They will study different cases around the world and gain knowledge of human rights and what different organisations do to help out. Thinking skills: Synthesis: I can put together the things I have learned and look at the big picture Social Skills: Group decision making: I can work well with others in my group to make decisions. Communication Skills: Listening: I can listen to direction and others to collect information. Self Management Skills: Organization: I can plan and carry out what I have planned well. Research Skills: Formulating Questions: I can think up relevant questions Collecting Data: I can gather information from different places. Students take their learning to express empathy and appreciation for the problems around their community and the world. Important Dates Unit Vocabulary Mathematics Number : Students will explore how the number system works and how it developed through time. Language Arts Reading : Students will make text to text and text to world connections to explore the lines of inquiry. Students will be exposed to various media such as videos, books and articles which will be discussed and analyzed. Reading strategies like synthesising and looking for important information will be developed through the research process. Writing : Students will develop specific language to compare and contrast different media and situations. Viewing and Presenting and Listening and Speaking : Students will evaluate the way they present ideas both visually and orally. They will inquire into different forms to present work. Students will look at listening strategies to focus during class discussions as well as group work discussions. They will also conduct interviews to develop their listening skills. Students will evaluate different sources of information to gain a deeper understanding of the central idea and lines of inquiry. Library Tools: Students will learn to use storybird to create stories using their knowledge about migration. Music: Students will be learning how music from different cultures has mixed because of migration to create new musical genres.
