WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT?
Dual Credit is an opportunity for eligible high school students to enroll in college courses and earn

ARE YOU READY FOR COLLEGE?
• Can I problem solve?
• Am I self-motivated?
• Do I have clear goals?
• Am I willing to make sacrifices in order to achieve my goals? That means giving up some of my extracurricular and free time to work on studies.
• Do I have good study habits?
• Do I have a good work ethic, get to school on time, turn in assignments, and try my best?
Students, if you find yourself saying
no to most of these questions, spend your high school years working on these important life skills.
Parents, if your son or daughter is not
ready, allow them the opportunity to mature while still in high school.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS?
COMMUNICATE WITH COUNSELORS AND PARENTS REGARDING DUAL CREDIT INFORMATION, SCHOOL DEADLINES, AND PAYMENT INFORMATION.
COLLEGE ENROLLMENT IS SEPARATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL COURSE SELECTION, JUST BECAUSE YOU SELECT DUAL CREDIT AT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE ENROLLED OR REGISTERED.
NOTIFY SCHOOL COUNSELOR AND NCTC OF ANY CHANGES IN SCHEDULE.
NOTIFY NCTC OF ANY CHANGES (ADDS OR DROPS/WITHDRAWS) TO THE NCTC SCHEDULE AND COMPLETE THE NECESSARY PAPERWORK.
EXPECTATIONS CONTINUED?
PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THEIR INSTRUCTOR'S SYLLABUS AND GRADING CRITERIA.
ATTEND CLASS. MISSING CLASS COULD RESULT IN FAILING THE COURSE.
INSTRUCTORS HAVE ACADEMIC FREEDOM TO DISCUSS CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES OR SUBJECT
MATTER THAT HIGH SCHOOL COURSES MAY NOT ADDRESS.
FOLLOW THE COLLEGE GUIDELINES, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES.
BE PREPARED TO INVEST TIME OUT-OF-CLASS COLLEGE COURSE ASSIGNMENTS.
Talk with your child regarding the responsibilities of dual credit: school deadlines, financial investment and priorities.
Allow your child to take ownership for success and responsibility for failures.
Success will depend on their self-motivation, discipline, organizational skills, study habits, and time management. Encourage your child to develop these important skills .
Grit is a good indicator of success. Don’t let your child give up when faced with challenges.
Support and encourage students to become independent and to advocate for themselves. Don’t run to rescue them.
Encourage them to establish open communication with their instructors. If they are experiencing challenges in a course, the student will need to contact their instructor.
