Who would have imagined that, within a few weeks of us celebrating the dawn of 2020,our lives would be turned upside down. The arrival of the Covid-19 has changed societyand the way of life we have previously been accustomed to for possibly years to come.Whilst there was general support for the Lockdown imposed upon us, there is now agrowing resentment and frustration against the dictates of a plethora of often confusingand contradictory regulations, the criminalization of certain activities that used to betaken for granted, being told what we are not allowed to buy, the prohibition of visitingfamily and friends, etc, etc. It is being increasingly perceived as authoritarian impositionin which ordinary citizens have no say. This is an unfortunate state of affairs and we needto guard against our emotions getting the better of us.

The National Council members of the CCSA are in communication with each other on an almost daily basis looking at ways and means of meeting the new challenges we will be facing in the days – and possibly years, to come. We are acutely aware of the difficulties many of our members are or will be facing and we encourage those of you who may currently find it unaffordable to renew their 2020/2021 membership to approach their Regional Committee and discuss alternative arrangements. You can be reassured that a solution will be found to accommodate your membership renewal without placing yourself in financial distress.

It has been confirmed that the State of Disaster which would have come to an end in the near future, has been extended by a further 30 Days. Should the current Level 3 regulations that do not permit any gatherings other than Church Services or Funerals –which are in any event, limited to a maximum of 50 people, continue in the 30 dayLockdown extension, there will be major implications for the forthcoming Regional Annual General Meetings. We are also unsure what regulations pertaining to Meetings and the re-opening of Caravan Parks will be imposed by the Regulations in Lockdown Levels 1 and 2 and we can only make informed decisions about AGM procedures once they have been published. We will be in communication with your Committees and will make a final call about the AGM’s as soon as we have clarity.

Speaking of Caravan Parks, news from the United Kingdom is that, due to travel restrictions, the vast majority of UK citizens who fly to foreign shores for their summer holidays, are now planning to spend their holidays in the UK. This has resulted in a substantial surge in Caravan usage. With Caravan Parks in the UK having been forced to close due to the Covid - 19 pandemic there is now a growing call for them to re-open so people can go on holiday. The interesting aspect of this call is that, due to the fact that caravans in the UK and Europe are self contained with built-in bathrooms and hook-up facilities for waste water, families feel they are at risk using resort facilities and they feel far safer using what is available in their own caravans. All they want is a venue where they can spend their holiday. It may be an interesting topic to discuss with our local resorts.

This edition of the Homestead News is largely dedicated to an initiative by one of our Regional Chairmen who came up with the idea of holding a “Lockdown Rally” which was a virtual rally where members would set up camp on their own property on a specified weekend and enjoy the camaraderie of a normal Rally by way of WhatsApp messages to each other, posting photographs of their “Rally” activities and even a virtual Chairman’s Tea. No one could have imagined how this was so well received. Several more Regions have embraced the idea and more “Lockdown Rallies” have subsequently been held. Without elaborating any more please enjoy the stories and photos we have received and share with you in this newsletter.

Suid-Afrikaners is baie lief vir kamp. Lief om in die natuur langs ‘n vuurtjie te sit. Lief daarvoor om snoesig in ‘n karavaan te slaap. Karavaan kamp is goeie tye saam met familie en vriende, goeie herinneringe word gelaat.Die belewenis van kampeer word deur geslagte oorgedra en dikwels word gekamp soos die ouers dit gedoen het, net luukser en geriefliker. Die Storie van Jurgens Karavane. Die naam Jurgens is ‘n bekende naam in SA en het oor die jare sinoniem geword met karavane net soos bv Coke, Kreepy Krauly ens vir hulle spesifieke produkte. Die storie van Jurgens in SA begin in 1952, maar het eintlik al in 1938 in Holland begin toe Mnr G D Jurgens sy eerste karavaan gebou het, ‘n karavaan wat deur ‘n perd getrek is. Die na-oorlogse jare het menige immigrante na Suid-Afrika laat verhuis. Mnr. Jurgens (snr) was ‘n ervare bakwerkbouer wat sy eie fabriek in Holland besit het, maar die swak ekonomie en ‘n geweldige belastinglas het hom na SA laat uitwyk. November 1950 het hy en sy gesin in SA aangekom met feitlik niks en bitter min geld. Sy oudste seun, Dirk Jurgens, was tydens die oorlog in die weermag in beheer van ‘n vervoer depot met ongeveer 50 voertuie. Die jonger seun , Riek Jurgens , het opleiding in ‘n handelsrigting gehad, maar moes na die oorlog noodgedwonge gewerk het in ‘n werkswinkel. Die gesin se plan was om eers te kyk hoe werk dinge in SA in die paneelbedryf sodat hulle later ‘n eie besigheid kon begin.

G D “Ou Baas” JURGENS

Die eerste 2 weke in SA het hulle op Johannesburg Stasie geslaap voor hulle in ‘n klein losieshuisie verblyf kon kry en werk kon kry as arbeiders by ‘n paneelbouer, ironies genoeg by ‘n man, Eddie Andrews, wat karavane gebou het. Eddie het tydens die 1930’s, tyd van Groot Depressie, sy werk verloor en het tydens sy toerdery deur die land op soek na idees vir sy toekoms ‘n artikel raakgelees oor die genot van karavaankampering in Engeland. Sy belangstelling is geprikkel en sy splinternuwe peperduur Britse Eccles karavaan word bestel en afgelaai in Durbanhawe en op sy pad terug Johannesburg toe besef hy hierdie ongekende belangstelling van almal langs die pad wys daarop dat daar ‘n mark is vir karavane in SA.

In 1936 bekom Eddie en 2 vennote ‘n lisensie om Eccles karavane in SA te vervaardig, moeilike tye volg met groot suksesse en groot mislukkings. Tydens die oorlog doen hy diens in Oos-Afrika en Egipte en na die oorlog begin hy die besigheid Andre Caravan and Trailer Co waar hy die Jurgens familie in 1950 in diens neem, wetende dat hulle beplan om later hulle eie besigheid te begin. Hy het later sy besigheid in 1955 verkoop aan Afrcaravans en pos aanvaar as Alg Verkoopsbestuurder by Gypsey Karavane. Agtien maande later, Junie 1952, open die Jurgens familie “Jurgens Bodies Caravans and Trailers (Pty) Ltd” in Germiston met slegs pa en 2 seuns as werkers. Die eerste karavaan “Bokkie” word gemaak, gevolg deur nog baie die volgende paar jaar. Hierdie karavaan was ‘n familiepoging, selfs die gordyne en kussings was met die hand gemaak deur Mev Jurgens.

Aanvanklik was die bou van karavane sekonder en is daar meestal gekonsentreer op sleepwaens, afleweringsvoertuie, mobiele biblioteke ens. Ondertussen het hulle vorige werkgewer, Eddie, in sy eerste jaar as Alg verkoopsbestuurder by Gypsey 207 karavane verkoop en in 1960 begin ‘n jong man, John Moody, ‘n besigheid in Pinetown waar hy Sprite karavane aanmekaar sit. Kompetisie word sterk en nuwe planne moet beraam word. ‘n Karavaan tydskrif, Caravan Magazine, (later Caravan and Outdoor Life) sien die lig en die Chrysler Valiant word bekend gestel, ‘n gewilde sleepvoertuig. Jurgens begin nou in aller yl karavane bou en moet spoedig in 1963 verhuis na ‘n groter perseel langs Jan Smuts Lughawe. Die besigheid het gegroei en spoedig het Jurgens die hele Suid-Afrikaanse mark oorheers , veral met nuwe innoverende gedagtes soos ‘n sytent, ‘n yskas, neonliggies wat die gevaarlike en onbetroubare gaslampe in die karavane vervang het.

Die Randse Paasskou was een van die groot geleenthede om Jurgens ten toon te stel. Die kompetisie met Gypsey en Caravan International (CI) wat Sprite inkorpereer raak sterk en Jurgens antwoord met mobiele huise en kantore en die gewilde Motorhome (Autovilla). Spoedig word Jurgens karavane uitgevoer na menigte lande toe. ‘n Bloeitydperk voor die 1970’s se moeilike tye aanbreek met sanksies, buitensporige belastingheffings en brandstoftekorte. Die uitdaging om ligter en meer vaartbelynde karavane te ontwerp wat brandstof bespaar en gesleep kan word deur kleiner motors is groot en Jurgens sukkel aanvanklik daarmee maar antwoord met polistrien isolering, badkamer binne-in karavaan en getinte vensters. Die “fleetline “ ontwerp word geleen vanaf die vliegtuie by Jan Smuts.

Die 1980’s was bitter slegte jare vir Jurgens. Riek Jurgens bedank en verkoop sy aandele aan sy broer Dirk en die besigheid verloor sy sprankel en sukkel om te kompeteer. Aandele en waarde van Jurgens val sodanig dat CI Caravans ‘n aanbod om Jurgens te koop van die hand wys en glo dat Jurgens ‘n natuurlike dood sal sterf. In hierdie tydperk (1989) koop Michael Delport , ‘n plaasseun wat ‘n inlefabriek gebou het, die sinkende Jurgens Karavane. Uitvoerende personeel van CI se reaksie op die onervare Michael se aankope was dat die besigheid nie 6 maande sou oorleef nie. Bitter woorde om te sluk ‘n paar jaar later toe Jurgens vir CI uitkoop. Die Jurgens fabriek verskuif nou na Bophuthaswana, noord van Pretoria. 1 Januarie 1990 open die nuwe fabriek en Michael Delport onthou : “ I had a new factory that had never produced a caravan and a new labour force who had never built a caravan.” Hulle het ‘n nuwe model nodig gehad, iets nuuts. Wim Slippens het vir 30 jaar reeds vir Jurgens gewerk en moes iets nuuts ontwerp maar Mnr Delport onthou:” What we ended up doing much to Wim’s horror, was stripping out a Palma and building a new interior on the spot – no drawings, just trial and error” So is die Penta begin, ‘n baie suksesvolle ontwerp.

1994 word die nuwe reeks Jurgens Karavane bekend gestel en dit knou CI finaal en dieselfde man wat nie 6 maande kans gegee is op oorlewing nie koop hierdie einste CI. CI Caravans in Pinetown word gesluit en verskuif na GaRankuwa in 1998. Jurgens CI is gebore. Loftus Caravan City is die eerste handelaar wat al drie karavaan make kon verkoop: Jurgens, Sprite en Gypsey. 1998 is ‘n keerpunt in die bestaan van Jurgens karavane. Fabrieke smelt saam, die hele politieke omgewing verander en nuwe idees en aanslae moet uitgedink word. Die grootste deurbraak kom met die bekendstelling van die eerste “off-road “ karavaan , die Explorer. In gemak kan Afrika nou verken word, Afrika lande wat nou Suid-Afrikaners verwelkom. Die gewildheid van die Explorer neem so toe dat ‘n waglys ontstaan.

2004 word ‘n nuwe wenner bekendgestel, die Penta Gold, 2005 die Classique ook ‘n kits sukses. 2001 is begin met Campworld, ‘n kampeerwinkel waar toebehore ens gekoop kan word, alles om die kamplewe gemakliker te maak, ook ‘n reuse sukses. Oktober 2006 verkoop Michael Delport Jurgens CI aan Imperial Holding Ltd. Michael Delport verklaar: “ I had accomplished what I set out to do – the company was on a sound footing and I wasn’t getting any younger. My children were involved in another industry that interested me – it was time to move on,” Op ‘n vraag “ Wat weet Imperial van karavane af?” antwoord hulle CEO Bill Lynch: “It’s got wheels, hasn’t it?” Meer as 65 jaar later het Jurgens gegroei van ‘n klein familiebesigheid tot ‘n reuse maatskappy met ‘n reputasie van uitnemendheid wat selfs takke in Australie het.“Being “distinctly different” has kept Gypsey as the caravan of choice in the South African market.” Bron: Jurgens. 60 years of caravanning in South Africa.

Flag Raising at our Inaugural Rally in March 1991 at Heidelberg Kloof. This was done by Pat Lane (Chairman) and Ray Wilsenach (Vice Chairman). What a rainy weekend it was!

After the AGM we played Action Cricket on the tennis courts at Louw’s caravan park. The same rules applied as in action cricket the only difference was if you hit the ball over the fence you were out. These games went on until late of course with a lot of cheating in the South Rand spirit.

Eastern Transvaal Region hosted a Kontiki Rally where you had to build a raft at home, dissemble it and transport it to president dam in Springs on the Saturday morning. The raft consisted of six people and had to be assembled at the dam with a Porta Potty and Blankets included, which was then launched onto the dam. The race was on to see which team can row the fastest raft and staying on the raft until Sunday morning. Whilst on the raft you had to cook a 3-course meal on the Saturday afternoon for the judges to judge. The winners were announced at chairman’s tea.

South Rand once a year had a Go cart Rally at Bez Park caravan Park. Each Go cart had to have brakes and some safety aspects. You had a pusher to push your cart to get maximum speed. The track was laid out with old car tyres, the track was going through mud, and when the races were finished, we had a real mud fight.

1994 Tour to the Eastern Transvaal led by Fred & Marie, Bennie & Nesta

We held a fundraiser on our property in Witfield where we accommodated 23 caravans

all around the House. On the Sunday, the last caravan left at 20h00.

What developed from this Tour was the Golf which we fully enjoyed. Sega Golf was

formed after this tour.

Mozambique Tour

1997 to Beline

In 1997, Roy & Debbie Mostert – HLM, led a Tour to Mozambique. We could not tow our vans into the camp as the ground was too soft, we were towed in with a tractor. We had great fun as there was truly little to do outside of the park. We presented the park owners with a t-shirt from South Rand with all the names on. We took one trip out to Xai-Xai and on the way we saw how a bakkie should really be loaded. The next day we went to the market to buy prawns but some of our members were close to being arrested. The communication and translating was incredibly challenging, but it was a trip that will never be forgotten.

Rally at Brits:We were all parked at Brits caravan park with no site of any rain when suddenly that evening, we had a cloud burst for approximately 20 minutes and we stood in water 3 feet deep which of course led to some people having a nice swim in the 20 minute dam.

Vredefort Raid:In August 1997, Sasolburg Region was having a street festival rally in Vredefort in the Free State. South Rand decided to raid this rally. We raided them with 53 caravans. We had one stick going via Sasolburg (16 Vans) and the other stick via Fochville (17 Vans). We met in Parys and travelled through to Vredefort. We arrived at the park at approximately 23h00 and believe me, we were welcomed by all. We parked on a soccer field with electricity being laid on for us. Saturday morning, we prepared a breakfast for them. After breakfast we then went into Vredefort and we had great fun dancing the South Rand shuffle in the street and pubs. This was probably one of South Rand greatest raids.

Andrew (a.k.a. Foxy) and Ann joined the Caravan Club of Southern Africa in 1978. This couple have both been highly active and committed members. Foxy has served as Provincial Councillor and chairman. Ann too held the position of Chairperson of Sunshine Coast region. Alfred County were fortunate to have them transfer to our region upon their retirement to Margate. They were awarded Honorary Life Membership of the CCSA many moons ago and well deserved at that.

DIARY OF CARAVAN JUNKIES

The Foxcroft’s celebrated their 225th National Rally in March 2020 at the beautiful Weesgerus Resort, at Modimile, during the Derek Clarke Award Association Tour, having started out on their CCSA caravanning life at Karavana Park in May 1978. We recall that Rally as having in excess of 140 caravans in attendance. Too many for Karavana: half the Rally had to be accommodated at Uitspan Park, just up the road. It was one of several rallies where Natal Region had to use more than one Park at the same time for a rally, leading inevitably to the split of the Region to form a new region, Highway, which absorbed a number of Natal Region Members. The splits continued in order to make rallies manageable, Natal Nomads and Sunshine Coast following. At that time the CCSA had nearly 14000 members, but that’s another story…..

Foxy, Ann and Neil Booker

Along the way, the Foxcroft’s towed over 177 000 kilometres, visiting 267 caravan parks throughout South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland and Lesotho, spending some 2570 nights in their 541 caravan journeys. Family holidays, Tours and Rallies were all enjoyed with the freedom that only caravanning can give.

Talking caravans, we have owned nine during this time, all from new, the first being a Jurgens 450 at the princely cost of R2 880! The most used, and most loved, was a 2005 Jurgens Palma (cost R 118 000) which we pounded over 49 823 bumpy, dusty, corrugated roads all over the show. We spent 593 happy nights in this hotel on wheels. The one I am sorry we ever sold was a 1991 Gypsey 4B (R26 000), imagine how many bucks we would have saved if we had kept this magnificent van! The Booker’s, Mante’s and Jansen’s will attest to this………..

Why did we join the CCSA? At the time, the only real dedicated insurance cover for caravans was provided by the Club’s own brokered scheme. The Caravan Dealer made no bones about it: if you want to insure your van, you have to join the CCSA and subscribe to their policy!

Why have we stayed as Members for 43 years, and still counting? It was great for family holidays and breaks when the kids were still around, the many adventures we have had, and continue to have, the scenes, sights and sounds of Africa, the countless friendships and camaraderie. None of this could have been financially or physically possible using hotels etc. And how do you re-create a delicious braai, on a perfect evening in the Kruger Park, after a satisfying day in the bush? Or a bushveld sunset, or the laughs around the fireside?

The best part of caravanning? Undoubtedly touring! There is nothing more rewarding than heading out into the distance for several weeks, to places never visited before. New adventures, different lifestyles. Make no mistake, South Africa is a fabulous country to explore and learn about, and relaxed touring is the way to do it.

Rallies of course are the lifeblood of the Club. With a little effort and planning, there is no reason to miss a Rally and all that goes with it, and so we encourage all Members to make the commitment to yourselves. You will enjoy celebrating your milestones as we have, who knows, 100, or 150 or 250 Rallies will come your way!

Wat ‘n naweek. Ons het Buffelspoort vanjaar geslat met ‘n grote. Boonop het Buffelspoort ‘n promosie gehad. As jy twee nagte in Februarie bespreek jy twee nagte gratis. Van ons lede het vir gratis en verniet langer gebly. Dit alles vir net R 870.00. Vanjaar het ons ‘n Combined rally gereel by Buffelspoort. Ons wou al die streke van Area C uitnooi om op een naweek saam te kamp.

Ongelukkig was dit te ver vir Verre Noord. Ons was altesaam 89 karavane. Dit was 7 karavane minder as twee jaar terug se 4 Ster wat Jakaranda aangebied het. Jakaranda was 38 lede met 12 besoekers. Pretoria was 20 lede en 1 besoeker. Magalies was 13 lede met 3 besoekers. Die verrassing was dat daar 2 lede van Rustenburg was wat ook saam gekamp het. Baie welkom aan Thys en Brenda Swart wat net na die saamtrek aangesluit het om deel te word van ons Jakaranda familie. Hulle is vriende van Wallie & Colette en ek weet dat hulle dit sommer baie sal geniet by Jakaranda. Jakaranda groei nog steeds. Ons is tans 96 lede. Wat ‘n trots en lekkerte is dit nie om deel te wees van so ‘n familie nie.

Ek en Coena het die naweek aangebied. Dankie Michelle en Deidre en Arrie vir julle harde werk. Deidre is my ou staatmakertjie wat altyd help met oorgawe. Ons het ‘n lekker gholftoernooi aangebied Saterdagoggend. Daar was altesaam 20 Golfers wat deelgeneem het op Buffelspoort se 9 putjie Golfbaan. Voor die aanvang van die toernooi moes elke Gholfer eers ‘n ‘’shooter’’ drink net om hom te beskerm teen die son en die vlieende gholfballe. Leon van der Walt en sy span van Pretoria Streek het die Gholf gewen. Michelle J van Rensburg het die prys gewen vir die ou wat die stadigste gespeel het. Met die Put – Putt het dit ook baie goed gegaan. Ons het altesaam 24 scorecards gekry. Baie geluk aan Frik Botha wat die wenner van die Putt – Putt was. Coena het die raffle gewen en kry sodoende ‘n gratis naweek by Buffelspoort. Saterdagaand se Straatbraai was awesome. Volgens die Braai en Kuier lys was daar meer as 250 mense by die braai. Dit was baie lekker om so baie mense te onthaal. Kampeerders is mos maklike mense hulle hou juis van lekker kuier. Dankie vir almal wat wat van die naweek ‘n lekker saamtrek gemaak het. Sondagaand se kuier om die braai vure was net so lekker. Dit was vir ‘n slag lekker om nie op ‘n Sondag huistoe te keer nie.

Werna Slabbert van Pretoria het vir ons die Sondagskool gegee. Tussen al die Streke was daar 31 kindertjies. Werna het ‘n lekker groot klassie gehad. Nuwe lede en al ons gaste moet onthou dat ons by elke saamtrek om 9 uur Sondagoggend ‘n Sondagskool vir al ons kindertjies het. Al ons gaste se kinders is natuurlik ook baie welkom.

As North Coast Region, we never say no to challenges. Lourens, our Chairman, in the spur of the moment, accepted this challenge, then realised he should have thought about it first and also discussed it with his Committee which, after a WhatsApp 'meeting' message, all agreed to it as well.

Then we actually wondered if the members would 'buy' into this crazy idea. Well, we sent out the message Thursday morning and within minutes the first Rally fees were paid in and the ball was on the roll...

Our members started talking and organizing on our WhatsApp group and we are very proud to say that 20 members joined us rallying in and around their homes. Some had a space problem but improvised and joined as for a braai set up.

Some members paid even more money when they heard that we decided that the monies received would be donated for a good cause during this Covid-19 period eg: through an organisation that provide food to the elderly people in our town.

Some members' imaginations' worked overtime.. so much so that Lourens was called to 'turn back' to go and assist a member having problems with his vehicle...

We even had Friendlies this morning with members wearing their Club shirts, stoutetjies being enjoyed by the men and the most divine eats for everyone.

During the weekend everyone kept putting pictures on our group which I will put on our Facebook page later as well as combining them together with a bit of a write up to send to Anton and Liesl to add to the Homestead Newsletter. A special disk will also be handed out to the members who took part in this Rally (picture will be added to photos). Thanks to Anton for the great idea, our members loved it.

What started as a suggestion out of pure frustration became a reality. A suggestion to do

a stay at home rally was proposed to the South Rand Region members. The response

from the members was amazing as they did not hesitate to buy in on this crazy idea.

The idea was then rolled out to the rest of the CCSA regions with a challenge to join the

South Rand Region in this “crazy idea” as the North Coast region named it. The challenge

/ invite was posted on social media and extended to the “Kampmal” and “Kamp forum”

and other campers to join us.

The weekend of 1st May to 3 May 2020 was selected. The same date of the cancelled

Goefy Games rally that was planned to take place at Loskop Dam. It was slow in the

beginning but as the WhatsApp’s started to come through more and more members

joined.

That weekend the house was locked, alarms were set, the lawn mower was locked up and the paint tins were put away. Setting up camp attracted the attention of the neighbours who looked at us with a frown on their foreheads. Surely, they must have been thinking that we are crazy, but they should know that we are passionate campers.

Friday night there was a Webex meeting between a few members and the weekend

began. Throughout the weekend the excitement was visible as the WhatsApp messages

and the Facebook postings came through. Although we all camped in our own back yards

the feedback was fantastic.

Saturday morning was the traditional breakfast after staying in bed till late. The photos

streamed in of the different set ups with proud members displaying their regional flags.

As per a normal weekend, the members were coming up with their own enthusiastic

games to keep them busy. Some members even introduced us to their imaginary visitors

for the rally, the Goefy twins were in attendance but were very disappointed in their dad’s

absence. I was amazed by the creativity shared by the members.

On short notice Noddy from “Om die Kampvuur” at Hosa radio entertained us Saturday

night while we were all in bed listening to all the requests for music to be played. Noddy

entertained us from 18:00 to 11:00 and played great music.

A total of 86 caravans, that is fantastic! I know there was a lot of members

following us the weekend and I am sure they will join in next time. If I have

missed one or two, I do apologize.

The feedback received from the members and other regions was heart-

warming and this make it an absolute pleasure to be part of the CCSA as it

proves that CCSA is very much still alive.

In place of a Chairman’s Tea I sent out a very nervous recording closing off

the rally. I predict that the following virtual rally will attract more members

and even interest from the social campers.

The question now is WHO IS GOING TO HOST THE NEXT VIRTUAL RALLY?!

Met die Covid -19 pandemie kan ons mos nie gaan kamp nie. Wanneer ons ooit weer by

‘n saamtrek gaan uitkom weet ons nie. Jakaranda het besluit as ons nie mag na die

Oorde toe gaan nie bring ons die Oorde na ons huise toe. Ons het die naweek van 30

Mei 2020 ‘n saamtrek gereel by ons eie huise. Dit was die eerste keer dat so iets gereel

is en dit was baie lekker. Ons kan nie toelaat dat die lockdown ons heeltemal uit ons

karavane hou nie.

Die naam van die saamtrek was Oppiwerf want elke ou kamp op sy eie werf. Elke

staanplek het sy eie ablusie en sy eie kombuis self die troeteldiere kon ook saam kamp.

Boonop was dit ‘n goedkoop naweek met geen reis onkoste en parkfooie nie. Daar was

geen sekeriteit wat ‘n ou kom stil maak as jy tot laat om die vure gekuier het nie.

Ons was altesaam 29 Oppiwerf kampers waarvan 27 Jakaranda lede was en dan 2

besoekers.

Ons het heeltyd op WhatsApp met mekaar gekuier. Fotos, videos en musiek gestuur en

heeltyd gesels. Ons het by die Jakaranda tradisies gehou, Vrydagaand almal welkom

geheet. Saterdagaand ‘n gesamentlike kuier gehad. Sondag oggend die tradisionele

Jakaranda koffie selfs ‘n kort Chairmans tea gehou wat op ‘n video opgeneem is. Vir die

besige kampers is daar selfs ‘’Hoese’’ uitgedeel wat hulle by die eerste saamtrek wat ons

weer bymekaar is moet rekenskap voor gee. Die komittee het besluit om vir elke

Oppiwerf kamper ‘n spesiale disc te gee.

Dit was regtig baie lekker. Ek kon die verlange en die samehorigheid voel onder die lede.

Jakaranda is tops. Ons kan nie wag om weer bymekaar te wees met die volgende regte

kamp nie. As die lockdown nog langer aanhou gaan ons beslis weer so ‘n saamtrek reel.

We want to thank Deon Oosthuizen for this Historical 'home camp rally' initiative he took. It made these 52 days Covid-19 Lockdown, and those days that are yet to come more bearable. We speak on behalf of all 27 caravan owner’s, their spouses, children and grandchildren who were part of this weekend.

Vaalies baie dankie vir julle deelname aan ons "lockdown kamp" al was ons nie bymekaar nie het ons heerlik gekuier op WhatsApp en was dit regtig great gewees. Julle is awesome. Mooi loop. Bly warm en pas julleself op.

Considering the difficulties I experienced getting members to man the stand, the final result was exceptionally successful. I am sure all the members that did man the stand will concur.From my personal experience I believe there is a demand for caravan clubs, but it appears there is not enough information in the public space.I do believe we have to be more visible in the printed media, online and at the various shows related to outdoor activities.

A topic of discussion has been the change of the CCSA logo, this has been discussed at numerous lengths at many different meetings.It has been decided that the LOGO will stay the same, as we don’t want to lose or identity.

BUT under our “umbrella” will be all the options that will be included.

Gas explosion is becoming a number one killer in the society. Please, you don't have to shake the gas cylinder to know the level of its content.

What you should do is to wet a side of the cylinder with water, after a while the used top part will be dry while the lower part with gas will remain wet. The wet portion tells you the amount of gas left. Most times we shake our gas cylinders to know if it's finished or not, that's a dangerous thing to do. It could be suicidal!
