WHO IS FIAR, AND WHAT DEVELOPS?

FIAR is a particular institution of social solidarity, with

recognized public utility, founded and formed by

volunteers, whose mission is to convey the Christian

witness to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families,

including children, as victims of the incarceration of

parents, providing also the prisoners assistance spiritual,

moral, social, material, cultural and inclusive community,

to contribute to their personal dignity.

FIAR takes responsibility to bring the movement of the

voluntary work in prisons nationally, valuing their

aspirations and activities, assuming the role of spokesman

to the competent authorities and other institutions of

civil society, to contribute to the finding of solutions.

FIAR would like to be the center of convergence of the

Movement of Volunteers of Prisons (MVP) at the national

level and its spokesman to the competent authorities and

other institutions of civil society for the protection and

enhancement of the Person of the prisoner, or in prison

environment, and being full and dignified social

reintegration.

FIAR respects, obviously, just the autonomy and specific

characteristics of each group of the MVP, but aims to

stimulate a fraternal spirit among all, and the inter-

working groups and groups with itself. The union makes the

force.

FIAR, within its capabilities, search:

a) support the prisoners through visits and monitoring. The

volunteers will visit to share, listen and learn, bearingin mind that "there is more joy in giving than in

receiving." The visitors can create groups (informal)

discussions with the inmates about the values of life,

encouraging forums for sharing and dialogue;

b) support the families of inmates, working in the

approximation of the prisoner and his family and the

resolution of any problems that prevent or hinder the

relationship;

c) contribute to social integration and community of the

prisoner, sensitizing the society to the need for the

duration of imprisonment is not only seen in the light of a

punitive justice, but should rather open up the design of

higher restorative justice, which aims the recovery of the

full human person of the offender, both during and after

completion of sentence or a detention;

d) develop projects and activities in areas of research and

training, the volunteers who value and contribute directly

or indirectly for the rehabilitation of prisoners.

programs for greater impact that PFI has promoted are those

related to restorative justice - the cornerstone of the

spirit that PFI demand and live broadcast of programs and

has prepared for implementation.

FIAR advocates the pursuit of programs under a vision that

goes beyond the concept of crime and consequent application

of punishment, this is, beyond the limited contours of

punitive justice, as directed by a Restorative Justice

which places its emphasis the repair of the evil caused by

the offender / abuser, the reapprochement between the

offender and victim and the relationship of both with the

Community's concern. We also offer the possibility of

change within all the players in the process.

Are mainly visits to prisons, houses of the transition

the programs of the Angel Tree, Tree Project -Filemon and

Sycamore, and finally the prison community based on faith.

As to the latter, the emphasis goes to the methodology of

the Brazilian APAC prison, watched and put into practice by

of São José dos Campos (State of S. Paulo), which for more

than 30 years has improved in the light of experience.
