COVID-19 Snap Lockdown

I would like to thank all of you for your cooperation with the snap lock down that occurred last week due to a Covid outbreak. Given that we had an hours notice that the school would close for three days, I believe our whole school community did very well in the circumstances. We have reviewed our response to the announcement and we believe we will be better equipped to head into another lockdown if such a thing should occur.

Start Up Interviews

Thank you to all those families who participated in our Start Up Interviews last Thursday. The feedback that we have had indicates that families appreciated the individual meeting with their child’s teacher and this style of meeting at the start of the year was an improvement over the start of the year Grade meetings that we have held previously.

School Council Nominations

Nominations for School Council close next Thursday 4th March at 3:50 p.m. I have included the blurb about School Council in this newsletter. If you are interested in being a part of School Council can you please ring Katrina or Liz in the Office.

Evacuation Practice

We will be running an evacuation practice at school sometime next week. The evacuation will involve all of our grades and we will meet at our designated evacuation sport on the lawn area in front of the Drive Through. This evacuation practice is part of our yearly OHS planning schedule.

Prep Students 2021

All of our new Prep children will start school five days a week from next Monday. We are looking forward to seeing them at school for a full week next week.

Government Tutor Program

Eaglehawk North’s response to the Governments Tutor Learning Initiative is in full swing with our Tutors Shirley Symons and Sandra Dalrymple targeting groups of children who, based on the data we have been able to collect, need some extra support after our two Remote Learning experiences of 2020. If your child is involved in the program during 2021, Shirley or Sandra will be in touch with you to explain how our tutor program will work.

My Good Read

My Good Read this week is Four Feet, Two Sandals written by Karen Lynn Williams and Khadra Mohammed (illustrated by Doug Chayka) tells the touching story of two girls in a refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan. Four Feet, Two Sandals is suitable for readers from Years 5-7.

Breakfast Program

Breakfast club is back up and running on a Monday and Wednesday morning’s 8:30-8:55am. We served over 80 meals this week and the kids are loving the new menu. A big thank you to Kiwanis Bendigo family Hub for donating the plastic plates, cups and cutlery to our wonderful program.

Music News Eaglehawk North Primary School offers a range of music lessons students can take during school hours.

We currently offer guitar, drums and piano. Guitar lessons are run on Mondays, drum lessons will run on

Friday and piano to be advised. Cost of the lesson range from $10.00 - $30.00 per lesson.

Choir News

Choir this year is open to interested students from grades 3 to 6.

Choir sessions will be run of a Tuesday afternoon from 2.15pm

to 3.15pm. A number of interested students have already

returned their “Expression of Interest” forms to me. Auditions

will be conducted over the next few weeks and our final choir

group finalised as soon as possible.

Any further students who are keen to be part of the Choir this

year, are welcome to collect an application form from me in the

Music Room.

$250 Power Saving Bonus Program – FAQs

On the 17 November 2020 the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio announced a once-off $250 Power Saving Bonus to help eligible households with their energy bills as a part of the Victorian Government’s Household Energy Savings Package.

What is the $250 Power Saving Bonus? The $250 Power Saving Bonus is a once-off payment available to Victorian households with at least one JobSeeker, youth allowance recipient or pensioner.

All pension types will be eligible – age pension, disability support pension, carer payment and single parenting payment. The payments will be available from 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2022 and payments would be limited to one per eligible household. 

What do people need to do to be eligible? Victorian households will need to visit the Victorian Energy Compare website between 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2022. To be eligible to claim the $250 Power Saving Bonus, Victorians must be able to meet the following eligibility criteria.

Be from a household with at least one JobSeeker, youth allowance recipient or pensioner. All pension types would be eligible – age pension,

disability support pension, carer payment and single parenting payment.  The claimant must have a Victorian electricity bill for their household. When can eligible households apply? Eligible households can apply on the Victorian Energy Compare website from 1 February 2021.

Is there a limit on how many payments can be made and if so, is it a matter of first come, first served? Eligible households will need to apply for a payment before the program closes on 31 January 2022.

Can more than one person per household claim the $250? No, the bonus will only be issued to one per household.

What if I'm a renter? If you rent and meet the eligibility requirements, then you can claim the $250 Power Saving Bonus.

What to do if you don’t have access to a computer? If you don’t have access to a device like a computer, tablet or smart phone, or a connection to the internet at home, there are other options availa-ble to you.

Over the phone support: You can call 1800 830 029 to access the newly established Energy Assistance Program and receive one-on-one assis-tance over the phone from an energy adviser. You can also call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 if you are experiencing financial diffi-culty relating to your utility bills.

Friends and family members: If someone you know has a computer with the internet, ask if you can visit them and use it to access Victori-

an Energy Compare.

Your local library: Many libraries offer free or cheap computer and internet access. Call ahead to check if you need to book time to use the

library’s computer. Your local neighbourhood house or community centre: Neighbourhood houses or community centres are a great resource, and even if they don’t have computer with internet access, they might be able to help you find one nearby.

The Victorian Energy Compare team will be working with community groups across Victoria to make sure all concession card holders receive the right level of support to access the $250 Power Saving Bonus.

What is the Energy Assistance Program? The Energy Assistance Program helps eligible Victorians save money on their energy bills and get advice on energy issues, including reducing energy use at home. The program is delivered by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Australian Energy Foundation and Uniting, independent of energy companies. Visit the Brotherhood of St. Laurence website or call 1800 830 029 to get assistance with your energy bills today.

What to do if you’re having trouble entering information from your bill to claim the bonus? If you are having trouble lodging your Power Saving Bonus claim:

Phone support: You can call 1800 830 029 to access the newly established Energy Assistance Program and receive one-on-one assistance over the phone from an energy adviser. Alternatively, you can call the department’s contact centre on 136 186.

Online: You can get help in real time by using the Victorian Energy Compare website live chat function.

Email: You can email our support team and they can help you navigate the online claim process. They can be contacted at info.vec@delwp.vic.gov.au.

What other options are there to support households? If you are having trouble paying your energy bills, help is available including one-on-one support for eligible households experiencing financial hardship, financial counselling and online energy focused webinars.
