.
