Wimbledon Champions HOA UPDATE

I want to thank everyone who voted in the first resident elected board. The 5 elected members are very excited and are looking forward to improving “our” community.

The first change has been to the meetings every other month. We will start at 6:00 instead of 5:00, hopefully enabling more residents the opportunity to attend. Currently the meetings will be held at Chaparral Mgt. Co., but if we get enough residents coming we can always move to the clubhouse. The next meeting will be March 11th, at 6:00.

Another item addressed immediately was the architectural approval cost and length of time for approval. We now have 3 neighborhood residents who will make the new committee. The cost has been dramatically reduced from 75.00 to a 3 tier expense starting at 0.00 and going to 50.00. Look for the process to be quick and efficient.

Typically the HOA does 1 major capital improvement a year. This year we are getting bids for 3.

Once again thank you for your support. Let’s make Wimbledon Champions a great community together. Call me anytime with questions, suggestions, or concerns, I WILL call you back.

WC Fire Ant Treatment Weekend April 6 & 7

Residents of WC: please treat for fire ants on April 6 and 7, or as close to that weekend as possible. Treat your whole yard and flower beds. Our residents on Agassi Ace Ct. did this successfully last year. They used “Over ‘n Out Fire Ant Killer Granules” on one weekend and removed ants for many months. The strategy is to treat the whole neighborhood at once so the ants do not move into the next yard. Try to participate in this optional idea so the ants do not move toward you!

YARD OF THE MONTH

MARCH 2013Congratulations to Don and Pat Townzen at

6222 Agassi Ace CtThe Townzens have lived in the Garden area of Wimbledon

Champions for many years and enjoy keeping a lovely yard. On either side of the walk at the entrance are blooming Petunias and Alyssum. Large pots across the drive are filled with Vinca and a large Hibiscus. A large Crepe Myrtle gives height to the bed near the house. A hedge of Indian Hawthorn with blue berries is planted next to the house and several holly bushes full of red berries are planted under the windows. Yaupon, a Butterfly Iris, and a Natal Plum are also planted closer to the walkway around the bed. The big surprise is the 60 plus Amaryllis scattered throughout the beds which bloom with large red and white blooms each spring! In the yard are a Red Oak tree and a Pear tree, which begin budding out in March. We thank the Townzens for keeping a lovely yard through the winter. They will receive a $50 gift certificate from Plants for All Seasons and have their address as YOM highlighted on the Wimbledon Champions entrance marquee.

Black Pepper and Gruyere Cheese

PopoversTry these incredibly “gourmet” tast-ing rolls with your Easter dinner!

INGREDIENTS:2 cups whole milk4 large eggs1½ teaspoons salt½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (I would add more)2 cups all-purpose flour2 ounces Gruyère cheese, cut into 16 small cubes, plus freshly grated cheese for garnish

DIRECTIONS:Preheat the oven to 375˚ and position a rack in the bottom

third. Place 2 muffin pans (or enough to make 16 popovers) in the oven to warm. In a small saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat until it is hot (about 125˚) but not boiling. Remove from the heat. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with the salt and black pepper until smooth. Slowly whisk in the warm milk. Add the flour and whisk until the batter is just combined. (It may be slightly lumpy.)

Remove the muffin pans from the oven. Spray the pans generously with nonstick cooking spray. Pour about ⅓ cup of the batter into each of 16 muffin cups. Set a cube of the cheese on top of the batter in each cup. Bake the popovers until puffed and deep golden brown, about 40 minutes (do not open the door or they may collapse). Remove the popovers from the pans, sprinkle with the grated Gruyère and serve immediately.

Bon Appetit! If you have a favorite recipe you would like to share with

your WC neighbors please call Kelli at 281-374-6246 or email to [email protected]

The Cypress Creek Greenway Project which has excited the imagination of hundreds of folks in northwest Houston is now increasingly drawing attention of elected officials and regional planners / decision makers. The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce announced at its recent Economic Development Initiative meeting that the Cypress Creek community has been awarded a grant to explore methods of funding and assisting in implementation of this undertaking - -- - a preservation mission goal fostered by the Cypress Creek Flood Control Coalition to create a “necklace” of parks and trails across our community.

“The Cypress Creek Greenway is a recreational/transportation trail and open space corridor along Cypress Creek,” explains Steve Spillette of CDS | Spillette Alliance, a consultant contracted to manage the study plan. The funds originate with a grant to the Houston Galveston Area Council from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a Sustainability Plan for the Houston region.

WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSThe Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC ) Board

awarded contracts to local CDS | Spillette Alliance and Marsh Darcy Partners (MDP) to prepare a study for the Houston Parks Board (HPB) to move a major section of the Cypress Creek Greenway project plan to implementation as quickly as possible. The Houston Parks Board, a local non-profit, is the local client for this case study to identify implementation and funding approaches for portions of the Bayou Greenways Initiative 1 that are located outside the city limits. Because Cypress Creek stands out as a corridor without a public entity or funding source, it has been given this opportunity. CDS/Spillette Alliance has been contracted to carry out the work.

Building upon work that has already been done by the Cypress Creek Flood Control Coalition, the contractors have begun an extensive outreach and dialogue undertaking to meet and work with stakeholders throughout the community subdivisions in order to foster, identify and formulate their ideas and desires. These Stakeholder group meetings focusing on this important community amenity are now being scheduled and will soon be followed by public meetings to be held during February and March in the Cypress Creek community area. The study will be essentially completed by April 2013.

The Chamber noted in their announcement, “this is tremendous news for furthering the economic growth and development of the Cypress Creek Communities.”
