The way to enterprise web applicationsWhat is an enterprise web application? Mostly it describes a multi-tier applicationwith a web user interface frontend. For the different tiers there are some differentarchitecture solutions, implementations and frameworks available. But for the userinterface there are solutions like SharePoint and other frameworks available allnot designed to give the user the feeling of a desktop application.

Second user interface problem are the different end devices. To use an iPad fordisplaying a simple form is sometimes a problem. At the moment you can browseto any shop and you get a feeling of the problem as soon you want to add yourchosen item to the basket if you dont have the thinnest fingers you will touchanything but the right button!The third user interface problem is the content. How is your feeling to read thenews of the world on popular internet pages with your Smartphone? Afterzooming and moving the content around maybe you can read some fragments ofthe content. Some provider of news and other internet services have reacted anddesigned a special content page for Smartphone users but with a different URL!

The fourth user interface problem is based on the third but different in the termof usage. Take a look at all these managers with their iPads trying to see their in-ternal business data based on SharePoint or other systems. The same thing hap-pens the content is not readable in one flow or the images with the businesscharts are not visible. Mostly all content is designed for 1024x768px but someTabletPCs have smaller resolutions.

The fifth user interface problem will come in the future. Business collaborationsare common in the future also on home smart devices. You will have your energysteering part on the same screen as your climatic or heating system user interface.It is necessary that your energy and your heating system distributor can add dy-namically their user interface to the same browser based screen.

The sixth user interface problem is also a future thing. More and more userswould like to have no more differences between desktop and browser applica-tions. That makes it necessary to have real single page applications on the brow-ser. What you see at the moment on the internet is far away from single page ap-plications because mostly internet pages are based on CMS systems. At the mo-ment no system supports real single page applications the simple usage of AJAXis far away from a real single page web application!

Mostly system architecture and system design forget that user acceptance of asystem is also based on the user interface. In the enterprise web application en-vironment user interfaces are also not really an issue. That is maybe one of thefacts which make it not really attractive to build solutions for user interfaces. So-lutions based on required plugins like Silverlight or Flash do not really support theuser and the support team. To get the best user acceptance it is necessary to baseon common technologies without any other additional effort before starting touse any application.Interesting is the fact that all listed problems are not based on technical problemsor missed basic technic solutions. All current browsers are ready to run a singlepage application! All browsers are able to make it easy for web applications to de-tect the device and the screen resolution.The CeTris framework supports developers since 6 years to build single page webapplications.
