A Taste of the Greek Isles:The Art, Wine & Cuisine of Sifnos, Delos & Serifos
May 10th – May 16th, 2018
Sifnos
Our amazing Villa is on the majestic island of Sifnos, on a hilltop overlooking the Aegean Sea.
The Villa is comprised of three separate, independent apartments, all with their own
entrance, living room and kitchen. Each apartment also has its own terrace with spectacular views
of the sea.
There are 6 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There are 3 bedrooms with Queen-sized beds and
3 bedrooms with 2 twin beds, comfortably sleeping 12 guests. Washer, Dryer and Wireless Internet are
available during our stay.
Thursday: Guests will meet
at the port of Piraeus in
Athens, where we will take a
breathtaking ferry ride
across the Aegean to the
majestic island of Sifnos. We’ll
check into our spectacular
Villa and then perhaps explore
the nearby village of
Kamares, featuring one of the
best beaches in all of Greece.
There, we’ll have lunch at Captain
Andrea’s Fish Taverna
(optional). Afterwards, we’ll
head back to the Villa for a siesta
and reconvene later that night on
our gorgeous terrace for
homemade meze paired with
local wines and cheeses,
prepared for us by our hosts/chefs
Chris and Lakis (included).
Friday: We’ll start the day
by visiting Kastro, one of
the most well-preserved
medieval towns in the
Cyclades. The town is rich
in antiquities, with an
excellent Archaeological
Museum. We’ll visit the
hilltop church of Ayios
Andreas, which sits above
Then we’ll explore the
island’s capital,
Apollonia. We’ll stop by
the Folklore Museum
and then head back to the
Villa for a siesta before a
gourmet dinner at the
celebrated fish & wine
bar, Omega3 in Platis
Gialos (optional).
the excavations of an ancient acropolis from a Mycenaean fortified town.
We’ll have many options for lunch, including Captain Sifakis Fish Taverna,
featuring fresh seafood caught that day from their fishing boat (optional).
Delos
Saturday: We will journey
across the Aegean
in a private
speedboat to the
sacred island of
Delos, one of the
world’s most
important
archaeological
sites. As the
mythological birth-
place of Apollo, the god of poetry and light, and his twin sister Artemis,
goddess of the moon and the hunt, Delos was the most sacred place of
worship in ancient Greece. Currently uninhabited, but with signs of
civilization dating as far back as 2500 BCE, we will see firsthand many
famous monuments, including The Sanctuary of Apollo, The Terrace
of the Lions, The House of the Dolphins, The Sanctuary of Dionysus,
The Temple of Isis, The
Temple of Hera, The
House of Hermes and The
House of Cleopatra. In
addition to the multitude of
ancient dwellings,
sanctuaries, amphitheaters,
spectacular views and
cisterns there is also a
museum with many of the
most important statues and other
archaeological finds in all
of Greece. Afterwards, we’ll return
to the Villa to reflect upon the day’s
impressive monuments and enjoy
more of the island’s amazing
cuisine. That night, we’ll dine at
one of the island’s best
restaurants, Absinthe (optional), remembering, of course, to pour a
libation to Dionysus!
Sunday: We’ll visit
Platis Gialos, home
to one of the longest
beaches of the
Cyclades and an
excellent place for
swimming or relax-
ing. The town is
known for its great
shops featuring
traditional Greek artisans, ceramics galleries, open pottery workshops and jewelers doing
innovative work. We’ll have lunch on the beach at the Cyclades Restaurant,
where celebrated chef Nikos Venakis uses purely local ingredients to make
traditional recipes such as revithia (a delicious
chickpea stew), revithokefthedes (a Sifniot
falafel), and Greek salads made with fresh
mizithra and capers (optional). After lunch,
we’ll take a leisurely walk through the olive
groves and intoxicating oregano and thyme
patches,
passing by
dovecotes
and wind-
mills on our
way to
Panagia
Chrissopigi, a double-vaulted church on a
tiny islet. After a beautiful day in Platis
Gialos, we will saunter back to the Villa and
spend a relaxing evening enjoying a
traditional 4-course Greek feast prepared
by local chefs, as well as a wine tasting of
local Greek wines (included).
Serifos
Monday: Today we will take a short boat ride to the nearby island of
Serifos. Considered one of the most enchanting and unpretentious of the
Cycladic islands, Serifos is a charming island with quaint villages, peaceful
harbors and beautiful natural landscapes. The island is noted for its
mythological connection to both Perseus and Odysseus. We’ll have a
chance to visit The White Tower, a Hellenistic marble watchtower, as well as
The Throne of the Cyclops, a strange megalithic structure overlooking the
Aegean. At the Chora, a picturesque settlement offering spectacular views,
we can visit the ruins of a
15th Century Venetian
Castle. From there, we’ll
head back to Sifnos for
dinner at Drimoni, known
for their extensive Greek
wine list (optional). Then
we’ll take in some live music
at Aloni, one the island’s
celebrated rembetiko bars.
Tuesday: After a leisurely
morning in the Villa,
guests will have the option
of taking a sailboat tour
around Sifnos with meze
and a wine tasting
(optional), or spending
their afternoon relaxing
in the Villa. Later that
Wednesday: Guests will bid their fond farewells and catch the early high
speed ferry back to Athens. From there, guests will either part ways or join
us for our 4 day tour of Sardinia, followed by our 8 day tour of Sicily!
