Big Rock has accumulated over 100 years’ experience in the industry, offering a comprehensive suite of construction, fabrication and maintenance services to the oil & gas industry in western Canada. Our Whitecourt office is based in a 12,600 square foot fabrication facility with 6 bays primed to accommodate all projects. Big Rock is a leader in polyethylene installation; maintaining the largest fleet of track fusion machines in Alberta. It is one of our specialties.

WE WILL do everything that is reasonable and practical to ensure that adequate resources including trained personnel are provided in order to effectively implement the quality systems.

We work under the guidance of written measures that require documentation to ensure that all construction installations and shop fabrications are satisfactorily completed in accordance with approved specification and all applicable codes.Big Rock Supervisors are trained in the Quality Management of ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662, CSA Z245 of the Oil & Gas Pipeline Systems.

EnvironmentBig Rock recognizes that construction affects surrounding cultural resources and socio-economic structures. Therefore it is our legal and moral responsibility to consult all pertinent parties to ensure that decisions are made with full consideration of the end results.

We also require all of our sub-contractors to maintain the same level of environmental protection.

Curtis Glidden, President and CEOCurtis Glidden has been an entrepreneur for over 25 years working in such industries as the oil & gas sector and railroad construction. Curtis has a reputation for starting companies from scratch and building them to be successful corporations through high quality standards with a safe environment for his employees. Curtis has a Power Engineering Degree and Pre-Technology Certificate from NBCC. In 1994 Curtis started Riverside Rails which was a successful rail road construction company that was sold to SCT Rail in 2004. In 2005 Curtis formed the company G & B Pipeline that specialized in pipeline construction in Alberta focusing on poly pipe fusion, G & B was known as the #1 fusing company in Alberta at the time with 40 employees. In 2007 there were 5 companies bidding on G & B which was acquired by Strike Energy Services. In 2007 Curtis acquired SCT Rail from James Glidden which had 3 employees at the time. Curtis took the company from a rail road salvage company to become the largest railway contractor in Atlantic Canada. In 2014 SCT was the #1 contactor for Canadian National Railway performing rail butt welding in Canada. In 2014 SCT had 120 employees. In 2015 SCT was acquired by A & B Rail from Edmonton Alberta who is under the umbrella of Torquest Partners an investment firm in Toronto, Canada. In 2007 Curtis branded the company Big Rock Oilfield Services Ltd and now in 2015 has set his sights on growing Big Rock to be his next largest company.

Tracy Glidden, Vice PresidentTracy Glidden comes to Big Rock with over 25 years’ experience in office administration and office management. Tracy has been very instrumental in all the companies Curtis has started and grown to be successful corporations. She started her office career as receptionist at the age of 17 and worked her way to the top as the controller and office manager of all Curtis’s companies. Her previous roll before Big Rock was Vice President of SCT Rail which has 120 employees. Tracy’s keen ability for finances and management has made her and Curtis a very successful team.

Shelbe Glidden, Business DevelopmentShelbe Glidden comes to Big Rock with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology. During high school Shelbe excelled as an excellent athlete and leader playing soccer, volleyball and basketball. Shelbe received a scholarship to UPEI after being scouted at her provincial finals where she won the MVP award. Shelbe has 3 years’ experience in promotions and advertising with Mosaic representing such companies as Labatt, Smirnoff, Telus and the Super Bowl. Shelbe has always shown strong leadership and excels at a challenge.

Poppy Guloien, Marketing ManagerPoppy Guloien moved to Calgary in 2013 to join the oil & gas sector after three years of working in Vancouver in solution sales in the parking industry. Prior to that she lived in the Cayman Islands where she was the Director of Catering, Convention Services and Sales at the Westin Casuarina Resort on Seven Mile Beach. She brings extensive sales, marketing and customer service experience to the team.

Gordon Scott, Project ManagerGordon Scott has worked in the Oil and Gas Industry since 1969 and progressed through experience to the role of Pipeline Superintendent with companies like Sundown Resources and Aron Oilfield Services. He later applied his considerable expertise as an inspector working for companies such as Penn West, Paramount, Perpetual and Plains Midstream. Throughout his career he was worked on pipeline projects all over Canada. Gord has spent the last three years working exclusively for TransCanada Pipelines as a General Inspector on the Timberwolf project and is now looking forward to leading the team at Big Rock Oilfield Services Ltd.

Ross Guitard, Quality Control ManagerA savvy leader devoted to developing a quality culture though ownership of ones work and educating the workforce of the downstream effects of mistakes and how to prevent them. With a welding technology foundation and continuous learning in the projects management and six sigma disciplines he is constantly refining, streamlining and improving the way we execute our projects.
