Wildernesse House is a collection of 19 two-bedroom apartments on the upper floors of the original house, 4 one- and two-bedroom legacy apartments on the ground floor, and 8 two-bedroom mews houses in the newly built stable block. The leafy, southern part of the grounds will also host a collection of 39 apartments that will benefit from all the estate has to offer.

The way of life here is in keeping with that of a traditional English country house, with several areas designed to benefit the health, relaxation and social lives of those who live on the estate. THROUGH THE YEARS

Since as far back as the 14th century, the Wildernesse estate has played a vital role in local and national history. It has witnessed important events and welcomed famous figures, the details of which can be found today in the main house and its grounds. It is this history that will inform the future of the house and see the estate flourish in the 21st century.

by Sir Charles Bickerstaffe, Clerk of the Privy Seal.

He establishes a deer park here and gives the estate the name “Wilderness”.

the boundary of the grounds are planted to celebrate a visit from the Duke of Wellington.

Lord Hillingdon buys the estate and significantly expands and improves the house. Lord Hillingdon's daughter-in-law,

The

RESTORATION

Wherever you look at Wildernesse House, you'll notice the authentic details of the original house. Restoration experts at Purcell have preserved as many of the original features as possible. As heritage experts, leading architects and conservation consultants who have worked on many high-profile projects, including Kew Palace and Tower Bridge, their work has brought the history of Wildernesse House safely into the present day.

The hardwood doors have been repaired and revarnished and the parquet and mosaic-tiled floors have been restored to their gleaming best. The light fittings have been removed by hand, protected and refitted. Modern materials have been stripped from every ceiling, wall and column so that the original finishes can be seen wherever possible. The house is still heated by the cast-iron radiators in the main hall and the original grand fireplaces have been carefully refurbished.

At the end of the driveway, you'll find the main house reception. This area is fully staffed, so there's always a friendly face to greet you as you come into the house. This is where you'll find the General Manager, who will be happy to deal with any queries you have.

Beyond the lounge is the historic central staircase. The restored bookshelves line the walls in this part of the room, so you’ll always find a good book to settle down with in the lounge.

A bespoke spa covers the lower ground floor of the main house and is designed to relax and invigorate. For those looking to work out, there's the lap pool, gym and stretch studio. The rooms are positioned around a green central courtyard, so the space is light, quiet and refreshing.

The spa has its own welcoming reception, which sets the tone for a focus on health and wellbeing. The staff there can advise you about the treatments and classes on offer, and tell you about the benefits of the different areas of the spa.

Across the sloping lawns from the main house, the restaurant is a new structure that is reminiscent of the Victorian glasshouse that once stood beside the main building. With a façade that mirrors the graceful Romanesque arches found in the original house, this open-plan space is the social hub of Wildernesse House. Friends and neighbours come together at any time of the day to enjoy a bite to eat in the convivial atmosphere.

From the welcoming entrance lobby, you can see the informal café and kitchen. This is a casual dining area serving light meals and artisan products. The café serves delicious food for breakfast and lunch – you can also treat yourself to a classic afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones and jam. Or grab an espresso from the barista coffee bar, where drinks and snacks are served from morning till early afternoon.

The main restaurant is fitted with large tables that have been carved out of oak trees felled in the grounds. This is the place to enjoy a sit-down meal with table service. The seasonal dishes on offer source ingredients from local suppliers, from the kitchen garden just below the terrace, and from the orchard and fruit hedges further afield. A private dining area also provides an excellent space for entertaining friends and family.

The Wildernesse estate’s historic grounds cover hundreds of acres of the Kentish countryside. The Arcadian idyll that has influenced the area can still be seen today in the estate's landscaping. The village of Seal is a 10-minute walk from Wildernesse House. This charming village has a general store, an independent, family-run butcher and a delicatessen, as well as several pubs. A convenience store and a post office can also be found further along Seal Road, about a five-minute drive away. A doctor’s surgery, dental practice and hospital are all less than 1.5 miles away from the development. Always a popular destination in the summer, the Wildernesse Golf Course, with its dining room, club room and bar, is less than a 15-minute walk. There are some lovely walks to do in the area, particularly in Millpond Wood. You can find the wood just off Hillingdon Avenue, which is less than 25 minutes' walk away along Wildernesse Avenue.

In the design team, our work is about creating imaginative places that foster natural interactions between neighbours.

Our approach doesn’t follow a ‘cookie cutter’ style. No two PegasusLife developments are the same. Our approach to selling is based very much on our core value of transparency. Many of our customers are moving from more traditional freehold family homes and won’t have lived in modern apartments set within communal developments before. There are significant advantages to this way of living; however, it is different. We see it as our responsibility to make sure not only that we’ve communicated what it’s about but also that our audience has understood it.

One of the major hallmarks of our approach is the way we’ve considered property management – which we run on behalf of our residents on a not-for-profit basis. Our starting point in everything we do is the people who choose to live in our developments. What will they want to do here? What type and style of service is appropriate? What kind of living environment do we need to create to generate the right atmosphere and give people the experience they’re looking for? Wildernesse House is a large estate with a Grade II listed building and additional outbuildings. Its restoration gives it specific requirements for maintenance, which we'll make sure are met. This ensures that your investment is secure and you can enjoy living in an environment that improves rather than deteriorates with age. From looking after the centuries-old timber panelling in the main house to maintaining the tennis court, the approach is tailor-made and detail-oriented.

The management company for Wildernesse House is run on a strict not-for-profit basis. This ensures that work is carried out solely for the purposes of caring for the building and maintaining the quality of the offer and experience of living here for the residents.

A unique approach to property management

On purchasing a property on the Wildernesse estate, residents automatically become shareholders of the management company, together with PegasusLife, giving you voting rights and a say in how the company is managed and run.

When it comes to the operation of the management company, we believe passionately that true transparency is fundamental to maintaining residents' peace of mind and the management company’s integrity. For this reason, we’ve invested in creating our own digital tool for property management – an online members-only system, which is designed to provide you with a detailed understanding of how your money is spent on servicing Wildernesse House and to enable you to keep track of expenditure on, and investment in, the building over time.
