Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. Helen Keller The deϐinition of teamwork is combined efforts, or actions of a group, to achieve a common goal or purpose. Teamwork is core to the success of therapeutic riding and every part of the team is important. Therapeutic riding requires a team to be successful and the CDSCL Therapeutic Riding Program is incredibly fortunate to have an awesome team who are well supported by the Creston Valley community. The riders, by themselves, with family, caregivers, by community bus or by school bus, arrive for their lessons ready and willing to learn and improve. They show courage, patience and tenacity. The horses work week after week giving their best to the riders and showing the qualities that only a horse can show. All the horses in the program are carefully chosen for the riders to succeed. The horse handlers use skill to lead the horse successfully for the rider making sure the rider and horse stay safe and also at the same time not inferring with the rider’s learning and abilities. The sidewalkers physically assist the riders with the various holds that are needed at different times but they also offer comfort, friendship and reassurance. The Instructors help the riders learn to ride safely with a program of personally tailored riding progression. Each member of the team doing their part of the process is the recipe for success. The qualities of the teams in the program are awe inspiring and are fundamental to the ongoing thriving of the program. Christine Ross, Head Instructor, CanTRA Coach, EC Competition Coach Helen Keller was an author and was the ϔirst deaf/ blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Did you know?

Ongoing education is required for all CanTRA instructors. Christine Ross, our head instructor, does a fabulous job of providing relevant educational opportunities for instructors, staff and volunteers and making them available in Creston.

Sandra is a sought after clinician and the program is very fortunate to host her clinics. Thank you Sandra!

Did you know? No horse experience is necessary to volunteer!

Some riders need up to 3 volunteers to help them ride.

No lessons are done if the weather is too hot or too wet!

Our horses are like huge, well behaved puppy dogs.

Are you a high school student who needs community service hours? Come out and volunteer with the horses!
