I walk into the bathrooms and am immediately overwhelmed by the smell of smoke mixed with some sort of cleaning product and the faint odor of chicken. I see cigarettes thrown across the floor, paper towels stuffed in the sink, and stalls with graffiti and profan-ity drawn all over them.

Cringing, I hold my breath and open the door, noticing the broken locks and greasy handles. I push each door open just a little bit to make sure that the stall is at least semi-clean, keeping in mind that one can never expect too much on the subject of cleanliness from the Westhill bathrooms. As I go to twist the faucet to wash my hands, not only do I realize that

many of the sinks are broken due to student abuse, but the soap is completely depleted and the pa-per towels are gone. Usually, if there are any paper towels left, I use them to avoid actually having to touch the faucet.

Students litter and vandalize the bathrooms every day, making them more and more unusable. However, the bathrooms in the Freshman and the Agri-Science buildings always appear to have a higher level of cleanliness than those of the other buildings. These two buildings are newer than the Raynor and Finch buildings, which could be one of the reasons why these bathrooms are cleaner. Moreover, both the Freshman and the Agri-Science buildings get less traffic than the two main buildings, which could also explain their cleanliness.

Westhill bathrooms typically start out clean at the beginning of the day but tend to get progressively worse with each bell. The Westword decided to photograph the girls’ bathroom in the 200s every period to see how its sanitary condi-tion changed during the course of a day. “If there is one thing that should change about Westhill, it’s the cleanliness

of the bathrooms,” sophomore Michelle Yang said.
