High Breaking Capacity RangeProtective CoordinationThe primary purpose of a circuit protection system is to prevent damage to series connected equipment and to minimize the area and duration of power loss. The first consideration is whether an air circuit breaker or molded case circuit breaker is most suitable. The next is the type of system to be used. The two major types are : Discrimination and cascading.
Type of protective coordination1. DiscriminationObject : Continuity of service
2. Cascading
Object : Economical use of MCCBs
Discrimination, also called selectivity, is the coordination of automatic protection devices in such a manner that a fault appearing at a given point in a network is cleared by the protection device installed immediately upstream of the fault, and by that device alone.
Cascading is the use of the current limiting capacity if circuit breakers at a given point to permit installation of lower-rated and therefore lower-cost circuit breakers branch. The main circuit breakers acts as a barrier against short-circuit currents. In this way, branch circuit breakers with lower breaking capacities than the prospective short-circuit (at their point of installation) operate under their normal breaking conditions. Since the current is limited throughout the circuit controlled by the limiting circuit breaker, cascading applies to all switchgear branch.

Electrical characteristics (Consumption)
This trip coil trips the circuit breaker when the control voltage exceeds from 0.85 times to 1.1times the rated voltage at AC and from 0.75 times to 1.25 times the rated voltage at DC.
Undervoltage trip (UVT)This trip coil trips the circuit breaker when the control voltage drops below the tripping threshold.- Tripping threshold between 0.2 and 0.7 times the rated voltage.- The circuit-breaker closing is possible only if the voltage exceeds 0.85 times the rated voltage (AC/DC)
