Every component in DUOL air dome benefits from 20 years of experiences

and high investment in R&D.

DUOL engineers the structure to meet the same code requirements

established for permanent buildings. All DUOL’s constructions are produced

according to the European standard EN 13782.

This standard specifies safety requirements which need to be observed at

design, calculation, manufacture, installation, maintenance, operation,

examination and testing of mobile, temporary installed tents more than 50

m2 ground area. The content of this European Standard collects the different

existing national regulations and guidelines as far as possible.

DUOL’s final product is certified with ISO management system 9001 as

well in compliance with standard EN 13782, means we keep in all

calculations reserve as requested with this standard.

With Duol air-supported structures a variety of professional and recreational

DUOL Air Domes offer the advantage of quick erection and the possibility of

1. PREPARING FOUNDATIONS

Preparing foundations, drilling and

inserting anchors (build in anchors are

added within filling with concrete).

2. STRETCHING THE MEMBRANE

During stretching and joining membrane

additional help from local peoples are

required (usually 20-25), fore some

hours. Pallets with membrane are placed

on the right position by crane or lift fork.

3. PLACING HEATING-INFLATION UNIT

4. ANCORAGING MEMBRANE

Anchoring system depends on the type

(seasonal or permanent) and on the size

of air dome. Pipes or L bars are usually

used for fixing the membrane.

5. INFLATING THE DOME

Inflating of the dome is done in

windless conditions. Inflating takes

20-50 min depending of the size of

the structure.

EMERGENCY UNIT

Reliability and safety are the most important

features of Duol structures, and the emergency

source of power is a critical item that must not be

left to chance.

Duol emergency units, special designed for air

domes, include three models:

The difference between the units is in the flow of

air. Each model has three possible versions:

The emergency unit consists of diesel engine or/and 380V

electric motor, connected to a centrifugal fan, that provides

constant pressure inside the dome in normal conditions.

Emergency unit automatically starts when the pressure inside

the dome is low, the main power is interrupted, in high wind

speeds. The pre-calibrated factory operating pressure is ca.

200 Pa or according to specific user requested.

When the pressure drops below of security limit the electric

motor become operational. Diesel engine intervenes only

when the electricity fails.

Our system of double engine diesel and electric providers a

substantial savings – 50% of energy the electric operational

system under normal atmospheric conditions (windless,

snow, heating) can maintain the pressure inside the dome

instead of the main generators.

ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS

WIND SPEED DETECTION SYSTEM

Our wind speed detection system is the most advanced automatic system available. It uses modern

computerized controls for interior pressure, heating and monitoring. The emergency unit is

switched on by the system in case of strong wing in order to maintain the right pressure inside the air

dome.

AIR GENERATORS WITH MODULATING SYSTEM

The control system proportionally decreases or increases burner’s heat output as the appliance

temperature approaches the set point. There is an automatic variation of the burner’s heat output

depending on requirements. With this system you can optimize consumption. This system provides

up to 35% saving. (In non-modulating system there is only one firing rate here: on or off and it fires

at its maximum rate whenever the burner is on.)

Transparent membrane offers even grater light

transmission, offering additional energy saving and

pleasant indoor environment.

ENERGY SAVING OPTIONS

INTELLIGENT ENERGY CONTROL (INTELLERGY)

Duol has integrated a state of the art Intelligent Energy

Control (Intellergy) into the inflation unit to enhance

system controllability, stability and efficiency.

Intellergy offers constant real-time supervision of the air

domes activity and vital technical data with alarming. This

DUOL high-tech system is connected to various sensors

and relays which are gathered in the main unit and from

there transferred through LAN internet cable or GPRS

signal to the internet server. Data is there processed,

logged and displayed in a different graphs and tables. For each data an alarm can be adjusted to

inform the air domes user with SMS on mobile phone. In this way the customer has total surveillance

over the air domes pressure, temperature, lighting, alarms … For some selected parameters remote

managing can also be adjusted (lighting, heating...).

DE-STRATIFICATION SYSTEM

De-stratification system improve temperature distribution

in the space and reduce the time needed to reach the

innovative air pocket solution which

Standard Duol membranes are UV resistant, but with use of special lacquering finish like

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) or Titanium dioxide (TiO²) this resistance is even better, what

DURABILITY / LIFE EXPECTANCY

In DUOL double membrane system, the replacement of the membrane is

not required and the life expectancy is extended to 40+ years, based

on tests, experiences and existing projects.

NATURAL LIGHT

As both membranes are highly translucent, the use of lighting system

is not required during the daytime, what leads to big electric energy

savings.

FIRE RESISTANCE

All membranes are fire retardant, certificated by following certificates:

M2/NFP 92-507, TEST 2/NFPA 701, CSFM T19, B1/DIN 4102-1, BS

7837, B1/0N0RM B 3800-1, M2/UNE 23.727, VKF 5.3/SN 198898 and

others.

RIGIDITY

With mechanical resistance and specific porosity design our fabrics

provide excellent dimensional stability, structural strength and wind

protection. Thanks to DUOL expanded double membrane system, the

DUOL domes are very rigid and vandalism resistant. In case of any

damage on the outer membrane, the inner membrane still hold the

proper air tightness and consequently pressure – air dome stability.

STORM PROTECTION

DUOL dome has an automatic safety back-up system, which

control the air dome pressure and stability in case of storm

and high wing.

SNOW

The shape of the air dome, which is designed depending of its

size and considering the weather conditions of its destination,

totally flat surface and lacquering finishes, ensure that the

snow slides form the air dome.

CONDENSATION

Thanks to excellent insulation, achieved by DUOL expanded

double membrane system, there is no condensation inside

the air dome. Condensation is on inner side of the membrane

and in between all layers.

Duol heating units safely and efficiently heat the air structure to the desired temperature and

Duol is expert in designing air domes for extreme weather condition. We enhance all

elements (membrane, air generators, anchoring system…) to withstand extremely low

temperatures with strong winds and heavy snow.

Duol advanced technology allows installing air domes in extreme weather conditions without any

cables support.

In fact only one Duol air dome is supported with cables. This air dome is installed in Kamchatka in

far east of Russia, where winds quite often reach speed more than 50 m/s, alongside with heavy

snow. For other climate areas there is no need for cable support with Duol technology.

DUOL DOUBLE MEMBRANE SYSTEM vs CABLE NET SYSTEM

INSULATION

DUOL double membrane system provides excellent thermal insulation from 3W/m2K to 1.74W/m2K, measured

at Finnish Research Institute VTT. This is achieved by inflating the interspaces between two membranes with air

(approx. 50-100 Pa, compared to the air dome inside pressure). This slight overpressure ensures that the

membranes are always inflated, while the static air is an excellent insulator. Compared to cable net system,

which total thickness is only a couple of centimeters narrow, and offers a very poor insulation.

FIRE RESISTANCE

All membranes are fire retardant, certificated by following certificates: M2/NFP 92-507, TEST 2/NFPA 701,

CSFM T19, B1/DIN 4102-1, BS 7837, B1/0N0RM B 3800-1, M2/UNE 23.727, VKF 5.3/SN 198898. Compared

to cable net system, the layers are not fire safe, in fact they are extreme flammable, which presents a great risk

to the whole of the structure.

DURABILITY / LIFE EXPECTANCY

In DUOL double membrane system, the replacement of the membrane is not required and the life expectancy is

extended to 40+ years, based on tests, experiences and existing projects. Compared to cable net system,

where the layers have to be replaced every couple of years also due to friction between cables and fabric.

INTERNAL PRESSURE

The pressure kept in the DUOL domes is minimal, from 150-250 Pa in normal situations, what ensures perfect

stability in all weather conditions and less energy consumption. Compared to cable net system, which due to its

weight requires much bigger internal pressure (250-400Pa) which leads to much bigger electric energy

consumption.

DUOL DOUBLE MEMBRANE SYSTEM vs CABLE NET SYSTEM CONDENSATION

Thanks to excellent insulation, achieved by DUOL double membrane system, there is no condensation

phenomenon inside the air dome. In cable net system, because of poor insulation and big thermal bridges,there

is big risk for condensation on the outer side of the dome.

LOSE OF TRANSLUCANY

Duol fabric has self-cleaning characteristics and is absolutely maintenance free. Cable net system is great

obstacle for self-cleaning mechanism. Cables on the outer side of the membrane prevent the dirt, organics

microorganism… from sliding of the surface. Dirt cannot be totally removed, therefore translucency is reduced

what represents great costs for the client.

RIGIDITY

Thanks to DUOL expanded double membrane system, the DUOL domes are very rigid and vandalism resistant.

In case of any damage on the outer membrane, the inner membrane still hold the proper air tightness and

consequently pressure – air dome stability. Compared to cable net system, where in case of any membrane

damage there are big air losses and the structure stability is jeopardized.

SNOW

The shape of the air dome, which is designed depending of its size and considering the weather conditions

of its destination, totally flat surface and lacquering finishes, ensure that the snow slides from the air dome.

Compared to cable net system, where cables on the outer side of the membrane prevent the snow from sliding

of the surface, which lead to the snow accumulation and consequently to air dome collapse.

SEASONAL INSTALLATION / DISMANTLING

As two membranes are welded together, the installation process is extreme fast. Membrane should only to be

spread, connected and anchored and the erection of the dome can be made. This operation can take only a

few hours. The same is in seasonal dismantling. As the cable net system requires spreading of different layers,

connecting them and afterwards installation of metal net, the installation/dismantling process in significantly

longer and costs are higher.

Duol high intensity metal halide lightning systems utilize the highly efficient optical reflectors to

provide maximum lighting uniformly on the playing surface.

The inner ambient of the dome is lighted by proper quantity of the halogen lamps in two different

modes: directly or indirectly.

At direct lighting the lamps are mounted on the membrane to give light on the sports field directly,

at indirect lighting the lamps are installed on the metal poles and light up.

In order to maximize the amount of light in the

dome, we design our lighting system to reflect

off of the curved dome surfaces and bounce

back to the floor. The key is the highly

reflective fabric liner which was specially

formulated for need of reflectivity.

Duol’s innovative DuoLedTM lights are ideal solutions for all sport areas,

environments and conditions - from single tennis court to football stadium

and everything in between.

In addition to the huge savings in electricity, DuoLedTM also offer

significant savings due to reduced maintenance and replacement costs

thanks to Led’s durability and longer lifespan.

LED LIGHTS

We replaced the “traditional” lighting with DuoLedTM. Previously, the power consumption was higher

than 5 kWh and the average illumination was not satisfactory. The old lights were close to end of

life cycle and seldom exceeded 200 Lux on the ground. By adopting the DuoLedTM, tennis court is

now using less than 2,5 kWh with over 350 Lux average lighting and remarkable uniformity.

It is many possibilities, how to connect the membrane to the

concrete beam.

The rings with peg crossed by a metal tube or grounding anchor

with metal tube are used for temporary assembling – seasonal

use of the dome.

For permanent assembling the anchoring is done by metal profiles.

The anchors are mounted in to the concrete beam in a distance 1m,

around the perimeter.

The anchoring in some situation could be done also by auger

anchors, without any concrete foundation. Auger anchors are

grounded directly to the ground in the depth of 2mt.

With DUOL advanced anchorage system air loss around the base

perimeter is greatly reduced, providing savings on inflation.

single section of the fabric envelope. A series of

long aluminum or wooden bars create an air and

water tight flexible seal that is covered by heavy

duty fabric to eliminate leaks.

REVOLVING DOOR

One unique feature of air structures is their doors which are specifically designed for the continuous

positive pressure environment. There are three main types of doors used in air structures: Revolving

Doors for normal entry into the dome, Pedestrian Doors and Emergency Exit Doors.

Large equipment such as trucks can be brought into air structures by the use of a transport

tunnel. Two large overhead doors at each end of the tunnel are interlocked so that only one

door may be open at a time.

Transport tunnels use high strength doors and are available with remote control switches and

key locks. The roof of metal construction is covered by polyester fabric coated with PVC foil.

Walls of the tunnel are closed by metal sheets.

SAFETY VIEW

The air supported structure is an autonomic object, means in emergency situation it is

maintained by itself. Emergency heating unit provides the stability of the dome in a time of

blowing unit default or in a case of electricity break-down.

Each dome is equipped with certain number of emergency exits according to the dimension and

purpose of the dome. Fabric is fire-retardant and all mechanical equipment meets standards.

Unique structural design of air dome allows to stand heavy wind and snow loads and unlike

conventional buildings, there is less danger of collapsing debris in an earthquake.
