DESCRIPTION

While And Cooling Services has a great focus on the “Cooling” portion our business we do have other services that we can help you with. A lot of times while working on Air Conditioners we run into problems with the power source to the AC Unit, cue the Electrician. As we promote maintenance on your Air Conditioning Unit we also recommend at least once per year an inspection of your electrical panel. Most of the time when there is a problem it is not easily seen by the naked eye nor does it show on the side of the panel you can see (the breakers). More times than not your break panel can look completely fine however the back of it is entirely melted, leaving your home vulnerable to an electrical fire. Whether it is one breaker that has melted or the entire panel it is now susceptible to catching your open wires or even dust on fire. After about 10 – 12 years it is recommended to have all of your breakers replaced, also keeping in mind that replacing them is often less expensive than having them all tested. If you have some lights in your home that are flickering and or diming when your AC turns on or any other large appliance then it is in your best interested to get your panel inspected. Two more tips for you to be aware of when it comes to electric issues in your home. If you have an older home you want to ensure that you have GFI outlets around any place in your home where water is prevalent: kitchen, bathroom, wet bar, and outside. GFI outlets keep you from getting electrocuted, they were introduced in 1983 and became required by code in 1985. If your home is older and you are not sure if your outlets are up to code, please give us a call we’d be happy to take a look for you. Another thing to do when you have an older home is look at your electrical panel and see if it is a Federal Pacific Panel. These panels have orange markings on the breaker and/or say Federal Pacific somewhere on them. They were manufactured and installed in 1978 and were recalled in 1980 due to some serious issues, such as breakers not tripping and overheating to eventually start on fire as well as not being able to shut the breaker off. If you have a Federal Pacific Panel please get it inspected ASAP. When it comes to electrical issues it is far better to be safe than sorry, something as simple as an outlet not working to phantom switches (light switches that don’t turn anything on or off) could be a recipe for disaster. Have someone come out and take a look. And Cooling Services is running a special for our electrician to come out and do a panel inspection and answer any questions you have for only $49. Give us a call today. 941-234-4050 www.andcooling.com
