WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR

MEDIA PRODUCT?

EMILY HIGGS

Page 2: Who would be the audience for your media?

The main target audience for my music magazine would be teenagers/ young adults who have a love for garage/house music. I want my magazine to appeal to both genders, as garage music is such a broad genre appreciated by both sexes.I’ve aimed my magazine towards those who love going to festivals, such as Reading and Nass to listen to garage artists among large groups of others who have a shared passion for the genre.

This is the audience profile that I initially made to display some of the general features I would associate with my target audience. Looking upon it now, I would say that most aspects do still relate to my desired audience. I would associate the people buying my magazine with being on trend with the latest fashion and technologies. They would have a relatively high disposable income, as they may still be living at home, so would spend their money on nights out, festival, clothes, drink, newest technology and music.

STATISTICS One of the UK’s biggest dance and house magazines ‘Mixmag’ has an

audience of 72% boys and 28% girls. To combat the significantly lower female audience, I have chosen to use a female as my artist, so that other females can look up to her and feel as though they can relate to the music more.

The typical reader age of Mixmag is 24, thus I have chosen to aim my magazine towards teenagers and young adults

as the genre is becoming increasingly popular and appreciated among the younger generation who love

listening to new and classic garage/ house music in clubs on nights out.

I’ve priced my magazine relatively low, at £2.50, as this would appeal to middle class and lower

class audiences.
