THE LAKE-GEAUGA LEAGUE OF LIBRARIES

OFF THE PAGE AUTHOR SERIES WITH STEPHEN MARKLEY Debut novelist Stephen Markley visits Lakeland Community College to discuss his new book

Ohio. This program is part of the Lake-Geauga League of Libraries Off the Page Series.

* Vulture * Time * New York Post * “The debut of a major talent; a lyrical and emotional novel set in an archetypal small town in

northeastern Ohio—a region ravaged by the Great Recession, an opioid crisis, and the wars in Iraq

and Afghanistan—depicting one feverish, fateful summer night in 2013 when four former classmates

converge on their hometown, each with a mission, all haunted by the ghosts of their shared histories.”

Wednesday, September 12, 6:30-8:30 pm

Lakeland Community College, 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland

The Lake-Geauga League of Libraries is a group of ten public libraries in Lake and Geauga county that have

partnered to promote the arts and education in the region.

The League includes: Burton, Fairport Harbor, Geauga County, Kirtland, Madison, Mentor, Morley, Perry, Wickliffe and Willoughby-Eastlake Public Libraries.

FURNISHING ETERNITY BOOK DISCUSSION Join other community readers as we discuss the new nonfiction book, Furnishing Eternity: A

Father, a Son, a Coffin, and a Measure of Life by David Giffels. "From the acclaimed author of

The Hard Way on Purpose, a vibrant, heartfelt memoir about confronting mortality, surviving

loss, finding resilience in one’s Midwest roots and seeking a father’s wisdom through an unusual

woodworking project - constructing his own coffin." The author will be appearing on Oct. 20 at a

reading and book signing event at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village.

Tuesday, September 25, 7:00-8:00 pm, Willowick Library

MEET AUTHOR DAVID GIFFELS Author and University of Akron associate professor David Giffels will speak and sign copies of

his nonfiction book, Furnishing Eternity: A Father, a Son, a Coffin, and a Measure of

Life. Furnishing Eternity is the story of a family searching for hope in its roots and the

unexpected truths revealed in the process of creating and constructing the author's own coffin.

Heartfelt, unvarnished and piercing with insight, this powerful memoir is Giffels’s most intimate

exploration yet of the values and traditions that illuminate the Midwest.

Copies of his book will be available for purchase.

Saturday, October 20, 1:00-2:00 pm, Osborne Community Plaza Osborne Community Plaza at Breckenridge Village is located at 36851 Ridge Road, Willoughby, Ohio 44094 . For

parking, enter the Ohio Living Breckenridge Village campus using the RT. 84 entrance and follow the signs.

Co-sponsored by Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library and Ohio Living Breckenridge Village.
