William Archie Tanner, II was born on Tuesday, February 27, 1962 at South Hoover Hospital to the parents of the Late William Archie Tanner, Sr., and Mary Alice Tanner. William was the first grandson of the Late Eddie and Mattie Hammond who spoiled him to pieces. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.
Growing up, he attended 66th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, in which his current pas-tor, Supt. Robert Cole was his third grade teacher. He also attended Mary McLeod Bethune Junior High School and later graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1981. In 1986, William attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Education from Cal-ifornia State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California.
William loved his family and friends, he loved to exercise, and loved to eat comfort food. He was an avid basketball and tennis player who was a diehard Lakers, Dr. J, Muhammad Ali and Serena Williams fan. He was a selfless person who had a BIG heart for people with an amazing “rain man” memory.
William began his professional career at McDonnell Douglas as an electrician. Later, he joined the Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation in Torrance, California. William also worked for the State Unemployment Department at various locations. He continued his professional career as a Li-censed Program Analyst for the State of California for 19 ½ years. William always thought of his supervisor, Benita Yates and his co-workers as family.
William started his spiritual journey with Tabernacle Church of God In Christ followed by Unity Baptist Church and later Crusader’s Temple Church of God in Christ (Pastor, Supt. Robert Cole), in which he remained faithful until his death. William was a devoted servant who loved God, his Pastors/Elders and his church families. In regards to volunteer work, William served at the YMCA, worked as a Summer School Youth Counselor, was a Board Member for “His Sheltering Arms” for Substance Abused Women and Children in addition to being a member of the Christian Education Department at Crusader’s Temple COGIC.
On December 11, 2014, the Lord decided to call His valiant soldier home. William leaves fond memories that will be cherished by his Loving Mother, Mary A. Tanner, his father William A. Tanner, Sr., who preceded him in death, his Aunt Dorothy J. Belton, his Uncle Lewis Belton who preceded him in death. His Cousins, Eddie Hammond (Angie), Nellie Hammond, best friend Sher-rod Belton, Sonya Belton, Sybil Belton-Braggs (Fred), his best friends Angelo Dale Robinson and Christopher Plummer, his wonderful Great-Aunties, Lula Saffold-Morgan and Alfreda Campbell, along with a host of numerous loving cousins, co-workers, classmates (Pathfinder for Life aka P4L), Facebook/email supporters, church family and friends.
