The Department of Transport and Main Roads has recently completed reconstruction works on the Bruce Highway from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 flood events. Reconstruction works from the 2013 flood events have recently started and will continue during 2014. Capital works projects are also continuing on the Bruce Highway throughout the Wide Bay/ Burnett Region. To assist motorists plan their travels and potentially seek alternative routes, the map provides details of where works are currently occurring and the anticipated delays. The department recommends that motorists factor additional travel time to their journey. At work sites, stop-and-go traffic arrangements are generally in place during work hours and reduced speed limits apply outside of work hours. Please slow down, drive to the changed traffic conditions and obey all signage at roadworks to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. The department appreciates your patience while these essential works are completed. The reconstruction works are being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, with the Australian Government providing 75% of the funding and 25% from the Queensland Government. There are also many capital projects along the highway. For more information about these projects, visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au. To minimise delays to motorists during the peak holiday season, there will be a Christmas shutdown period. Between Saturday 14 December 2013 and Sunday 5 January 2014 (inclusive), roadworks will not involve lane closures on the Bruce Highway. All roadworks sites will be opened to traffic and standard speed limits will be re-instated where possible. Gympie to Maryborough Additional travel time: allow 10 minutes (day) and 10 minutes (night) Reconstruction works will start in early November and are anticipated to be completed during December 2013. The reconstruction works will predominately include asphalt overlay and the works will generally take place between 6pm and 6am from Sunday to Friday.
