1

Good leaders give clear expectations and enforce procedures consistently. This manual is offered in a spirit of grace and love out of a biblical conviction that order brings unity and peace. In order to be a good steward of time, money and energy we all work together in a bond of unity and love. Working in community is biblical, and will translate into your benefit overall.

Certification Levels

WholyFit certification offers Christian fitness pros a place to receive the highest quality training plus continuing education and all from a Christian perspective. All WholyFit programs must be pre-approved by WholyFit ministries before implementation and be carried out by an appropriately certified instructor, current in their certification status.

1. Silver: Silver certification equips exercise instructors to teach a basic layer 1 WholyFit class in the church and/or professional health club environment which includes general population. A Silver certificate is sent upon completion. Silver certified instructors are encouraged to start teaching a layer 1 class as soon as possible after they receive their certificate. Only those who have completed Silver certification may formally start teaching WholyFit classes (in layer 1 only). (Note: An intern in training is encouraged to practice teaching WholyFit informally in a private home to a few friends or to family members.)

Silver certification is completed online 25 hours of supervised practice required with Mentor instructors. (If no live instructor

available in your area, you can attend classes online or with DVDs.) At least 10 hours volunteerism highly recommended per year for active instructors

and volunteerism is required for those who wish to be trainers (who certify others.)

Intern level 1, 2: There are 2 parts to complete to be certified:

Silver certification is one part Gold certification is one part

The parts may be finished in any order.

Intern level 1 - has finished or is working on part one of the two. Intern level 2 - has finished one part and is working on part two of two.

For example, an intern level 1 could be someone who is working on Silver certification. Or an intern level one could be someone who has finished Gold and has not yet started Silver certification. An intern level 2 could be someone who has finished Silver certification and has just been scheduled to attend the next Gold Retreat.

2. Gold Certification: Either before or after Silver Certification, Gold certification is completed at a live Retreat. Certificates are received in person. After a teacher attends the

2

Gold retreat, he/she is certified to teach layers 1, 2 and 3; but only after finishing Silver Certification.

Gold Retreats: WholyFit Gold Retreats are free (tuition is free) to previously certified instructors and allow them to receive contact hours toward higher certification levels like Diamond. Gold Retreats are fun and instructors can focus on their personal practice and receive additional training that will always benefit both the instructor and their students. Fellowship is the focus of Gold Retreats where instructors can unite with others on the same team, network and make lifelong friends. At Gold retreat, previously certified instructors will assist in training the new instructors and will receive practicum contact hours. Teaching new instructors really hones a teacher’s skill!

Re-certification: To stay current after Gold + Silver certification subscribe to 2 new routines every year. Instructors who wish to fast track can purchase additional routines at any time for $40.

Laura (or another WholyFit trainer) provides ongoing new routine training online through WHOLYFIT TV. These classes will give you contact hours for your 200 hour grid toward Diamond certification. Our teachers continually have told Laura how nice it is to take a WholyFit class from someone else. When you are teaching all the time it’s such a nice break for you to receive a WholyFit class from other teachers. Many times it reminds you of why you started providing WholyFit for others in the first place! Details for any special events come in the Newsletter. Sign up on the website.

1. Exercise Through the Bible - Online Training:Receive CONTACT HOURS toward Diamond certification with Laura by practicing the FREE 10 minute videos through subscription to WHOLYFIT TV called “Exercise Through the Bible.”

Suspended Status: What happens if you miss your re-cert goals and become inactive in your certification? If your certification lapses, you become inactive and your certification dormant. Re-activate again! Just come to a Gold Retreat (for free tuition) and make a fresh start by re-setting your initial certification date. (Accrual of the 4 years of active teaching toward Platinum will begin again.) At Gold Retreat you will have a completely different experience very time!

Level 3. Mentor instructors: Silver + Gold certified instructors, who are active volunteers and subscribed to re-certification may mentor new trainees by providing the 25 hours of supervised practice to trainees on a volunteer basis. This work counts toward practicum hours to fulfill Diamond Certification.

3

Level 4. WholyFit Directors: Directors are volunteers who are Gold Certified WholyFit Instructors. They support, provide nurture and care for fellow instructors on a peer basis and act as a liason between WholyFit and the teachers who are assigned to them. Directors are in turn, shephered by the Corporate Communications Director, (aka International director) who pastors all the Directors.

Sheepies: 1-12 instructors under a director’s care. As the communications arm of WholyFit, Directors shepherd and disciple instructors

Directors as Silver Trainers: Directors are encouraged to become Silver Trainers and to actively seek out and recruit their own teachers by recruiting from within their geographic area. Currently a Director’s sheepies may or may not contain people in the same geographic area, but in the future, we envision sheepies will be instructors in the same regional area.

Level 5. Pro Platinum Certification: Pro Platinum certification is awarded to instructors any time after their 1st active re-certification cycle. Submit completion form on last page of this document and WholyFit will mail a Platinum certificate after receipt and verification of completion form. In addition the following is required:

Taught WholyFit classes called “WholyFit” for 2 AFAA Primary Group Exercise Certification or another pre-approved outside

certification At least 20 hours volunteerism is required during the current year Attend at least 2 Gold Retreats Has learned and demonstrated proficiency in at least 4 Heirloom routines

Level 6. Diamond Certification: Diamond certification is intended to support Christian fitness professionals in the development of a professional career in the fitness industry (in addition to, or in place of, their Church ministry). Pursue Diamond certification in order to advance your WholyFit practice at the highest level to which a Mentor Instructor can attain.

At least 2 years WholyFit teaching experience (must include church classes) 200-hour grid enclosed must be filled out which includes documentation of

contact hours. The form and the video on how to fill it out is available on the Director’s blog (ask your director). The grid form and video walks you through directions to constructing a 200 hour documentation equivalent to 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Registration that you can submit in any professional setting as part of your portfolio.

Attend at least 3 Gold Retreats which count as contact hours At least 20 hours of volunteerism is required during the current year Has learned and demonstrated proficiency in least 8 Heirloom

WholyFit Choreographers.

4

Diamond certified instructors who have learned all 12 Heirloom routines are qualified to choreograph, research and test new routines for WholyFit. After approval these routines may be offered to WholyFit instructors as more continuing education.

Corporate Positions

Corporate Communications Director (formerly International Director)The CCD pastors Directors and therefore indirectly pastors all WholyFit instructors. This is currently a paid position.

Corporate Director of Program DesignThis position is not currently filled. Goal date is January 2014. The CDPD presents customized WholyFit Group Exercise Program Design solutions directly to churches. When an individual is interested in certification, the DPD meets with the individual’s church to present the benefits of WholyFit. When the individual signs up for silver certification the DPD assigns a Silver Trainer. This will be a paid position.*

WholyFit RoutinesCertified instructors teach WholyFit routines. (See IV b in Instructor Application.) Only WholyFit-specific exercises are taught in WholyFit classes. We encourage new exercise instructors to teach the routines as they are given, however in Gold certification, instructors are taught to modify the routines and exercises. There are 12 Heirloom routines with about 20 new exercises in each. Each exercise has 3 layers. Each routine has 5 cycles with fun sequencing. (That’s 720 new exercises sequenced in new ways.)

6

Instructors can mix and match cycles to create original routines and are encouraged to put new Scriptures of their choice to the Warm-up cycle.

Heirloom Routines:

1. FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: Galatians: Put on each fruit: Love, joy, peace...2. LIVING SACRIFICE: Romans: Present your body a living sacrifice.3. PSALM 91: For spiritual emergencies dial Psalm 91!4. FAITHFULNESS: Lamentation, Numbers, and Philippians: God's Faithfulness5. SURRENDER: Worship Dance-like routine with music.6. 2 TIMOTHY 3:16: God's Word is trustworthy.7. NEW CREATION: Back to basics with a twist!8. PSALM 143: WholyFit and SlowFlo Fusion9. ABIDE: John 15:7 with awesome core work.10. I SEEK YOU: God seeks you and you seek God: the heavenly hide and seek11. PRECIOUS GEMS: Precious promises from Isaiah12. THE PROMISE: Acts 2: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

The reason for routines: #1. They make the difference! Each routine is a perfectly designed, complete class from warm-up to restoration, structured to provide stability, strength, exploration, core work, adventure, flexibility and agility. Each has been pre-tested and has proven appeal in actual fitness settings with participants of various levels, abilities and body types. Every routine has been developed, researched and tested in actual class environments in both the health club and church fitness class environment over many years. Maintaining the WholyFit format and sequencing is necessary to insure a safe class presentation and built-in success. WholyFit Certification program teaches brand new techniques and cutting edge exercise technology. It is different from any other system in terms of both exercise format and content. WholyFit Re-cert routines will provide instructors with cutting edge material that promises to sustain popularity and member interest year after year.

#2: Consistency and excellenceWe do not want WholyFit to simply be a place where yoga is taught under a new name, or where exercise instructors simply teach what they were already teaching. WholyFit classes need to remain unique and different. They are designed with a fitness specific warm-up and athletic standing section. In order to retain it’s excellent reputation, the WholyFit Professional Certification and the continuing education program are designed to provide Christian fitness professionals with cutting edge exercise technique and training intended to provide churches with a well-trained teacher, excellent routines, continuing educations, class materials and more.

#3. Save timePre-designed routines saves instructors time and energy. The quickest way to start teaching WholyFit classes and maintain quality is to learn one routine at a time, becoming an expert in one routine containing a finite set of exercises, then moving on to

7

the next routine. In the church environment, if teachers are giving classes for free, they will not have the time to spend creating and recreating routines. We’ve done all the work for you so that your classes are “plug and play,” sure to delight and surprise your participants for years to ome.

#4. Hybrids Routines Provide Unlimited CreativityWhat if I’m an experienced fitness pro and want to make up my own routines? In Gold Certification we train instructors how to create hybrid routines using posture cards. It’s really fun. During Gold certified instructors are also taught how to modify the exercises according to their needs while still providing the excellence and consistency that their WholyFit will be known for.

More Continuing Education

a. Miscellaneous: Continuing Education classes are varied and respond to specific needs.

Pre/post Natal How to Use Technology to Promote Your Class (Using Facebook links, and

social networking) How to Start a Health Fitness Challenge in Your Church (Like the “Biggest

Loser” program) Engaging Your Church Leaders

b. Fusion: Fusion workshops teach WholyFit instructors how to teach any of 10 other fitness classes using other fitness modes of training. These other classes can be presented as separate classes or used to mix in with WholyFit routines in order to create new fusion classes. Fusion classes are a part of the continuing education process. The first one a WholyFit instructor learns (at Gold Retreat) is Adore Worship Dance. These formats can be combined with WholyFit to make a super original class based on the individual instructor’s personality and passions.

After becoming certified in WholyFit, learning other systems will be a piece of cake! Initial WholyFit training teaches you everything you need to know about group exercise and a lot of anatomy and kinesiology. Learning to teach Kickboxing or body sculpting from WholyFit will only take one three-hour seminar! Certifications are available by live seminar. Learn a number of different fitness classes and help your church develop a complete fitness ministry!

Fusion formats include:

Adore Worship Dance SlowFlo Christian Alternative to Tai Chi A.R.T. aerobic resistance training using low weights for cardio and toning Beach Boot Camp outdoor exercise at the beach or park H.I.I.T. high intensity interval training with kick boxing

Sole to Soul partner walking and prayer program Step by Step cardio platform workout Agua Sagrada water exercise Baila latin dance

c. Functional Anatomy Continuing Education: New anatomy courses specifically designed for WholyFit instructors will be given beginning 2012! Watch for notification by Inner Circle newsletters. Anatomy is absolutely essential in order to really understand and practice mind-body exercise. Technique and safety is based on anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. Anatomy 103 is optional but required for WholyFit Corporate Staff Trainers.

d. Gatekeepers and Workups Seminars: These optional, fun and highly motivational seminars are only offered in person at Gold Retreats and teach you:

A. How to work up to an advanced personal practice (or)B. These seminars also teach you how to teach advanced students in layers 4+ even if you yourself do not have interest in performing these postures.

Advanced, level 4-6 postures are especially helpful to learn in teaching advanced exercisers like classical dancers and gymnasts. Don’t worry – we teach you how to teach others to do them, but you don’t have to be able to do them yourself. We’ll help you learn these advanced exercises and fitness concepts in order to continue to challenge you personally and to empower you to continue moving forward in your fitness knowledge for teaching others or for your own personal practice.

This 3-hour live seminar can be taken at any time but counts toward recertification as a substitution for new routine seminars only after 2 Re-cert cycles (4 years of staying active). Stay motivated and progressing forward in your own personal practice, regardless of where your students are in theirs.

Note: Some advanced WholyFit exercises may be appropriate in a small studio or one-on-one setting, but may be unsafe in a group exercise situation designed for the general public.

e. Marketing Your WholyFit ClassSee the directors’ blog.

---------------------TrademarkNo person or certified instructor may use the WholyFit name for website domains, or other promotional mechanisms whether it be for business or personal use. “WholyFit,” including all spellings and homonyms is a trademarked name, which cannot be used in any way without permission by the founder of WholyFit. WholyFit corporate owns holyfit, whollyfit, mywholyfit.com, wholyfit.net and many other variations of wholyfit.

9

The reason: We do not want so many WholyFit websites that no one could find us. Also, we do not want to be responsible for what is on a multitude of websites. We encourage instructors to open their own websites with a unique name and advertise their WholyFit classes and their certification with the WholyFit logo, etc…

WholyFit Devotional Exercise facebookWe encourage you to take advantage of social networking. There are two WholyFit Global facebooks:

a. WholyFit Devotional Exercise Facebook which has WholyFit Christian Fitness Fan Page. Be a friend! We will promote your class here.*

b. WholyFit instructors Facebook. Be a friend! Find out what’s going on in WholyFit and connect with other teachers.

c. *WholyFit instructors are encouraged to connect a business fan page to their personal facebook indicating the location of their class, ie WholyFit Huntsville. If you are the only instructor in a city, use the city name, otherwise use the venue name, like WholyFit at Calvary Baptist. Only directors use the state and continent name, ie WholyFit Mexico, WholyFit California, etc…

NewsletterAll of your WholyFit’s resources will be presented in the weekly Newsletter. Be sure to sign up on the website.

DirectorsAfter completion of Gold Certification you will be assigned to a Director. If you feel called to be a director, let us know.

20 hours per year of volunteerism is highly encouraged to help all instructors stay connected and keep WholyFit moving forward. The more you help WholyFit as a ministry, the more it will benefit YOU and your ministry. Minister to each other as well as your own classes and volunteer. WholyFit is a team effort.

Do Instructors Have to Call their classes “WholyFit”?See “WholyFit core values” in the director’s blog. Those who desire to stay in the WholyFit fellowship and work in the same direction with WholyFit call their classes “WholyFit.”

Not every certified instructor chooses to remain within the WholyFit core group and we extend the freedom to all our instructors to do as they feel lead with complete freedom and blessing. The mission of the leadership of WholyFit is to love those God puts in our path. There are no expectations and love is unconditional.

Can a WholyFit teacher teach a Yoga class?See “WholyFit core values” in the director’s blog. It is especially important to uphold the WholyFit reputation with church leadership. It would give a really mixed message for a WholyFit instructor to call a WholyFit class “yoga.” Attending yoga classes or trainings also dilutes the WholyFit message. There may be a time in the future where we do this together if God leads corporate leaders in that way, but He has not done so. Feel free to discuss this with your director at any time.

Do Teachers Have to teach WholyFit Exercises?See “How to Teach WholyFit Routines.” in director’s blog. In a church environment, volunteer teachers often do not have the time or inclination to spend many hours per week on choreography, exercise prescription, class design, graphic arts, etc. We have taken all the guesswork out of the rollout and maintenance of your exercise classes. Why re-invent the wheel?

WholyFit Fitness Pros teach only WholyFit exercises in their WholyFit classes. There is no way for WholyFit leadership to monitor all the exercises each certified instructor uses in her class if it has not passed WholyFit safety scrutiny. If a class is called WholyFit it must be WholyFit – not Pilates, not yoga, not any other system. There are many slippery slopes in the endeavor to bring mind-body exercise into the church. The Bible reminds us not to bring anything unclean into the House of God. We avoid the appearance of condoning yoga because it lead people away from Christ.

Integrity

11

We expect instructors to avoid the double minded practice of teaching something else and then calling it “WholyFit.” Certified instructors are free to teach whatever they want to. If they want to teach WholyFit, then they become certified in WholyFit and this is what they teach.

2 Chronicles 29:5Then he said to them, “Listen to me, O Levites. Consecrate yourselves now, and consecrate the house of the LORD, the God of your fathers, and carry the uncleanness out from the holy place.

Protection through a Unified ApproachSee Marketing materials in Directors’ Blog. Using the WholyFit brand materials, colors and logos, is a protection from deceit of outside, unproved programs that claim to be Christian but are not. WholyFit is a name that can be trusted for integrity only as much as instructors maintain the WholyFit signature practices and guidelines. This is why Fitness Pros, working in community with WholyFit are the only instructors eligible to use WholyFit marketing materials.

WholyFit printed materials will communicate physical and spiritual safety by the presence of the WholyFit logo, designs and branding elements. This is why it is necessary for your church program to use only WholyFit designed printed materials. It is our desire to keep administration costs down for the church and instructor. We make your program rollout quick, convenient and low-cost with professional fliers, handouts and advertising. I remember the days of printing up fliers on my painfully slow home printer at $70 per ink refill. No more. The work has already been done for you! If you would like to help design ongoing marketing materials, please volunteer.

Christian churches are afraid of mind-body exercise - and they should be! The concept of Christian yoga is like saying, “Christian idol worship” and should never be offered in the church. Make sure your church leaders know that WholyFit is a Christian Alternative to Yoga NOT “Christian Yoga, and help them to understand the difference. Don’t be offended if your church leader grills you about the content of WholyFit. Welcome it. Be prepared and knowledgeable enough to answer their questions! It is the tendency today for well-meaning Christians to participate in classical yoga classes and they think that they can bring these practices into the church. Beware. There are serious consequences associated with leading people astray. (Read Matthew 18:6 and 1 Corinthians 10:21-22) WholyFit branding is intended to keep the system pure.

Christian mind-body exercise is sweeping the country and teachers are in high demand, especially in churches. However this grass-roots movement is still new and there is a shortage of excellent instructors in the Christian Church and in the health club environment. We must be careful that we offer an “Alternative to yoga” and not "Christian yoga." WholyFit does not "mix" yoga philosophy in with Biblical Christianity. WholyFit will set the bar for excellence in both professionalism and Biblical foundation.
