tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, and swore in his wrath that they should be scattered upon

all the face of the earth; and according to the word of the Lord the people were scattered.

Moses truly was called by God and was a type for the life and mission of the Savior.

Moses (Bible Dictionary – Chronology) Born 64 +/- years after Joseph dies. Moses is brought up

as a Pharaoh’s son and to be a Pharaoh (a God). Nobody and no thing was as great as a Pharaoh.

JST Genises 50:24-29; Exodus 1:16 The sayings of Joseph of old must have been known to the

scribe of the Pharaoh, because the male babies were not to live. (Same as in the time of the Savior’s

birth).

Exodus 2:11 Moses’ heritage was greater than his environment. When he was 40 yrs old (Acts

7:30) he fled to Midian; an area on the east side of the Gulf of Aqaba. (see 1999 Bible map #2).

Moses 1:25 Moses is given power “stronger than many waters; for they shall obey thy command

as if thou wert God”. Exodus 14:15-16 Moses prays evidently for direction on what to do about the Red

Sea that stretched out before him. “Why cryest thou unto me?” Reminding him of his power he already

had. Then in patience vs. 16 tells him “lift up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide

it”. Note that he did not go to the writings of the preceding patriarchs (the scriptures of his day) to see

what Noah did when he had a water problem. He had new revelation and direction.

Helaman 8:11 3Nephi reminds his people that “God gave power to one man, even Moses, to

smite upon the waters of the Red Sea, and they parted”.

A possible chronology from Abraham to Moses follows:

Abr. 2:14 says that Abraham was 62 when he went to Egypt the first time. (Genesis 12:4 has him at 75)

This was about the time Noah died or about +/- 2000 BC

ISRAEL, Abraham’s posterity, starts its captivity with Abraham leaving Haran for Egypt years

He lives there for about 16 years ……………………………………………… 16

He came back to Bethel for at least 14 years Genesis 14:5 ………………… 14

He had Isaac when he was 100 (Genesis 21:5) and the Lord said unto him that his seed would “be in a

strange land” for yet another 400 year bondage. (Genesis 15:13; Acts 7:1-6) The 4th

generation shall

“come hither again” Genesis 15:16. The ages do not match here, 430-400=30 but 100-62=38. 38

It just might be that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob must have lived in the land of Midian possibly

at the foot of Mt Horeb at one time, as it was probably in this area of the ancient trade route that Joseph

was sold to “a company of Ishmeelites… bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to

Egypt” Gen. 37:25 (Matt. 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother,

and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and

frankincense, and myrrh.)

This would explain Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, having the Melchizedek Priesthood. D&C 84:6-16

Ex. 3: 1 Now Moses kept the flock of aJethro his father in law, the

bpriest of Midian: and he led the flock

MOSES IN THE DESERT

The following photo of the Sinai Peninsula shows the Mediterranean Sea at the top, the Dead Sea at

upper right and the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba at the north end of the Red Sea. The Nile River can be seen

on the left with it’s large delta on the north end as it empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

Note the abrupt end of the dark vegetation and the lighter desert sand at the border of Israel and Egypt

along the Mediterranean Sea.

Page 5: Who Was Moses

The small narrow darker line seen on the right side of the Gulf of Suez just over half way down the Gulf

is a mountain range and the site of a spring called “Moses’ well”. A Geologist friend of mine, named

Ross Clark, personal communication, visited this site and described it as “a hole in the barren black rock

about 8 feet above the ground about 18 inches across and gushing fresh water out into the desert as a

great spout.” It might possibly be there that Moses was told by God to take his rod and “speak unto the

rock “and Moses gathered the people and said “must we fetch you water out of this rock?” and Moses

“smote the rock twice and the water came out abundantly” . Then “the LORD spake unto Moses”

(Numbers 20:7-13) and in substance told Moses you did not do this I did.

Horeb is usually used as meaning Mt Sinai but the name Horeb it’s self comes from (hareb 731)

meaning to dry up, dryness or desolation.

Exodus 17:6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the

rock, and there shall come water out of it that the people may drink…

Moses Crossing the Red Sea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJXUv_btg60&mode=related&search=%20-%2092k by Ron Wyatt

Pharaoh's Drowned Army as received by an email and is as follows:

(ABOVE GILDED CHARIOT WHEEL - Mute witness to the miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea by

the Hebrews 3,500 years ago. Found with metal detector.

Confirmation of the actual Exodus route has come from divers finding coral-encrusted bones and

chariot remains in the Gulf of Aqaba

One of the most dramatic records of Divine intervention in history is the account of the Hebrews'

exodus from Egypt.

The subsequent drowning of the entire Egyptian army in the Red Sea was not an insignificant

event, and confirmation of this event is compelling evidence that the Biblical narrative is truly authentic.

Over the years, many divers have searched the Gulf of Suez in vain for artifacts to verify the Biblical

account. But carefully following the Biblical and historical records of the Exodus brings you to

Nuweiba, a large beach in the Gulf of Aqaba, as Ron Wyatt discovered in 1978.

Repeated dives in depths ranging from 60 to 200 feet deep (18m to 60m), over a stretch of almost

2.5 km, has shown that the chariot parts are scattered across the sea bed. Artifacts found include wheels,

chariot bodies as well as human and horse bones. Divers have located wreckage on the Saudi coastline

opposite Nuweiba as well.

Since 1987, Ron Wyatt found three 4-spoke gilded chariot wheels. Coral does not grow on gold,

hence the shape has remained very distinct, although the wood inside the gold veneer has disintegrated

making them too fragile to move.

The hope for future expeditions is to explore the deeper waters with remote cameras or mini-subs.

Page 7: Who Was Moses

Tutankhamen's tomb

Mineralized Bone - One of many found at the crossing site (above center). This one tested by the Dept.

of Osteology at Stockholm University, was found to be a human femur, from the right leg of a 165-

170cm tall man. It is essentially 'fossilized' ie. Replaced by minerals and coral, hence cannot be dated by

radiocarbon methods, although this specimen was obviously from antiquity.

Chariot wheel and axle covered with coral and up-ended. Exodus 14:25 "And took off their chariot

wheels, that they drove them heavily:....."

When Ron Wyatt first visited Nuweiba in 1978, he found a Phoenician style column lying in the water.

Unfortunately the inscriptions had been eroded away, hence the column's importance was not

understood until 1984, when a second granite column was found on the Saudi coastline opposite --

identical to the first, except on this one the inscription was still intact!

In Phoenician letters (Archaic Hebrew), it contained the words: Mizraim (Egypt); Solomon; Edom;

death; Pharaoh; Moses; and Yahweh, indicating that King Solomon had set up these columns as a

memorial to the miracle of the crossing of the sea. Saudi Arabia does not admit tourists, and perhaps

fearing unauthorized visitors, the Saudi Authorities have since removed this column, and replaced it

with a flag marker where it once stood.

NUWEIBA BEACH - The spot where the crossing began. (Looking south)

How deep is the water? The Gulf of Aqaba is very deep, in places over a mile (1,600m) deep. Even

with the sea dried up, walking across would be difficult due to the steep grade down the sides. But there

is one spot where, if the water were removed, it would be an easy descent for people and animals. This

is the line between Nuweiba and the opposite shore in Saudi Arabia.

Depth-sounding expeditions have revealed a smooth, gentle slope descending from Nuweiba out into

the Gulf. This shows up almost like a pathway on depth-recording equipment, confirming it's Biblical

description "...a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters." (Isaiah 43:16).

The Bible writers frequently refer to the miracle of the Red Sea crossing, for it was an event which

finds no equal in history. The Hebrew prophets describe the sea at the crossing site as "...the waters of

the great deep ...the depths of the sea..." (Isaiah 51:10). The distance between Nuweiba and where

artifacts have been found on the Saudi coast is about 18km (11 miles). Knowing the exact spot to which

the Bible writers were referring, what is the depth there?

Along this line the deepest point is about 800m (2,600 feet). No wonder that inspired writers of the

Bible described it as the mighty waters. And no wonder that not a single Egyptian survived when the

water collapsed in upon them.

Page 9: Who Was Moses

9

Left shows the possible Exodus Route where the crossing site through the Gulf of Aqaba is now

proposed. The Saudi side also has a beach area of a similar size

Right is a model of the water’s depths at the crossing site.

Exodus 13:18 - Israel had left Egypt before crossing the Red Sea “But God led the people about,

through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of

the land of Egypt.”

Exodus 13:18 -They crossed the "wilderness of the Red sea," They crossed the desert between the two

arms of the Red sea - called today the Sinai Peninsula, it’s ancient name was the "Wilderness of the Red

sea"

Exodus 14:3 - They would appear to be "entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in"

The premise of the book “The Gold of Exodus, (The Discovery of The True Mount Sinai)” 1998, by

Howard Blum was that the Red Sea crossing was at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. They searched for

artifacts along the shallow waters there to try and prove their theory but found none. This route was also

proposed by the Hiltons in their book “Discovering Lehi” p.59.

Page 10: Who Was Moses

10

MT. SINAI

Exodus 3:1,12 - Moses led the people to the mountain in Midian where he had had his calling from God

to go get the Israelites out of Egypt and bring them home. Midian is in northwestern Saudi Arabia;

hence Moses led the Israelites to a mountain in Arabia, not on the Sinai Peninsula as is commonly

believed today. It is probably in light of the mounting evidence showing the true location of Mt. Sinai

that in the new edition of the scriptures there is now a “?” beside the Mt. Sinai name. (see new 1999

Bible map #2.)

Some authors support this new location, including; Lynn and Hope Hilton who wrote Discovering Lehi,

1996, p.59; new 1999 Bible map #2, the findings of Ron Wyatt found on his web site and recorded in

The Gold of Exodus, (The Discovery of The True Mount Sinai) 1998, by Howard Blum. They all question the

location of the traditional ‘Mt. Sinai’.

Most now agree that it is the same as the mountain known as ‘(Mt) Jubal al Lawz’ which is on the east

side of the ‘Valley of Lemuel’. This puts it in northwestern Arabia in the land of Midian in Moses’ time;

the place Elijah heard ‘the still small voice’ (old Bible map #8); the place Lehi stops; possibly where

Jesus went to ‘Egypt’ as a child (old Bible map #8); where John the Baptist was when he came from

the wilderness; where Jesus went to fast; and maybe where Paul went for three years (Gal 1:17, 18)

when he went to Arabia. Paul states in Galatians 4:25 “For this … is mount Sinai in Arabia,….”

Roman “Egypt” at time of Jesus and Apostles included that NW part of Arabia

Page 11: Who Was Moses

11

It was possibly here, then, that Moses talked with God in the burning bush, has the visions found in

Moses chapter 1 and returns to Egypt to free Israel.

When Moses left Egypt with Israel they probably went south and followed the Red Sea around the Sinai

Peninsula to a point part way up the Gulf of Aqaba. At this point they crossed the sea, to escape the

Egyptians, to reach the Land of Midian, where Moses lived for 40 years, and where the sacred Mountain

called Sinai or Horeb is located. There they remained waiting until the descendants of Shem reached

their time of God’s rath and Israel was to destroy them and reclaim the land as their inheritance. (Deut.

20:15-17)

Page 12: Who Was Moses

12

The exodus of Lehi and his family from Jerusalem to the land Bountiful describes in detail the ancient

Frankincense trail. This ancient trade route has been validated in recent years. This trail extends south of

the Dead Sea on a course that goes to the top of the Gulf of Aqaba, then through a range of mountains

that today is called in Arabic “the Boarders” (J. Bancroft, personal communication) (1Nephi 2:5 has

them traveling “in the boarders”) then to a valley one mountain range inland (Valley of Lemuel?). Mt.

Jubal al Lawz (Mt. Sinai) is east of the Valley of Lemuel top center of photo. When Lehi and his family

stayed in this valley there were probably others there also. D&C 33:8 says “Open your mouths… as

Nephi of old. Who journeyed from Jerusalem in the wilderness.” This could mean that Nephi did some

missionary work and baptized some families. This then could be why they call the people from this area

“Lihyans” or “the people of Lihy” (Lehi) Hilton p.95 and where a possible baptismal font was found.

(See at end)

(The white beach-like protuberance (lower center) is where Nuweiba Beach is located. This is where the

evidence shows that Moses took the Israelites across the Red Sea into the land of Midian.)

Modern roads that show possible passages for Israel to reach the crossing point of the Gulf of Aqaba at

Nuweiba Beach just right of the word ‘PENINSULA’ on the map.

It is possible that Israel was trying to reach the top of the gulf when Pharaohs’ army caught up to them

so they had to cross the sea in a miraculous way to escape.

The X on the map, center right, is the location of Mt. Jubal al Lawz (Mt. Sinai or the Mt. where the laws

were given).

"The origin of the present Monastery of Saint Catherine on the NW slope of Jebel Musa is traced back to

A.D. 527, when Emperor Justinian established it on the site where Helena, mother of Constantine the

Great, had erected a small church two centuries earlier." (The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, 1962,

In a book entitled The Gold of Exodus by Howard Blum (1998) ‘the true Mount Sinai’ the account of

Ron Wyatt is given as finding it in the mid 1980’s. (Lynn and Hope Hilton wrote a book Discovering

Lehi in 1996 wherein they recount this same hypothesis in 1961)
