The North County Photographic Society (NCPS) was founded in 1983 in Del Mar, California, for the purpose of promoting the enjoyment and appreciation of all types of photography. The Society’s goal is to provide a casual forum in which photographers can enhance their photographic skills and interest through cooperation and sharing with others. This and more information can be found on our website nc-photo.org. Take a look around. Every once in a while, I need a reminder of the insightful people who founded NCPS and the devoted members who now make up this organization. But I’ve always wondered, why are we called a photographic society and not a camera club? Well, I wasn’t a member in the beginning so I did a little searching to understand the difference. The definition of a society is a grouping of individuals, which is characterized by common interest. Like NCPS, an organized group of people associated together for photography. I like to believe that we are not just another camera club, but a dedicated, enthusiastic and complex membership holding to a high standard of photography. We might all be at different levels in our craft and we might all have a different reason for the appeal, but individual members show a commitment to themselves and strive for excellence. That is what being a part of NCPS is all about! Here’s to a wonderful member show this year. See you at the reception! Proudly representing NCPS, Sandy

September Member Share‘Sky’by Ted WhirledgePoint your lens up to the sky. Day or night. Bright and pretty or dark and scary. Clouds, sunrise or sunset, moon, planes, copters, smoke, streaks, stars, aurora, comets, or UFOs. Have fun!

“I taught up in Maine a couple of times and wasn’t able to take a single picture. All that blue sky! Ugh. Sparkling clear air, just terrible. I couldn’t do it.” ~ Sally Mann

The more you shoot, the more comfortable you get. Show us your results! Upload your image or two to Member Share. Please submit up to 2 images. Click here for Member Share submission guidelines. Click here for the Member Share Uploader.

Photo Shoot Wrap-UpSan Diego Skyline at Nightby Dan Nougier

Once again the view from Centennial Park did not

disappoint. Right on schedule a few clouds moved

in just prior to sunset which made the sky a lot

more interesting. We even got to watch the near

full moon rise, over the Coronado Bridge. Temper-

ature was perfect, plus we were able to listen to

the concert across the bay from the Embarcadero

Marina. Overall it was the ideal night photo experi-

ence.

Waiting for a sunset over the San Diego city skyline NCPS photographers Jim Dease, David Reichel, Guy Covert, and Dennis Smith wait for the perfect moment when lighting con-ditions and composition come together for a great capture. In this case, even the clouds seem to cooperate with the overall composition.

NEW SPONSORS, PLUS AN UPGRADE!by Jack Jacobs

Two more new Silver sponsors have come on board in time for the 2018-2019 Member’s Exhibition, and one long-time sponsor has upgraded to Gold level status. Contact information has been added to the web-site and also appears in this issue of the Lens Paper. Be sure to check out their websites to see how each can benefit your photographic work.

NORTH COAST PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES – (www.northcoastphoto.com) – A full service pho-to and custom printing lab conveniently located in Carlsbad. This company is well known to club members and was a sponsor in the past. I can personally vouch for their excellent printing and finishing work, as well as friendly customer service. For those club members still working in film this lab offers color and black and white archival film developing and printing. Their wide range of available services is well worth checking out, and their modern facility contains the latest processing technology.

SCOTT DAVENPORT PHOTOGRAPHY – (www.scottdavenportphoto.com) – Members who attended the April meeting were treated to an outstanding presentation on seascape photography by Scott Daven-port. We now welcome this enthusi-astic and talented photographer as a Silver sponsor. Scott is a landscape photographer, workshop instructor, podcaster, and author. His consum-ing photographic passion, however, is in teaching others the art and joy of photography. If you check his website you will see dozens of tutorial videos on a variety of subjects, many of which are free. Scott is good natured and says he is secretly shy, but you wouldn’t know it from his obvious enthusiasm for his craft.

KURT’S CAMERA REPAIR, INC. - (www.kurtscamerarepair.com) – Long-time sponsor Kurt’s is well known to members as the go-to place for factory authorized service on most major camera brands. Mike Parcell and his talented crew will now move up to Gold spon-sor status, and we sincerely thank them for their ongoing support of our club. This company has been in business in San Diego since 1975 and all repairs are performed on site by their factory trained technicians. Over 40 years of serving the photographic community has earned Kurt’s Camera Repair the reputation for honest, friendly, and reliable service.

The North County Photographic Society is indeed fortunate to have such a dynamic group of sponsors, and we encourage members to keep them in mind when seeking products or services.
