What’s “Eikancho”? Eikancho is like a catalog used in Edo period. People in edo offered Kihachijo as taxes. They use Eikancho to choose designs and patterns.

Pick up Meyu Kobo Meyu Yamashita started the dye-workshop. And her daughter, Yaoko learned how to wave and developed their business. They became able to make stronger silk by using new machine. Figure 5 previous loom (using hand) Figure 6 new loom(using feet)

Story of HACHIJO Taiko touches tradition and culture -We feel Hachijo drum by five senses-

《History》

Japanese drum introduced to Hachijo Island by Prisoner from

outside of island 200years ago. Some people say that Hachijo drum

is started by them when they used drum stick instead of their Katana.

On the other hand, it says that is started by women of Hachijo

Island to spend their time.

《About HACHIJO drum》

The sprite of playing Hachijo drum is freedom. We were the

beginners but the members of drum club help us in playing

the drum. In actually, the way to play the drum is very

important.

Who played the drum it need two players: 1, melody player 2, base

player.

The melody player listen to the drum beats of base player and

synchronized there beats.

《How to playing》

When we play Hachijo drum, we have to let stick parallel to the surface of drum and make sure

to not damage it, also we have to keep our legs spreading and just feel the rhythm by using

our knee. Also, the player decides how to move his body every time depended on the free

performance. It is not that they play the drum just freely but they can combine the established

the rhythm which they decided free first.

I want to convey my soul

to everyone.

We performed in the nature! The

performance by professional people

was very nice!
