The contextWeb Signage can be utilized as a multi-platform information tool in the public administration. Itprovides real-time communication about the status of public services and helps improve efficiencyand transparency in the dialogue with users and citizens.

Perceived quality and communicationIn the public service environment, organizational and environmental quality is essential forassessing the quality perceived by the user. It implies the ability of conveying information on thelevel of service coordination, as well as efficient access time-schedules and ambient comfort. Deadtime is a critical step for any public institution (be it a hospital, a municipality or a transportationcompany). Within that context, the delivery of prompt and targeted information through descriptiveimages and icons testifies the institutions attention and care towards the user. This testifies astrong commitment to build a bidirectional dialogue focused on the assessment of qualitystandards and audience appreciation.

Multi-channel integrated communicationThanks to the diffusion of the Internet, the presence on the Web has been established by almostevery organizations in the public service environment. Therefore, integration between the Web andDigital Signage represents an added value for communication, which becomes real where usersare physically present. The XML communication standard enables Web Signage to connect to anyon-line data source through the integration and optimization of multichannel projects, which arealso capable of preserving a pre-existing investment.

The Meditel caseMeditel is a medical center specialising in different areas. It operates in the field of private healthcare in cooperation with the national health care system. The Digital Signage project has beenrealised within the center in Saronno. Its principal aim is to be a communication project for thepatients.

The contentThe content covers the communication of services in the health care segment, as well as auxiliaryservices within the wellness area and personal services. The development of the program, whichhas been realised by Tv.B, a Milanese media center, is focused on the implementation ofqualitative contents for the Digital Signage. It is characterised by contents that are continuouslyupdated by a dedicated editorial staff. They also plan the transmission of entertaining elements,such as film excerpts, quiz, panorama, historical information and the weather.

Visually presented information

The program is maintained by the Media Center Tv.B and is played in the central area. The layoutof the display is divided into two secondary areas, which are fully managed by the communication

managers in Meditel center. A dedicated site area gives an overview on offered specializedservices. The listing contains information on the names of the doctors, times and specifications onthe treatment rooms. A ticker on the lower part of the page shows current news on the center, i.e.on activities, initiatives and services. This information is gathered directly from the homepage.

Benefits and conclusionsThe desired main objective is the flexible management of contents. It is realized by the simpleimplementation of updates, thanks to the web-based interface, but also by the competition and theindependence of the competing advertising maker. The latter is made possible by the multi-userand multi-role structure of Web Signage.

Interoperability of dataThe approach of the interoperability of Web Signage is enabled by the communication standardXML. It makes it possible to implement information published on the centers webpage for thecreation of messages. The consolidation of the data on the portal and the displays is doneautomatically and in real-time. The communication of the multi platform is created and publishedwithout any additional efforts.

Integrated CMSThe features of the CMS module were integrated Web Signage in order to meet the requirementsof updates for structured data. They enable the operators of the center to apply the information andto update it effortless and in real-time. For this purpose they use a specially created account andinternet access.
