Which Platform? Not all platforms are created equal.

By Kersten Anderson

In case you didn’t know... Facebook now has nearly 1.2 billion total users.

45% of B2B marketers have gained a customer through LinkedIn.

B2B marketers who use Twitter generate, on average, twice as many leads as those who don’t.

70% of brands have a presence on Google+.

People spend, on average, 4X more time on Tumblr and Pinterest than they do on Twitter.

Where to Start....

Social Media Basics

Social media can be VERY time consuming, which is why picking the right platforms to spend your time is so essential.

Just like Wal Mart, you can’t be all things to all people...pick a handful of platforms where your customers are located to invest your time.

The type of industry you are in or are promoting will determine which platforms are best for you.

LinkedIn Best for personal branding of individuals; such as employees, executives, and business owners.

Do NOT expect exceeding growth from company pages within LinkedIn as a small business.

Unless you are a large brand, obtaining a large following that is not B2B or career based will be difficult -- not impossible but will require time.

There is limited functionality to a LinkedIn Company Page.

Post a professional profile picture.

Update ALL relevant work experience.

Update contact information.

Use keywords in your tagline (its SEO friendly).

Always link back any other social media accounts you have.
