Retiring Joe Meadows will be retiring soon as the WUMC Business Administrator. His last official day of work will be January 30. However, he plans to come in from time to time to continue working on the transition with Nethea Calloway, our current Bookkeeper, who will be taking over Joe’s job. Traditionally, members have wanted to express their

appreciation to a valued staff member with a contribution to a love gift. Joe has given us more than seven years of service at WUMC.

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee asks that donations for the love offering be sent to the church office, addressed to the attention of Nethea Calloway, by February 4.

Youth Group Sunday Morning: Join us this morning in the Youth

Jeremiah Project 2018: Middle School mission trip will be in Romney, WV, July 1– 7. Spaces available for 1 adult female to lead the trip alongside Drew Alexander (Andy is on JP staff again this year so will be on site all week, too) and 5 Middle School students. Interested? Scholarships are available; costs for adult’s are covered.

Spring Retreats: There are two Spring youth retreats coming up: March 9-11 with the York River District for Middle and High school students and March 16-18 for Middle School students only with Jeremiah Project, their Journey weekend. February 24: In July, 14 teenagers and 4 adults are traveling to England as part of a youth exchange program with Hexham Trinity Methodist Church. Join us February 24, 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall for a British 3-course banquet, English themed entertainment and a time for our youth to share about this upcoming mission trip. Tickets for the banquet are still available; find us at the Crossroads Table.

Silver Saints in February The next Silver Saints luncheon will be at noon on Wednesday, February 14 in the Fellowship Hall. Baseball as a Road to God Join us for a four-week conversation as we explore Baseball as a Road to God. Prayer, faith, doubt, conversion, sacrifice, miracles, blessings, curses, saints and sinners are just as much a part of baseball as hits, runs and errors. Messy Church in February

Our next Messy Church is Tuesday, February 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Our theme is “True Family,” based on the idea of families. Jesus asked the question, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Hmmm – is that really a hard question to answer? Come to Messy Church as we look at what makes a family! We will also do some celebrating around Valentines’ Day as well as serve pancakes for dinner to observe Shrove Tuesday. Wow – we will be busy – and messy with activities, games and Celebration Time. Ash Wednesday Services Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a period of spiritual discipline, fasting and prayer, which leads to Easter. On Wednesday, February 14, you are invited to worship at noon or 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The service will include the imposition of ashes, a reminder of our mortality and belonging to God, and communion. All are welcome.

Senior Pastor’s Midweek Bible Study for Lent and Sermon Series

During the six weeks of Lent, we will study What Makes a Hero? The Death-Defying Ministry of Jesus, by Matt Rawle. In our study we will look at how we can draw important truths from our encounters with heroes—both real-life and fictional—and understand how Jesus redefines the entire concept of hero through his life, ministry, and death. Our Bible study will be held on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) and repeated on Thursday (10:30 a.m.), beginning February 21/22. We will examine the following themes: 1. Good, Evil, and God 2. Right, Wrong, and Holy 3. Us, Them, and the Body of Christ

4. Have, Have-Not, and the Kingdom of God 5. Old, New, and Covenant 6. Life, Death, and Resurrection

Pastor Bill and Pastor Meghan will preach a sermon series following the same topics beginning Sunday, February 18 and concluding with Easter on Sunday, April 1.

Our Dinner and Large Group this Sunday is focused on what connects us; dinner at 5:00 p.m. Our small group study, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. Colony Room, Sadler Center. We are a Stephen Ministry Church and provide trained, strictly confidential lay pastoral care for our congregation and community. Call one of the Pastors for information on how you can be

connected to one of our Stephen Ministers. A Stephen Minister is available in the Library after each service for anyone who needs
