A DOZEN TIPS FOR GREENING YOUR BUSINESS

1. Stock bathrooms with 100% recycled tissue products. Some tissue manufacturers needlessly destroy forests when they turn virgin wood into throw-away paper products.

2. Buy in bulk to help reduce carbon footprint on deliveries.

3. Avoid using disposable cups. Having employees use reusable mugs or water bottles may not only help reduce costs, but it can also reduce the amount of material that ends up in landfi lls.

4. Install timers or motion sensors to regulate lighting in areas that are not regularly occupied (e.g.: bathrooms, break rooms, storage closets).

5. Install low-fl ush toilets and water restrictors on faucets.

6. Minimize travel for meetings by encouraging teleconferences or online meetings.

7. Set your printers to print double-sided, or designate a draft tray and fi ll it with paper that’s blank on one side.

8. Turn off lights and unplug electronics after hours -- computers and other electronics use energy while they’re plugged in, even when they’re switched off. (Plug all your appliances into a power strip and you’ll only have to fl ip one switch at the end of the day.)

9. Buy low-VOC cleaners to help improve indoor air quality and reduce potential risks to employee health.

10. Use white boards to replace sticky notes.

11. Recycle toner cartridges and buy refi lled toner cartridges.

12. Use Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs). CFLs will cost more initially than incandescent bulbs, but they will reduce your energy usage signifi cantly and last longer.
