March 2012
In this special issue of the Whisper we celebrate some of our elite swimmers in
their preparation for the Olympic Trials. We also congratulate our swimmers that
raced in the Australian Open Water Championships in Perth, Western Australia.
Some of these swimmers would have started racing just like the little ones you see
at carnivals today. Some of these swimmers would have enjoyed the development
camps, that Widebay provide every year, to learn more about their sport. Some of
these swimmers would have enjoyed being part of their first international team tour
with the Widebay Development Squad to the New Zealand National Age Short
Course Champs. Each and every one of them has made their way through the
swimming rankings learning and racing faster along the way!

for excellence that
exists in sport,
and maybe
in life itself.’
Dawn Fraser
From little fish to BIG FISH!
Every four years Australian
Swimming celebrate their talent and
competitiveness at their Olympic
Trials. With such hot rivalry the
spaces for contention are few and
far between. The racing is tough,
fast (sometimes faster than the
Games themselves) and the most
enthralling of swimming carnivals
to enjoy. The Trials will be
televised from March 15th until the
22nd so make sure you take time
out to support and watch your
sport especially cheering for our
local Widebay swimmers.
In this article we salute, respect and wish all
the best to our contenders in the Trials. We
know how dedicated they are with their
sport. We know the time, effort and sheer
intensity of commitment to get to race at the
Trials. We acknowledge the background
support of parents, sponsors and friends.
We wish each and every swimmer competing
from the Widebay Region all the best in their
conquest. This is your time to shine!!

Sometimes it feels it just ain’t going your way!
EVERY swimmer along their journey in
swimming has moments of disappointment.
Sometimes you have to experience these
moments to really appreciate and be grateful
for the swims that make you feel fabulous!
THOSE swims, that seem the worst at the
time, will be the swims you learn from most!
Find out from your coach what you need to
learn to do to adjust and change to make a
better swim. Pick his or her brains to know
exactly what you need to do to fix up the swim.
If you don’t understand what your coach is
suggesting, then keep asking until you do!
Put into action those specific important bits of
information and notice the changes that happen!
And ENJOY your journey in the world of
learning your sport!
