Why do an intervention?

Doing a one-time test only provides a snapshot of your microbes at a single point in time. This means your sample is compared to a reference database of a healthy population. Whilst this carries its own merit, your microbiome is a collection of numerous factors, completely unique to you. This means that the best way to truly get the most value and insights from microbiome testing, is to compare your microbiome to you!

Your microbiome: before & afterScientists have shown diet can rapidly change your composition. By taking action and making some lifestyle changes, you can test how your gut reacts, and see how that affects your microbial profile. In this way, you can quickly move forward with new adjustments after your intervention.

What you get:– 2x Gut Kits– 2x 16S Sequencing– Guidance throughout your intervention – Final Wellness Report featuring: ° Your microbiome results before and after ° Your current gut status ° Your microbial levels of common IBS triggers ° Gut health tools for digestive support ° New dietary recommendations

Taxonomy

Microbes are categorised based on different groups. You can see the different levels in the taxonomic pyramid. The highest level are the phyla, which contain all the other levels, and the most specific are the species.

Molly, this is how your microbiome changed during yourintervention:

Microbial diversity is calculated by using Shannon Diversity Index, a hybrid measure of richness and evenness of your species.

Your microbial richness was stable

Microbial richness refers to the number of species present in your gut – the more there are, the greater your score.

High microbial richness and diversity are generally considered to indicate a healthy gut microbial community. A high microbial diversity helps your gut deal with different foods and environments. Microbial richness appears to be strongly associated with microbial richness.

Molly, there were notable changes to your microbial compositionThere are a number of microbial groups, or phyla, that define your gut. Below, you can see an illustrated overview of the composition of your personal microbiome. The exact composition of these groups will change from person to person.

Your F/B ratio improved

This indicator is used as a marker of body type. Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes are the two largest microbial groups. Studies show that higher levels of Bacteroidetes are correlated with weight loss and lean body mass, whereas higher caloric intake increases Firmicutes. Western cultures with more dense diets usually skew in favour of Firmicutes.

Akkermansia muciniphilacommensal; weight-loss

0.2 11.3 Health-beneficial microbe associated with lean body weight. Great progress with your levels!

Bacteroidescommensal; weight-loss; plant-eater

20.8 26.4Help us digest the vegetable and whole-grain

components of a low-fat diet. Your recent plant-based focus helped populate your gut with them.

Bifidobacteriacommensal; probiotic 5.2 7.6

Known beneficial probiotic health benefits, these bacteria prevent diarrhea, reduce food allergies,

and inhibit growth of pathogens. Awesome to see your levels improved!

Blautiacommensal 6.1 3.3

Strong indicator of a healthy gut. Uses the gas pro-duced by Dorea spp. which may explain its elevated

levels in IBS. Lowering your levels helps reduce your risk of digestive distress.

Coprococcuscommensal; weight-loss; SCFA producer

3.3 6.4Linked to weight loss and leaner body types.

Some species also make butyrate and propionate, which can help regulate your appetite and weight.

Faecalibacteriumprausnitzii commensal; weight-loss

11.3 4.8Anti-inflamatory commesal microbe shown to

support relief in Crohn’s disease relief. Your levels could be higher.

Lachnospiracommensal;butyrate-producer

3.5 1.4

Part of the family Lachnospiraceae, whose members are thought to help protect against colon

cancer in humans by producing butyric acid. Your levels could be higher.

Lactobacilluscommensal; probiotic 40.7 23.6

Aids digestion. Some types are associated with less diarrhea, gas and bloating and can help

people better digest lactose. Going dairy-free during your intervention likely led to this reduction.

Roseburiacommensal; weight-loss; plant-eater

0.8 0.6

Linked to weight loss and leaner body types. Help digest complex carbohydrates in wholegrains and are higher in high-fiber diets. Your levels remained relatively stable, but would be even better higher.

Salmonella entericapathogenic

N/A N/AOften pathogenic (disease-causing), known to

lead to an infection called Salmonellosis. It was not detected in your samples.

Molly, this is your current status for key microbes noted for their importance in digestive wellness.

Digestive SupportGut microbes have an important role in the digestion of dietary components, resulting in metabolites that can – directly or indirectly – contribute to symptoms such as bloating, gas, constipation and diarrhea. Here, you can see how your levels of these important microbes have changed during your intervention.

Major gas producing bacteria in the human gut which has been

Recomm

endations

Molly, based on your results, we have the following key suggestions we recommend you focus on. These will help you improve your digestion and ease your symptoms.

Lower Veillonella

– Consume a mix of probiotic strains (Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Propionibacteriumfreudenreichii spp.shermanii and Bifidobacterium breve) for 6 months, recommended dosage 8-9 x 10^9 CFU per day.

– Avoid a low FODMAP diet.

Lower Dorea

– Avoid an animal-based diet.

– Eat more β-gluten-rich foods such as barley (alternatively oats if you are on a gluten free diet) for 5 weeks.

Increase Faecalibacterium prausnitzii

– Consume more fruit, especially apples.

– Consume more inulin-rich food sources (e.g. artichokes, asparagus and leeks). At least 10g per day has been shown to increase levels after 16 days.

Increase Lachnospira & Other Butyrate-producers

– Increase intake of fructo-oligosaccharides, galacto-oligosaccharides and inulin. These can be found in onions, garlic, banana, chicory, soy-beans, globe artichokes, wheat and oats.

– Include 1-3 servings of pistachios per day. (1 serving = 25g.)
