August 26, 2018 Title: Which Side Are You On? By: Joe Wells There is a great contrast between those who want to go to heaven and those who could care less. Just as light and dark, hot and cold are seen as complete opposites, so it is with those who are walking as enemies of the cross and those who are walking in the footsteps of Jesus. In Philippians 3: 18-21, the apostle Paul explains very effectively just exactly what these two distinct sides look like. He begins with those who are enemies of the cross and says, “For many, of whom I have often told you and now t ell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things (vs. 18-19).” Let’s look at those one more time: 1) Enemies of the cross 2) Headed for destruction eternally 3) Doing whatever they can to please themselves 4) Think their sin is a badge of honor 5) Only thinking about the here-and-now Then Paul draws a picture of what the opposite of these enemies looks like. “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself (vs. 20-21).” This side is characterized by: 1) A recognition of their citizenship in heaven 2) An eagerness for the second coming of Jesus 3) An anticipation of their existence in glory What extremes! One is living for what they can get out of today, and the other is living for what will come in eternity. Which side are you on?

Title: Which Side Are You On? By: Joe Wells There is a great contrast between those who want to go to heaven and those who could care less. Just as light and dark, hot and cold are seen as complete opposites, so it is with those who are walking as enemies of the cross and those who are walking in the footsteps of Jesus. In Philippians 3: 18-21, the apostle Paul explains very effectively just exactly what these two distinct sides look like. He begins with those who are enemies of the cross and says, “For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.
