Betty Granger Reid
My contact with Betty Granger laid was ~diately
following the primary. I explained we were in the process
of finalizing programs for the seneral election period and
had, at the time, nothing definite about which to write her
but that we would follow up with her later.
It was then referred to Herb lCalmbach. Dick Ports
also received a letter from her, which he referred to Herb.
Herb wrote her on September 11th. She is not a secretary
and there basn't been a spot on the staff .. physically or
financially - where she could be employed. Herb advised her
of the status quo, and did say he would like very much to meet
her and hoped she would stop into the headquarters when she
was next in Los Angeles.

Dear Bob:

As you will quickly realize. hare ia someone who was extremely fthoughtful. and took the time and trouble to follow through ...'"
in setting the tape of Dr. Lantos' remarks to us. We haven't heard it as yet. but it probably does have some usable material.
My thought in passina this correspondence along to you is to suggeat you get in touch with Miss Blunden prOlllptly. and fin d out whether she might be interested in organizing the Teachers for Nixon in Alameda County. You might also attempt to determine whether Dr. Roderick would be interested in coming out openly or privately for IN.
In any event. this follow-up should be accomplished without delay. and I'll appreciate your handling it and letting me know the result of your coatact.
Many thanks.

M.C. for Telethons
Dick Powell is not ab1. to be the emcee. nor does he f.e1 h. will be able to appear on the Telethons.
Actually. we ....r. not conaiderina him for emcee. but rather aa the chief star and procurer of other atars.
The man we were considering vas Bill Leyden. with Jack Linkletter aa the other possibility. Neither one will be able to take on the aaai&nment.
We have therefore decided to get a top profe••iona1 announcer with good emcee ability on a paid baa18 to use as our back-up emc.. for all the Telethons. W. will thua be assured of always havtna someone available who will be handling thin&s our way.
After careful auditions and screening. the man .e1ected for thia aasi.pDDent ia llax Mue from San Diego who is dedicated to you. extremely competent. and I thiDk will do an excellent job. Be will be in the office early this next ....ek and I hope you will have an opportunity to meet him.
We will of cour.. plan to have several top stars on each Telethon. and they vi11 perform some of the emc.. chores. However. I am sure you will recopize the need for our having our own man on hand at all times.
