Yes, they have started with some expertise, in some field,such as, either in production or technical or marketing etc.But not just but almost 99% are under the impression that

they know every thing and thus they suffer more.

As is fact, 60% of brain power of small business

owner is utilized in financial adjustments![ please note - I am not saying financial Management- asthere's never enough money available and hence where's thequestion of managing finance!] its only adjustment.

s expected things do not happen, they try to adjust.Many borrow at high interest thinking that out of 100 only 2 or 4 to 5 rupees are to be paid as interest

[ per month ] and out of gross 20% they THINK, it can beeasily paid, but where they go wrong? because out of gross,net is left hardly 3 or 4% and when such high interest is paid,entire net profit is washed away, and when payment fromcustomer delays even for one more month, they get intoRED.....

Further they implement ‘economy drive’ in wrong places; such as curtailing marketing expenses or marketing budget and it brings down interest of marketing people,dealers, distributors, retailers and then when such seasoned

people drift away, sales further crumples down and

everything gets into messy situation.

Commitments only from others!

Just recall, how many commitments owners keep up? Butthey go on repeating about commitment to supplier toemployees to every one who gets into their orbit!Commitment can not be `one way must be from both ends’and further when employees and others see that you keep up

your commitments, not only they respect you but they willalso try to do the same. But exactly opposite is observed,isn’t it?

Nobody else can do their business betterway, than them!

False thinking. If that was the case, then

why you are in so much trouble?

Why good people do not stay with you?

Why you don’t have good bank balance? or assets?Some will say, he has made lot of money but then ask him, how many times, he had peaceful dinner withhome people!

Agreed you have done 4 good things but one or twowrong things have taken you back to the starting

point!

If some one has to guide you - when you are reversingyour car, and you say the guide does not knowdriving! [ to tell you - on the other corner NO ONE isthere, and safely you can drive back, does he or sheneed to know driving!].

Please try to realise, small things canmake great difference in betterment of your business, your success and b'coz of that, peace athome too can be improved, isn't it?

Further such guidance, many expect to be at lowestcost and also most of them wrongly, calculate onsalary like and think small amount should be morethan enough. But they forget that, for such guidance,what they have to spend for one person, at hotel, withlittle addition can be done for ten or more number of

people, very much at their own training hall. Further they forget, in one day’s such session, what they gain,comes from decades of efforts, experience gatheredby such speakers, or say trainers, who devote theirlife , to get matters to the mind of his people, to getaction from them.

Also even if, turn-over is 5 to 10 crores, they do notwant to spend even 0.2% and they go on saying, “theycan’t afford such training or guidance” . But willspend much more on things which are not needed! e.g.office decoration, own table, chair or rest room! or car

up-holstery! Also, they forget, its not just for oneemployee, but for many of their employees and mostof the time, they get precious guidance, from suchspeakers, guide, who are highly experienced, totallyfree of cost! i.e. they pay for employees only.

Doctor never enquires, “whether you can afford theoperation”, but tells you that such operation is must.But to this owner, businessman has no one to tell thatsuch guidance / training is must for growth of hisorganisation, for his profits and for his own

betterment.

ome owners, go to home at 2 pm for lunch, take restand come at 5 pm and ask employees that so and sostatement is urgent and they must make it today. So

till 7.30 pm the employee/s helplessly sit and withoutinterest do the work and make more mistakes and then theyfind, for their horror, after a week, statement is un-opened by

boss and is lying in boss drawer from the day it was given!What happiness owner can get from this? Page 3 of 8

And in such hurry, when mistakes are made for taxmatters, who pays heavy penalty? Its owner, you!

So best thing is, to tell such important matters, well inadvance. Or atleast tell them in morning to give statement

by evening. And with fewer mistakes, with interest they willdo the work.

Forget HR wing, but rarely HRDactivities can be seen!!!

B’coz most do not know, value of employees. Once theycome to know, that employees are SOUL of anyorganisation. When youtell something to your adolescent son, he says `yes Dad’ butdoes “what he likes!” Same way employee says, `yes boss’and does just what is told and not with devotion or interest.So only, such guidance from out-sourced expert works.

Procrastination by Owners / Partners /Directors

Many said, they come across businessmen, who do not sayno, but get into procrastination and every time, give someexcuse and may be false way they are thinking that theyhave saved the small charges! But in reality they are losingmulti lakhs to multi-crores due to such delay. Ask anysuccessful businessman and he will say that “all thesuccessful firms train their employees regularly”

rong thing in small firms is Boss listeningonly to few guys and then others feel, its

partiality. Do not listen regarding anycomplaint in absentia of other party. I.e. all

concerned should be available, at the time of discussions.And you will not only solve such problems across the table

but you will be respected too...

WIn case of some mishap, most of the small firm owners are

You know, you have sacrificed best of your years, togrow this business and if you do not groom some one, whatcan happen to this business?

Many owners have accountant’s mentality , such as anemployee costs my company so much or so and so, other way round, he needs to think that because of assistancefrom employees only, he has car, he has ownhome, he has many other comforts and thus hehas to take CARE OF EMPLOYEES .... TOTAKE CARE OF HIS BUSINESS.

Owner has to prove that he cares his socialresponsibilities . So he needs to actively take part in

betterment of down trodden by donating or any such activity.

Owner has to project himself as a model, as aleader , as a parent and then only employees will doeverything for the organisation - the firm.

ut many have rest room, with grand bed, pillows,TV, freeze and some owners go one step further and watch match or certain TV programs or serials during working hours.... but expect that

employees must work - non-stop as they are payingsalaries, forgetting that employees are human beings. I didcome across owners, who were worried because their employees keep talking to each other! Dear owner, if thatwas the only happening, then how you would have got allthe statements, works done! You are not handling slaves butemployees to grow your business. Owner’s need tounderstand that

BHEY ARE LIKE ENGINE OF ATRAIN and bogies will go as fast as theengine takes. But when a business owner iseither sleeping in the next room, or watchingmatch or watching some program, what

but then, why it should be in same premises of office? Either go to home or hire one room somewhere within a km or twofrom your office and take rest, see program, see match .... no

problem. To improve your business thru better good will, as done bycorporates; keep some time, everyday, for outstationvisitors, whether sales people or other, as they did notknow about your name, phone number, firm name to takeappointment and within 5 minutes you can understand, andthe visitor too can understand, whether his matter is useful toyou or not. If you are tide up in some activity, direct suchvisitors to concerned sub-ordinate, official. They arespending time, money, taking efforts to visit your firm andsometimes, because of such meeting you would be able tosee that, you will be saving lakhs of rupees per annum or your immediate problem is solved or can be solved or youwill get precious knowledge atleast. And above all you willEarn tremendous good will too.

hen you find some thing good from a supplier, promote the supplier, among some of your customers, say just 10 numbers and the supplier

will promote you in turn to double the numbers! Who gains!Every one.WEvery sales / marketing person has been given some buffer in price or atleast he will interact with management and getyou good discount IF you treat him good way! Yes, I havecome across many owners who used to send there car todrop the sales guy or take him for lunch or spend good timewith him or her for technical discussion and for doing this,

they have saved, not just one or two thousand but in manycases 25,000 and above! Just calculate, if 8 such supplier salesmen can save your couple of lakhs in a year, will it notadd to you net profit!Further such sales people will become your unpaid PROs asthey will spread good name for you, talk nice about you andhave respect for you.

lso every sales person is hungry for orders andhence if you negotiate - with above mentionedtreatment - you will certainly get good price too.A

Never act BUSY with supplier.

Why? You are forgetting, you get credit and because of such credit only, you are able to produce your product or

because of such credit you are able to Earn profit and wemust have gratitude for such help from supplier but usually,they are directed to accounts dept., as if, purchase people or owners are only to release purchase orders and once materialis received, you have nothing to do with such matters! Is itnot ridiculous? Where's the commitment?

In Purchase order payment terms are mentioned and onceyou receive material - should we make situation of supplier so pathetic? Think again... how far its right? Same thingcan happen to you. So let us begin good way, at leastnow….

when its win-win for every one concerned.So dear businessman take steps from now on and

spend time with suppliers and truly speaking, they areyour life line , yes or no?YSo dear businessman, remove from mind that "Well is theWorld" , come out of the well and you will see so much youhave to achieve and it is but natural, you need to put inefforts.

We learnt Internet browsing, email by spending time andmoney, right? Then for business success, should we nothave guidance or try to do every thing on own? Your trialand error way doing things, costs you not just money butmany years of your life and you have to go thru mentaltorture! Why? Because simple thing is many donot know, what they don't know!
